Great review as usual Marek! Estate in around 50 000 EUR inc VAT would be a great contender for the family car of this decade.

Agreed! I'll try to get a hold of one in late autumn, because I want to see how it performs in lower temperatures. Maybe it will also have the larger battery.

I have a B8 Passat diesel which I for the most part like, and you can obviously tell the ID7 was designed to appeal to Passat people. But they can't swallow their touchscreen pride and put buttons and knobs back for the most important functions. It also sounds like there needs to be a big physical button somewhere that the driver can program to switch off the EU mandated safety features of their choice. When you know the stuff you were required to put in is going to be universally hated by customers, why make them jump through touchscreen hoops to turn it off? It's like stop-start in Stellantis vans which is in a touchscreen tab. And yes my Passat has a physical button for stop-start right next to the start button. It's been in muscle memory since the first week of ownership.

In the new Passat you can programme to have the stop-start shortcut in the top left corner. Unfortunately there's still no way to get ISA switch up in the top menu. You have to do 2 clicks. Better, than in the refreshed T-Cross, which has the old infotainment you know from your Passat, where ISA takes 4 clicks.

Beautiful, upmarket car. Not cheap, but why should it be? What counts is whether it competes in its market segment.

Love the lift back style! Wish it was coming to the states. My only concern is that it is less efficient than my model Y on the highway where drive up to 145 km/h.

You know EVs are susceptible to weather. We'd have to drive side by side to get a realistic comparison :)

@@MarekDrivesENG of course! But my Model Y in Colorado and in winter driving has a lifetime average of 265 kWh/mile or 16.5 kWh/100 kms. I find Teslas to be much more efficient in the real world. 🤷🏻‍♂️

After the scandal with the German dealer Gregory Brudny (the ID.6 import from China), the attitude of the VW group towards European customers, the overvaluation of their cars, became clear. I'm not even thinking of buying a new car from them...

In Norway it costs only slightly more than half of a Tesla S.

Good review. I'm thinking of the T7 California for my next vehicle. Is there any chance you can have a look at that?
@MarekDrivesENG
@MarekDrivesENG 3 месяца назад
I'd love to, but last I checked it will be launched in Poland in autumn, so realistic scenario is next summer. Also, from what I saw online from the launch event, I can already say it's more of the same, but this time on the new chassis, and with less focus on cooking anything more than a pot of coffee and some scrambled eggs. Single burner stove isn't ideal, when you want to have something fancier, than freeze-dried noodles for dinner.

Marek Mcgregor..... does have a ring to it! 🤣 I wish the Tourer came to Canada but I know that won't happen. I think this is a good alternative to buying a Model S if you are looking for a larger sedan.

Assuming this is really supposed to compete with TMS, because if I had to get an EV, I'd always go for TMY.

It would be a great car, with a good diesel engine on it. This way it's just another fire hazard that will be scraped by the ensurance company at the first small crash.

I don't understand why i need an electric opening boot (I can understand why I would want it, but not why I would need one). I dont get why I would want so many touch buttons on a car. And i certainly do noy get why i would want a touch/motion system to operate the sunroof. It is hard enough to use touch buttons on the dashboard while driving, imagine on the roof. Oh! Almost forgot, diesel Passat! Diesel Passat ALLLL THEEEEE WAYYYYYY

vW have NEVER made exciting cars. They design cars that do not look meh in 10 years time, so you can still sell them. Parts available in every corner of Europe, or a bit further...
@valtraone
@valtraone 3 месяца назад
VW used to make cars that you would look forward to driving. MK1 and MK2 Golf GTI's, Scirocco Storm, Polo G40 etc etc. Not only were they fun to drive, for a relatively modest outlay, but they looked good, and very often held very good residual values. I have owned a fair number of such cars, so I can speak with some subjectivity. I realise that we live in changed times, but VW could have taken account of the reasons so many used to buy their cars.
@takuan650
@takuan650 3 месяца назад
I like Your reviews but often not the cars that are on show. There is way too much useless expensive, electronic and distracting cr@p built into cars these days ( for my liking). People who really need 'lane keeping assist' are not fit for driving a motor vehicle. What's next? Scrotum massage? B.t.w. I am German but never liked VW's. They look like made for gas meter readers. And I don't like them either.
@MarekDrivesENG

Unfortunately this is a new model, and I would argue an important one (at least for VW). I wish I could only review cars, which I find interesting, but then I probably wouldn't make much money. New models are good for SEO. As for VW, I liked them until around 2020, when they lost their way. They probably lost it earlier, but now it was manifested by products, which were undercooked.
