Volkswagen Jetta VR6 || True South African icon 

Kids today still walk by my class making this sound 😅

Sold mine a few weeks ago, owned it over 13 years. I never thought much of my car until I let it go, that car was one of a kind. The grunt, the cold start up idle, the kick down exhaust barble noise and that 3rd gear pull. I had several sound systems in it over the years but honestly the noise the car made was enough for me. Tinin chain issues are on the first generation Mk3 VR6. The gearbox issues is like any other fwd car gearbox actually,why its such a headache for the VR6 is because of the belhousing design so finding a replacement box tats not been welded is nearly impossible, I went through 3 gearboxes(it chows diffs or maybe it was just mine 😅)... I still feel like this cars should have came out with a LSD. Dont do a cone filter Elton, thats gonna mess up your air mass meter... Your car sounds right, if you want to enhance that noise, a 57mm exhaust upgrade is enough(anything bigger is just gonna make you lose torque) PRO Fit is very capable of sorting you out, take you stock exhaust home with you when you do change it.... Keep the stock downpipes though. Upgrade the alarm somewhere reputable. Also be ready for fuel pump failure on the OBD2... Its normal. Other than that, use the right oil and don't over rev the car too much, it like to scream but its not built for that constant high revs. Very nice car, I had a golf same color as this jetta, but always wanted a jetta, there are a few of these gems here in Cape Town... There is a white jetta in Brackenfelle,a burgandy one in Tokai and another green one in Panorama(2 of it I see often and driven by elderly people) oh and a green golf on Durbanville also driven by a elderly man.

Love this, British guy here with a Corrado VR6 and when I was in SA last year seeing my girlfriends cousins I was shocked he could do the best VR impression I’ve ever heard. Watching this makes sense!

I was 5 years wold when I realized and understood what car my dad drives. Older boys in the hood would always look in awe, whistling and howling. A lot of memories. Unfortunately, he got hijacked twice. First time, the cops found it. The second time they also found it but he immediately took it to the Eastern Cape and left it there until he found a buyer for it here in Cape Town. And that was it. He was maturing into a "Dad" lol. No more loud engines for him. My mother was happy he let the car go. He's always loved German engineering and he went for more family orientated cars. He got a BMW 7 series and my mom wanted an Opel Astra. Back when Opel was still purely German. I miss the VR6

They do sound good . I recently bought a opel rekord 380ie , searching ages for a nice one , found a maroon cloud in langebaan , 1 owner 117k on clock . The car will be coming to Scotland in a month . Which will be at shows next to my e90 m3 manual , 1 of 7 in uk . The opel will be the only 1 in uk . Would be great if you did a review of a opel rekord 380i . Made from 91-95. The manual GSI was only made for 2 yrs , the cdv6 was for 3years only 3000 or so made . But in 94 they change it to ie model , and 230 was made . I’m lucky to have it .

First and last new car I bought was a 1997 Jetta GLX VR6 in this same German Forest Green color. It had the tan leather interior. I ended up selling the GLX after a few years and bought a fully loaded and professionally tuned MK3 1995 GTi VR6. I owned the GTi for around 15 years before finally selling it. I now have a pretty well tuned Mercedes C-Class. Iced been looking to scoop up a Mk3 VR6 though. These MK3 Jetta’s are still semi inexpensive and pretty easy to find. Mk1, MK2 and MK3 GTi’s are going for a premium now.

I’ve had several of those powerful engines 3 Jettas 1 drivers edition golf GTI. As a current owner of several Jetta’s TDI, this mk3 body style was definitely the most beautiful model VW came out with, weather it was a golf or a Jetta

Please don't change the filter. It will mess up the engine. About 250k km you need to change the cam chain and guides as preventative maintenance and gearbox oil. It will last if it's not hammered all the time.

If you didn't maintain this car ...blood from the eyes is a common issue as the expenses will leave u drained...non the less a legend "VURA"

Yes the VR came out in 1993. My 1st new car was 93 glx Jetta . I have a Mark4 R32 now, I cant believe how much they went up in price in just 4 years. The VR was originally gonna be a diesel, thats why they are so stout. Folks need to remember these motors are in heavier cars than the Hondas. The VR is one of the most reliable motors out there. Im at 180,000 miles and daily drive it.

VR6 is an awesome car, seems like all VW owners love the 3rd gear pull, irrespective of which versions you are driving and lastly it sounds like VW gearboxes has been problematic for decades and it has been genetically transferred to the DSG as well.
