He says the window screens are Aluminum, from rolls either 36" or 48" tall, cut in half to make guards either 18" or 24" tall. The pieces appear to be roughly square in shape before rolling up, and each seems to wrap around the trunk at least 2x, with an outward fold/crimp at the top of the cylinder to keep the rough edges from chafing the bark and to also bind the guard together a bit more. Thanks for the great video, Ben!
Yes that's correct and the cut ragged edge down is good to deter voles from going underneath them - which we've never had actually happen surprisingly.
Thank you for sharing this. I have voles which are under ground so in my case, how deeply do you recommend placing the window screen on my fruit trees and Aspen tree which has very shallow roots? I think aluminum window screen is brilliant! Thank you.
Yes they do seem to - i often check on and tweak one's as they age but never had any girdling problems what so ever from the guards. Or even rub problems.
