Volosko is a small fishing and tourist town in Kvarner, about 2 kilometers north of the center of Opatija. The name of the settlement comes from the name of the Slavic god Veles (mythology).
It was the most populated region of Opatija, which favored the development of its coastal functions. It was mentioned for the first time in 1543, and in the past it received ships of all sizes and played the role of the port of the town of Kastava. In 1860, it was politically and ecclesiastically separated from the town of Kastava and became an independent municipality until 1932, when it became part of the town of Opatija.
