I have a 2002 Beetle which makes it almost 20 years old and I still get compliments. I swear you can get more attention in this from girls then you would with a brand new Mustang or Camaro. I always get girls telling me how cute it is and it's always a good conversation starter.

Can you blame the girls for saying that about your cute 2002 VW New Beetle.

DUDE. The very first day I had the car I had two different girls tell me my car was "SOOOOO cute." 😂 I wholeheartedly agree with your original statement, in one day I got more attention in my bug than I have in my beefy Ford truck
@bajaboy27
@bajaboy27 Год назад
Lol. Unfortunately, the kind of attention you get for your bug, it's exactly for that, the bug. These ladies ain't interested in you. 🤣 I bought one for my daughter, it's a good car(since she doesn't have a license yet 17yrs old, I have to drive it for now), I've noticed the car does gets attention everywhere I go, but I'm starting to not like it. Planning on tinting the windows in the mean while.

I had one - loved it to death. The first generation is built on the Golf platform so it feels and drives like a Golf only the body shape is different. Mine was a 1999 GLS trim. VW’s second generation shifted to the Jetta platform. This was a revival of the iconic car by the VW and it was fun to drive. All we can hope is for a resurrection of this much beloved car in the future.

I love how people are STILL talking about this car. I'm wondering if it will indeed be considered a classic eventually. I've owned my 2001 GLX manual in this same techno blue for 15 years now and I'm STILL in love with it. Great video. I was pleased to watch. One cool detail about the back seat folding..... the bottom folds up towards the front seats, the read head rests then insert into the bottom of the rear seat, allowing the back of the seat to lay flat. Creating a huge trunk. Next time you're around a new beetle you should try it. It's ac really neat unexpected design. Thanks again for the video.

MAN i MISS my New Beetle and this entire generation of VW's. The models they produced in the late 90's through the early/mid 2000's were the best. So German and real step up quality wise from competitors.. they felt like little Audis and Bimmers.

Just got one of these going; it needed a new clutch. It's pretty funny going from a massive lifted squarebody Chevy to a little bug in which the roof doesn't even make it to the bottom of my truck's window, but it's nice to save gas and be able to keep my truck out of the SD salt for the rest of the winter.

I’ve got a 2002 1.8t manual color concept (yellow with yellow interior and rims). I absolutely love it. It handles like a sports car and has very adequate acceleration (0-60 in about 7.2 seconds). The design took a while to grow on me, but I adore it now. Such a unique car

Just don't put too many miles on the engine. I had a 2001 and the engine turned out to be crap in the long run (don't remember how many miles I put on it, but I think it was around 100K or less). Yes, I did regular oil changes, in case you're wondering. But I had to get a replacement used engine ($4500 for a low-mileage engine) about a year before I finally donated it. I think I also had to get the transmission replaced. The overall maintenance costs had just increased way too much (and I was told that the newer VW Beetle cost twice as much to maintain) for me to hold onto it. I'm not a mechanic so doing the work the car needed myself was way beyond what I could do. Otherwise? Yes, I still miss mine. 16 years of ownership. Fun to drive, especially on curvy roads. Great connection between steering wheel and tires. I didn't care about the flower-holder (in fact, I removed it almost immediately and never reinstalled it). Also, I had the automatic transmission and for a long while it was great. Btw, I had a used 1992 Geo Storm before the VW and it lasted from 32,500 miles to around 165,000 miles in 6 1/2 years. Engine never had to be replaced (and I was not a good owner back then; I've improved since then). Drove it up to Prince Edward Island once, then halfway across Canada (to Manitoba), down to the Dakotas, then eventually east to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, before heading back north to where I lived. The next year I drove it up to Nova Scotia and back. And a few years later drove it down to Key West and back. Not the most comfortable seats for long distance drives. If the VW's original engine had been as good as the Geo's, I would've kept the VW, and I wouldn't have been driving a used 2005 Honda Civic for the past three years. (The Honda is great, mileage-wise. I can get up to 40 mpg on the highway), four doors, nice room for luggage in the rear trunk. My heart is just more VW-centered than Honda-centered.)

I owned a 2008 New Beetle 1.6, repaired almost everything, from the cracked door panel, roof panel, tear leather seat, broken shifter dust cover, faulty window motor, jammed CD player, fans and the list goes on. Except the normal wear and tear parts change be prepared with hefty bill when the mileage goes over 120000KM when all the pipes and tubes and rings and cover go burst and cracking due to aging. The parts were expensive and due to the limited room in the engine bay your foreman is going to charge you extra for their works as many parts will have to be dismantle prior to some fixing. Oh ya the sensors too.... compared to my Toyota Camry which is 15 years old and still running good on the road without creating much problems and all the essential parts are still in good working condition the maintenance of Japanese care is really much cheaper. I’m commenting from the perspective of an owner of vw beetle reside in tropical country.

As I said before, don't put too many miles on the engine. The car cost me $21,000 in 2001, and about 15 years later, I had to replace the engine and transmission with a used one for about $5000 (which practically emptied my bank account back then). I loved driving the VW New Beetle. My favorite parts were the great steering (you really feel connected to the road) and the great tires (once I got them replaced with all-year-round Goodyear Eagle tires -- well worth the $100/tire that it cost me back then). I miss it, but not the costs. I was later told by a VW mechanic that the costs for maintaining the VW Beetle (not the original air-cooled one, but the model that came after the New Beetle) were usually twice what the VW New Beetle's cost. The choice to buy it is yours, but I recommend proceeding with caution. The time to "jump" is before you sign the car's sales contract, not after. I also recommend having a trustworthy mechanic inspect the car first.@@katherinemysteries4973

Just picked up a bargian 2001 GLX 5 speed manual with a turbo. Surprised it has some power. Luckily fiund one woth good maintenance record, but there are many maintenance quirks that could cost way too much if you dont do the work yourself. Also, lots of plastic parts prone to breaking, fortunately there is a strong aftermarket for them.

A friend has a 2004 Beetle and it won't shift properly until the car has warmed up. Otherwise you have to lift your foot off the gas and then it will. Kind of like Chevy powerglides would do when they were getting old. Any ideas....water temp sensor??

I bought a blue 2000 TDI 5 speed manual New Beetle new too and have put over 423K miles on it. MPG is great on highway averaging close to 50 MPG and with the 14.5 gallon tank, have pushed it to 700 miles between fill ups on occasion during summer months. Definitely a keeper.

Its a classic. The retro look is part of its charm. It looks nothing like the original but it was inspired by it and and the main difference is that apart from being front drive where the original was rear drive, is it came with safety and comfort updates lacking in the original. It was a huge success for VW and there will never be a car like it again.
