I don't believe she did fear death. I don't know exactly from where, but as this channel has quoted a few times at this point, she didn't originally haunt the bathroom, she originally came back to punish Olive Hornby, which she did until the ministry ordered her back to her place of death (likely at least part of the reason she's usually in that bathroom instead of anywhere else in the castle), at which point it was far too late for her to properly die.

@@DarkBanks3He IS. Despite your irrational bias he is canonically one of the most powerful wizards to ever live. He is stated to be stronger than Grindelwald. Dumbledore said that Tom Riddle was propably the most brilliant student to ever step in Hogwarts Dumbledore said that Voldemorts had powers he will never have. Their fight in the novel was actually not one sided like people remember,it was mostly inconclusive. In the novel Dumbledore wasnt concerned with protecting Harry as he had statues do that. Voldemort in the movie outright overloaded Dumbledores defences causing him to fall down,when he screamed NYAAAAAAAAAAH for some reason (movies are secondary canon). Voldemort in the novels fought Minerva and 2 other wizards on par with her at the SAME TIME.(Yes he is 3x Prime Snapes power) Him dying to Harry is simply his OWN curse rebounding at him due to the primordial power of love. Voldemorts destructive potency is above EVERYONE, Dumbledore included. Even if Dumbledore is overall "greater". Dumbledore said that if Voldemort returned at full power then not even HIS own protective charms and spells would prove to be invincible. In the novel Fawkes had to swallow an Avada Kedavra cause it would have hit and killed Dumbledore in the duel. Contrary to popular belief,wizard do NOT get weaker with age. Thats not how magic works. If anything their wisdom makes them better. You just don't like Voldemort. You remind of the people downplaying Firelord Ozai for the same reason,even though he was canonically the strongest firebender shown in the show(though i believe his children would later on surpass him once they grew older) If you are talking about YOUNG Riddle then yes he wouldn't compare to the most powerful wizards but taking into account his age he would still be that great relatively. Voldemorts innate power was greater than everyone but his closed minded attitude towards anything than the dark arts comes to bite him Dumbledore himself said that Voldemorts knowledge of magic was likely beyond ANY wizard and he is stated to have pushed dark magic beyond anything before him. He was comparable,albeit weaker than Elder Wand Dumbledore and he is repeatedly indicated and outright heavily implied by Dumbledore to be MORE powerful than him if not for the Elder Wand

I agree that Voldy considers his story and lineage to be extremely important, but like you said, the diary is just too mundane an object. It seems likely to me that he didn't plan to make it a horcrux, but once he did, he added extra enchantments to it to store his legacy because he needed it to be important and special. Rather than originally choosing an object which was already noteworthy, he had to make do with making it special himself (and that's why it's much more magical and clever than his other horcruxes imo).

Something just crossed my mind. Why would Tom Riddle keep going back to the orphanage? It seems that in the interest of secrecy that fostering an orphan with a wizard family would be safer. Molly practically did that for Harry and probably would have if Dumbledore didn't he insist he spend some time each year with the Dursleys. Riddle apparently had friends, or at least people who considered him a friend. He was a top student, like Dumbledore level good. Seems like the sort of kid a Slytherin family would be willing to take in, similar to how Slughorn "collects" talented and/or well connected students.
@JessicaClark-lq4gw
@JessicaClark-lq4gw 24 дня назад
Riddle didnt have friends. He had servants. He probably went back to the orphanage because there he was top dog. He was feared by the staff and other children. He could do as he wished and no one told him what to do. If he was to be fostered by a wizarding family the adults would have authority over him, they would tell him what to do, he wouldnt be able to use magic and he would have to keep the mask of civility he used when at school up over the summer. When he was at the orphanage they already knew what kind of person he truly was. They were terrified of him by the time he was 11. He couldnt use magic either way but the orphanage allowed some freedom. To his mind if he was able to stay at school over the summer he would be able to explore unrestricted learn more magic, practice magic and not have much interaction with whichever teacher(s) remained as well.

@UnfazedPhoenix the question in the comment is why didnt he have anywhere else to go. Why he didnt go stay at a "friends" house. My thought is he didnt go to another wizarding home because he didnt ask. Professor Dippet says in the diary memory that arrangements could be made for Riddle to stay at Hogwarts in other circumstances but due to the attacks he couldnt. Riddle hadnt asked before that. Edit to add: essentially if he had asked one of the budding death eaters if he could go to their homes they would have done it. Their parents would allow it because who wouldnt be taken in by the poor orphan boy who has to go back to a muggle orphanage? He didnt ask and my 1st comment explains why.

It is the recording of his time at Hogwarts, and links him to “the greatest” of the four founders, allowing him to disassociate from his muggle side. The Diary was created AFTER Rubeus Hagrid was arrested. This is why it shows Harry the memory of Tom acusing Hagrid. The Tom from the diary also describes the aftermath of Hagrid's arrest (Dumbledore knowing it was him and keeping him under constant vigilance). When Dumbledore says that Voldemort chose the Diary because it proved his heritage, he probably meant the Diary contained Tom's research on his heritage (ultimately showing he is a descendant of Salazar Slytherin), and his exploration and discoveries about the mysteries of the Chamber of Secrets, and the things Mofin Gaunt told him. I agree with most of this, but think it leads more to the argument that the diary was first. Myrtle's death becomes significant if it's Voldemort's first kill. The diary being muggle made enraged him to want far more significant items in the future
@pathfinderGM
@pathfinderGM 24 дня назад
My theory is that making a horcrux is more than just murder. There is other steps and some intent involved. Voldamort must have wrote the steps and secrets, as well as his intents, into his diary before hand. Treating the diary as part of himself at that time; his secrets private thoughts. So when myrtle died by accident, there was enough raw negative emotions poured into the diary that the DIARY ITSELF completed the steps and became a horcrux. As for why the diary was important, I think it was voldamorts first attempt making an enchanted artifact. Make it similar to the map that distorts the words and hides what is actually written unless you do something specific. I think voldamort would have pushed it to become something like a mirror for his thoughts. He would explain his thoughts and the diary would verify and encourage his own thoughts. Then once it became a horcrux all he had to do is tweak the enchantments on it.

The diary was definitely created intentionally. It was created not only to house Voldemort’s soul but also to do exactly what it did open the Chamber of Secrets. Everything about it serves to further the mission. It’s a plain muggle book in order to not arouse suspicion but the name and date are there to make whomever holds it curious, it being impervious to most liquid damage also furthers that cause. Once someone figures that out they’ll try to write in it if their curiosity hasn’t made them already try it and once they start that’s when the trap is sprung and the book sinks its teeth into the unwitting victim. Bonus points if they pour enough of themselves into the book that Tom can start manifesting.

What if Aang didn't run away and died during that attack and the new avatar became one of the other characters? I think the most interesting would be Zuko and Sokka. What if Prim had to do her Hunger Games and became the Mockingjay? The only way I see that happening is if Katniss gets caught hunting a year or two before the first book and either gets killed or arrested and sent to the Capital to become an avox, all this to say it would not only force Prim to do her Hunger Game but she would also have to take Katniss's place and learn to hunt and some survival skills, I'm not saying she'd be as good as Katniss but she'd have something.

Or he'd try to force her back and when he went to use the killing curse, she'd step in front of it, killing Lily instead. And that would also lead to 2 outcomes of either 1. @justicefool3942
@justicefool3942 24 дня назад
It was probably a combination of things. He would have had to drink that potion that causes immense suffering to get access to the locket and by the time Kreacher had arrived, he was being dragged into the lake by the Inferi. He likely wouldn't have been thinking straight, so all he could do was instruct Kreacher to do what he initially set out to do, which was destroy the locket. Kreacher was also distressed as well being in the cave, as he was in there when Voldemort initially put the locket in the cave and he had to drink the same potion to test it out and Voldemort left him in there to die (this is also how Regulus knew of the cave in the first place). Kreacher would be understandably distressed to see his master dying in a cave he himself almost died in and likely wasn't thinking straight as well, so all he could do was follow his master's orders. Does it particularly say it was the basilisk that killed her? Not looking at the book but from your quote, she opened the door and died. Maybe later it mentions eyes, but what if Riddle just killed her when she opened the door to not get discovered. Then he’s still responsible for killing her to create the horcrux. To even further the completely unfounded theory, what if the process of creating a horcrux is like a grenade. You have to prime the body to create a horcrux and once you kill, you pull the pin. You are put into a state of immense pain until you put the part of the soul into a vessel. This would be why he hastily made the diary a horcrux because he had to do something quickly. It would also explain why Harry became a horcrux. As soon as Voldemort killed James, he started the process. As per a previous theory, Voldemort had gotten the sword of Gryffindor and was ready to make it a horcrux, but when he fell from the spell backfire, he was not able to control what vessel became the horcrux. At that point, the sword disappeared to not return until Chamber of Secrets.

She got petrified but Tom thought he was caught and couldn't risk her coming out of petrification, so while she was petrified from the reflection Tom saw the best opportunity to not only get rid of the only witness, but to create another horcrux like he had just started to experiment with the prior summer. Because the only time the basilisk ever attacked was at the command of Tom Riddle and Tom definitely didn't say anything to tell the snake to attack in either movie or book. And it was an accidental petrification much like most of the ones in Harry's time. But again Tom being Tom saw how to opportune on a mishap.

So I'm assuming voldamort didn't tell lucius to give the diary to someone. Unless it was the diary voldamort that told him too. And lucius didn't want to tell voldamort he got it destroyed. C. It's meant to be in someone's hand, but isn't it supposed to end up in the chamber of secrets. Pretty safe location maybe. D. Maybe he tried to add to make better the ritual to make a horcrux. Maybe he got interrupted because it wasn't planned out like the others. So it was incomplete, not worth hidding, and saw a different opportunity for it.

I still fully believe that the Diary was (Riddle)Voldemort's first Horcrux, and it was from Myrtle's death at the eyes of the Basilisk. He had by then(being a Prefect allowed to roam after hours) had discovered the magic in the Restricted Section and attempted to kill multiple times.. the snake, failing to do more than incidentally petrify the victims was almost superficial because Riddle may have cast a killing curse or the snake may have been the cause of death.. either way Myrtle surprised them and Riddle capitalized on it with his first Horcrux. THEN he'd have turned subsequent kills into the rest. As the only one that stands as an outlier Horcrux AND an outlier death I think it must have been the first. Then, the Ring.

I’m not sure this theory holds up. Here are my points: - The Tom Riddle inside the diary has memories from _after_ the Horcrux was, according to your theory, created. Otherwise, Harry shouldn’t have been able to see the memory of Dippet and of confronting Hagrid. - The Horcrux needs to be created after a murder that ripped your soul. I’m not sure Myrtle more or less stumbling across the Basilisk qualifies. - I always thought you’d somehow have to prepare for capturing the soul you just ripped. Alternative theory: - Voldemort wanted his side of the story told. - In the summer holiday _after_ all this happened he bought the diary in London and prepared it with the memory. - Then he made it a Horcrux. Although while writing it out he might just as well have put the enchantments for the memory on top of the Horcrux later.

Ok so what about this one. What if Moaning Myrtle was never in the bathroom when Tom Riddle opened the chamber. Just a case of Olive Hornby not bullying her on that particular day.

There was a slight flaw in logic, but I don't think it changes anything important about your conclusion. You suggested that Tom must necessarily have created the Horcrux from Myrtle before learning that the school was to be shut down, but I don't think we have any information on the actual Horcrux-creation process, and as such we don't know how long a gap there can be between a person's death and the horcrux made from that death. In theory he could have decided to stop, then realized he wanted a way to start it back up after he left school, and came up with the diary plan from there. Heck, he may even have bought the diary specifically for this, I don't think we have an exact date on that purchase either. But regardless, it does seem like the diary was simply his least favorite, so I think the main conclusion stands, for the most part. Now what I'm wondering about is what his plan was, if the only confirmed kill of the basilisk was accidental. What did Tom need so many petrified students for? Was he trying to make the school unsafe specifically for muggleborns, and he miscalculated that they'd shut it down for everyone at once?

Couldn't it also be the case that Voldemort created the diary to only contain information about the chamber of secrets first and much later he turned it into a Horcrux. We dont know for sure that Voldemort used Myrtles Death for the hokrux, right? After All he later had no more use for the diary because he thought he would live forever and at that point it was a powerfull magical object that showed that he is the heir of slytherin.

Another question. If the basilisk wanted to kill, why didn't it just bite them once they were petrified. I think it could have penetrated it's own petrification magic.

Don't think it wanted to kill people, as Ben said. I think it was just hungry lol. It ate a LOT of rats.

The diary seems out of place because it was significant to Tom. Makes sense it was accidental.

The Diary probably contained his research on his heritage and his attempts at finding the Chamber of Secrets and understanding its Secrets.

Considering the poor kill percentage of the basilisk, as pointed out in this video. Are we 100% sure that it was the basilisk that killed Myrtle? From her testimony, it would make sense since she said she saw the eyes. However, as pointed out on ttgd, it does seem kinda strange that the lense of a camera would make the stare non-lethal, but Myrtle's glasses wouldn't? Plus also as has been pointed out, Voldemort 'killing' by command doesn't fit the usual requirement for creating a horcrux. So is it possible, and maybe even likely that Myrtle was petrified by the basilisk, and was then killed by Tom, but she wouldn't no the difference because she had been petrified?

I think it could be argued the complete opposite way here, the Diary could be incredibly important. The diary was a muggle item that contained his muggle name. He killed a mudblood with it, using the strongest tie to his wizarding blood as the murder weapon. The horcruxes he chose were important, 4 of them were created to represent the four founders of hogwarts, but of the ones that were planned two stand apart from that. The Ring and the Diary. I think it's more likely these represent Voldemort himself, and importantly, him trying to 'purge' the muggle from himself. The ring was a gaunt family heirloom, and he made his horcrux by killing his muggle father with his pure-blood uncle's wand. The diary on the other hand was the murder of a muggle-born witch he killed with "The Serpent of Slytherin" a creature that only the true heir of Slytherin was said to be able to control, and this portion of soul was burned into a muggle-made diary, inscribed with his muggle fathers surname. Of course he didn't care for this horcrux the same as the others, it was just as much a 'purge' of a portion of his soul he found distasteful. But it may not have been an accident, but rather a purposeful act voldemort saw as necessary to be done to cleanse himself.

6:28 correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the diary horcrux created before the ring? my understanding is that the horcruxes were destroyed in the order of their creation.

My line of thinking is that Tom unintentionally made his diary into a horcrux (much like how he unintentionally made Harry into a horcrux), than began to look in to the subject (question Slughorn) and then "experiment" with the ring with making multiple horcruxes.

i really never thought salizair was evil extreme anti muggle yes and the theory that the basilex was instructed not to kill might prove that in was a last line defense of the castle being attacked

I have no idea if he planned to make another horcrux, but I think that Voldemort was going to hedge his bets an planned to kill Neville as well as Harry. Call it the Herod approach, but I don't think that he wanted any threads left aside...

1)Is the Basilisk linked to Medusa? 2)How was Aragog able the speak in human speak? How did Aragog get so big? Could Aragog do magic? Did someone do magic experiments on spiders? Did one of the spiders that was part of the magic experiments become Aragog? How long do Giant talking spiders live? 10:37 Don’t know why this popped in my head. There goes Mrs. Lovett making her meat pies again. I had no idea Helena Bonham Carter was Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street R 2007 ‧ Musical/Horror ‧ 1h 56m

I wonder about creating a horcrux. In creating a horcrux, you split yourself into two parts of soul. So you conceal half of soul. Then you have half a soul. Does the next horcrux divide you into 2 quarters? The next 2 eighths? Does Voldemort end up being 1/128 of a soul?

Excuse me, 1/256 soul. 2^8
@somewhatstrange2097
@somewhatstrange2097 22 дня назад
Well, I think ideally you'd try to split of as small a piece as possible, if you get the same benefit from having a millionth of your soul as a half in a Horcrux, you should make one with a millionth. Of course there's no details about how much control someone has over the soul splitting process, though if the splitting is somewhat random you could keep killing people until it splits in such a way that would allow you to only put a tiny piece in a Horcrus.
