Fun fact...the OEM brake pads on the GLI are actually the ones used on the Golf R, which are both larger than the pads that are found on the 7.5 GTI. It's only on the Perf. Pack GTI that you get the same size pads. Just thought I'd throw that in there....and now you know.
And that is 100% factual. The only difference is that the rear rotors are the same as the non performance pack GTIs which had me very confused when I did my brakes in the past.
Just picked up a 2022 Jetta GLI and I really do love it. I came from a 2014 BMW X6 in search of better gas mileage and maintenance and I’m super impressed. The only gripe I have is not having a heated steering wheel due to chip shortages. Looking forward to the years and mods to come!
2022 are currently available only in Autobahn configuration. Buying a new GLI in 2022 set me back $34k plus TTL which was a good deal in the current car market. Still happy with my experience. No sub $30k deals unless you buy used.
I got my GLI in 2020 before covid. They told me it doesn't have a heated steering wheel because its the GLI steering wheel. The regular jetta came with a heated wheel.
I got my 2022 vw jetta gli in July and I love it. Previously I owned a BMW and it is because I could not get a new BMW I switched to VW. The BMW dealers are out of new vehicles and had only demos.
I just did that. Like literally yesterday. I had a GLI that lasted me 200,000 miles. Bought a wrx, was super uncomfortable and a weak platform, I freaking love driving my 2020 GLI I just traded my 2020 wrx for. It’s so much nicer man.
SICK! Just learned about GLI right now lol. It’s also DSG like the GTI!!! 🤯 Does the Stage 1 tune fix the manual mode how it tends to up-shift & downshift on its own?
Great video. Total VAG noob here. I am a Subaru guy and currently have a 2020 wrx. But looking for a bit better interior and tech and I realized 2022 GLI looks a great deal considering the price. I like Elantra N but I feel like I am a bit old for it 😃 GLI is more mature while still having fun factor. Do you know what is new in 2022 GLI? Is it a significant refresh? If I get one, it would be manual. Can manual transmission and stock clutch handle increased power too? Thanks.
Haha yeah the N is a really good car but different league and less mature for sure! The 22 GLI is just a refresh, some mild changes to the looks, steering wheel, seat color, slightly louder exhaust, but everything else is pretty much the same but they may have rounded out a lot of issues in the new facelift like the rattles. Manual GLI with stock clutch you can definitely still push like a stage 2 but After that you might need a better clutch but the trans itself should be more than enough.
@@Sleepygarage as stated the 2022 is a mild refresh. Over the earlier 18,20 model they have gone to USBC ports and added wireless CarPlay and android auto. I would caution against aggressive tunes with the oem clutch on a manual. It will likely need an upgrade after a short while. I have a 2020 as my Mk7.5 GTI was totaled and the mk8 wasn’t out yet. I am currently EQT stage 1 with full bolt ons and I will say I enjoy the GLI more than I thought I would.
I had a 2011 wrx hatch, a 2015 accord v6 coupe, 2016 wrx, 2005 acura tl, 2006 Jetta GLI and now a 2020 GLI - all in the last 6 years. I’ve got to say that the GLI (MK7) is my favorite. You have to go DSG, it’s honestly the better option, it’s faster and just as fun and you don’t have to upgrade the clutch. If you go manual you have to upgrade the clutch just like the si if you mod it. If you haven’t made the jump yet, jump in!
I've had my 2020 GLI S for over a year and highway I've gotten 42.5 MPG in eco mode doing 70-75 on cruise control. Everything is completely stock. Even if I had the money I don't think stage 2 is for me. I cannot stand obnoxious exhaust systems. That said, from what your mic picks up, yours isn't annoying like a honda trying to emulate a lawn mower.
Great video! I’m considering getting a GLI. Can you please the exact model and part numbers of the turbo/intercooler, as well as the sway bar and dog-bone upgrades. I’m not going anywhere near stage 2, but I do want a little more engagement in my daily driver. Any issues with carbon deposits and other reliability concerns with the stock car and then after the upgrades? Thank you!
@Sleepygarage I also have ‘19 GLI with DCC and thinking about lowering with EMD springs. How do they ride and work with the DCC system? I’m only looking for a moderate drop, maybe 1” max, and minimal ride quality impact. I really like the DCC function and don’t want to lose that. Thanks!
This is on some crappy A/S tires at the time of filming too, but yeah the biggest let down of this car is shitty tires, I’ve tried Indy500s and PS4s and they’re the best ‘performance mod’ you can get for that car
Very curious that your car came with Nav and heated rear seats. I got a 21 Autobahn DSG and got neither of those. I am curious if that's how your dash looked from factory as mine does not look similar where you can see what gear you're in outside of manual mode, maybe a US vs Canada thing?
Cool video shoot but you told me NOTHING about 50k of ownership. And you voice sounds really sleepy, like you are just reading to your self and you don't care what you're reading. No hate just honest feedback.
Great video man, came here from the FB Gli page, can you make a video about the lane keep assist change to center the car in the lane with OBD11 and one for your digital dash setup. Thanks
I really wish this car would be available in Europe. I'm currently driving an mk5 Jetta and I love it. Makes me sad that they don't sell this beauty here
Loving it! You mentioned the lane keep/assist change in OBD11, any idea what the "app" for that change is called? Or any link to long code for it? Thanks much!
The reason(s) this vehicle appeals to me. 1. Price isn't atrocious 2. I prefer sedans to crossovers and SUV's 3. Seems like it's be a reasonably fun daily, while maintaining practicality 4. Sleeper factor. It's unassuming but had tuning potential
I own the base model of this same car. Couldn’t get the higher trim, was unavailable. Base model is really sad, crappy FM radio, crappy small touchscreen, cloth seats, etc. It is fun to drive, however.
I bought the 2019 model and i will never forgive vw for leaving dynamic chasis control out until 2020... the car is sooo uncomfortable driving any longer then 20 minutes. As much as i love the car that alone combined with the rattles that get worse over time just ruin it.
@@dailydrivensedans4875 yeah I’m in a GLI group in Toronto and it’s consistent that all the 19 GLIs have a shit ton of rattles form the trunk to he sunroof to the passenger door, 2020 they fixed most of the rattles and now the newer 7.5 GLI it’s way more solid, they really just rushed the 19 GLI out with no quality control and fixed it later on
Nice looking car, what spoiler did you install on this? Love the shape and style. Picking up a Mk7.5 facelift, not sure if the trunk shape is different enough from yours
Have the 2019 35th anniversary edition in white, which is even more stripped down, but a manual 6 which keeps me really engaged in driving. I will be seeing my guy at Tirol Sport in Queens NY to take the modification journey soon. Shout out to Bruno’s VW Audi in Glendale Queens NY. Congratulations on your well spoken presentation and factual discussion of your experiences.
Wait I have had mine over a year now. How do I turn on the lane assist?! I use it quite a bit for road trips home and use cruise control. I need to know lol.
What wheels are those? How is the seating position for longer rides? I sat in one at a dealer and they seem stiff and the position didnt seem that good but I was only in it for a little while.
Enkei TY-5s, the seating position is great for road trips pretty comfortable, but I don’t like how it doesn’t go very low so it’s not a very ‘sporty’ position like the GTI or R, but the seat is wider and less bolstered so it’s very good to daily in I think
Given the crazy prices of cars right now the difference between a 2022 GLI and GTI Performance is 3-4,000$. Given the choice, would you stick with the GLI or just spend for the GTI?
I’d spend for the GTI since it’s an MK8 instead of an Mk7 so it’s got some more things and tech that I’d be missing out on as well as a better tuned chasis.
I’ve a 2022 GLI Autobahn as well , curious anyone with a GLI from the past 2-3 years having issues with a bit of wobble in certain positions in the drivers seat ?
The best JB4 instructions would be the actual JB4 website instructions specifically for MK7 GTI/GLI but autoninstruct has a great video of his jb4 install on the golf r (same thing essentially)
