Volkswagen Jetta 2019 and up | Radio Removal 

Thanks for the informative video Christian. I'm the owner of a new 2019 Jetta and have performed this surgery. Observationaly, a few caveats to anyone wishing to tackle this project. I would add (or caution) people re a few points who are new to (or rusty on) panel removal: First, I would employ the addition of a stiff, thin metal backing plate placed behind any pry tool, to prevent any marring / flattening when serious leverage is needed. I ended up "flattening" a few (albeit somewhat concealed) padded/pebbled black surfaces on lower bolsters. I have in times past used a flat steel electrical j box cover plate (filed sharp edges first then taped the edges with black electrical tape. In retrospect, I should have brought that out of retirement for this project, as the pry force needed was significant. Next: Use EXTREME CAUTION w/ regards of "where" you pry . I had an issue on the passenger side "latticed aluminum" (looking) trim piece, where I flattened/broke a few keyed alignment tabs. I also dislodged some rubber guide pads - and ended up with an inconsistent number of these rubber caps with regards to the number of tabs present, and "not knowing" which tabs needed pads and which didnt, i had to "punt". I did pry (additionally for more leverage) from the top of this panel too, which turned out was NOT a good idea! Re: installing and tucking the harness, my fat hands deemed removing 5 more torx (and the radio bucket) an overall easier task in terms of fitting things, and tucking the multi pin plug to the right. Re assembly, pretty straightforward, BUT, a few more cautions: I had difficulty with refitting the large, fragile, (and tab keyed) gauge cluster / radio bezel. It SEEMS I i wasn't paying complete attention and missed a key tab, going "over instead of under", when snapping this piece back into place, so now, under the radio, i have a slight mis-fit with what appears a minor "gap" under one section of the radio and this bezel. Also, i had not completely re-seated the bezel near the trip odo reset button, pushing this a bit more fixed that issue. Actual product review to follow soon. Jack (speakernut)

VERY helpful! Be sure and use the plastic tools (I got them for $6 on Amazon). Be CAREFUL with panel #3 (the first panel he removes after moving the camera to the passenger side). I believe that one is the most difficult. I broke one T and two of the three shorter plastic clips. Look at the direction of the clips after he removes each panel. Also, be sure to pay attention to both his hands b/c sometimes he twists the panel but it isn't obvious b/c he's very good at it.

Thanks to this tutorial I was able to spruce up the dash a little bit by adding some vinyl wrap to the shiny black parts didn't have enough guts to do the radio though!

I'm having a lot of trouble taking off the long silver piece on the passenger side. It looks like the little clips on the top are undone but it's not popping out at all. It's still very tight

Man, I don't know how you popped those panels off so easily. I bought your guy's amplifier kit and tool set and am in the middle of working the project now... I nearly snapped the bone tool trying to get the long silver piece off and I broke 3 of its clips while doing it! They sure didn't make it easy to disassemble. I just couldn't seem to get the same leverage that you did...the panel (or tool) would just bend regardless of where I put the tool. Any recommendations?

Thanks this was a big help. Adding a amp line out, can i use same color wires for left right as the last gen jetta? Purple and green for speakers ( pos side ) red 12v brown ground. Still same?

I just bought me the 2019 Jetta and its in need of a sound upgrade and i never keep my car audio stock.

I’m currently installing this upgrade on my Jetta r line but I’m really having trouble removing the long silver panel. I purchased all the tools you used in the video but I’m still struggling with that one long panel. I’m in Florida so the cold is not an issue. Any recommendations?

Hey is that a CD player at the bottom of the radio? Or is that the little bar that senses when your hand moves close.
