This circuit is a Voltage/Phase Detector and works thanks to three BC547 transistors. The operation of the circuit is very simple, the small antenna is able to pick up the electromagnetic wave (EMF) emitted by the electric voltage.. this signal is amplified by the transistors, the third transistor acts as a switch and when signal reach its base it becomes closed switch and turn on the LED. This detector can be powered from 3 volts to 9 volts DC, I have prepared the PCB to house a 3 volt battery (CR2032). Read the list of components carefully if you want to power my project differently. It is designed to be used as a phase detector on medium voltage electrical systems (at 230v AC). Be very careful when using these tools, 230 Volt is very dangerous and can kill!
What is a phase detector?
A phase detector is a simple and inexpensive instrument used to detect the presence of electrical voltage on any circuit and in particular to identify the presence of a phase on a conductor. There are different types of phase detector, usually they have the shape and functionality of a screwdriver, but in the transparent and insulating handle there is a small neon lamp with an electrical resistance connected in series... one end of the circuit is connected to the tip of the screwdriver, the other to a plate on the handle. But this is my electronic version!
Components (if powered with 3 volt battery):
- 3x BC547 NPN Transistor
- 1x 5 mm LED (Red, Yellow or Green)
- 1x CR2032 Battery (3 volt)
- 1x CR2032 Battery Case
- 1x 100Ω Resistor (220Ω if powered with more than 5v)
- 1x 100KΩ Resistor
- 1x 560KΩ Resistor
- 1x 10uF (25/100v) Electrolytic Capacitor
- 1x On/Off Button with 4 Pin
- 1x Metal Wire 7cm (1 mm thickness)
If you add PWR Led:
- 1x 3/5 mm LED (Any color)
- 1x 1KΩ Resistor (if powered with more than 5v)
- 1x 330Ω Resisrtor (if powered with less than 5v)
- PCB: drive.google.com/file/d/1LrOH...
*Don't use my PCB for profit or sponsored videos.

Here is my comment and my likes! Very nice product, Stefano, thank you! I will regularly poll the channel to get your gerber files. The antenna connected to an Arduino could become a tactile sensor as well ;-)

Hi Luigi, thank you as always!:) You're right about the touch sensor, some time ago I did something like that but with a BC546 if I remember correctly

Can I use 3 C1815 in this circuit?
@Stefano91ste
@Stefano91ste 3 года назад
Hi, no because the pinout is different and they are not equivalent. Some BC547 equivalent transistors are: 2N2222, 2N3904, PN100, 2N4401 or BC337

That horizintal cap is irritating! 😂 GEN 2?
@Stefano91ste
@Stefano91ste 3 года назад
I was convinced that I had a smaller one in size (always 10uF) when I designed the PCB, and in the end I had to make do with that 😅🤣

@@Stefano91ste Well maybe you could modify the PCB because things like that are annoying. I must confess that its nice when I finish a kit and its perfectly soldered and nothings fkd up. 😁👍🏻 I built a clock like yours and the first one was a bit of a fk up. I put a wrong cap in just under the two 100 micro farad electrolytic caps on the right hand side of the PCB and the realised it should have been a 10 uF. Sigh. So I did my best to pull it out and you know how hard that is. Well I pulled it out and put the little one in but the legs where cut off. Well I did manage to get it into the partially soldered holes. Still it wasn't perfect and it was leaning over which looked crappy. Then while I was soldering the aerial I burnt the side of a 4 digit 7 segment led tube. 😆 Hit with the ugly stick. 🤣🤣 The clock works but its like an ugly child.😂👍🏻Anyway, it'll be a reminder of how not to build a kit.

I understand you very well, I am also quite a freak of precision in assembly :D... in reality the PCB is in place like this, I had thought of using a 10uF capacitor but shorter.. unfortunately I had finished them, and it was not convenient for me to order it now, both for the timing (this video would be released in next 2 months) that in terms of cost (unfortunately now in Italy I have to pay 5 € for customs clearance for each package, so it is better to combine the orders in one). I didn't find it in the shop and the fairs have been suspended :(

@@Stefano91ste Yes, I can see you are very fussy at soldering and getting things perfect which is good. Thats why I like your videos. I guess once your pcbs are made its impossible to change them. What can you do? Not much. Yes I hate how long it takes to get stuff from China. Its not China's fault its Australian post. Stuff arrives in Melbourne then they freight it to Sydney which is just fkn stupid and crazy. So its in Australia for 7 days which makes my blood boil.🤬 Its only 1.5 hours from me in Melbourne. Wtf is going on? Yeah we pay GST of 10% which used to be free if it was under 1000 AUD. Our oligarchs got pissed off because we were buying heaps of stuff. One of our oligarchs got $600'000'000 this finacial year (government welfare). No justification for it????!!! No wonder I get so fkn angry. Yes, same here better to buy in bulk although ours is a percentage of cost of goods. Its a harder fkng we receive.😫😒😡 Anyway thats life in this unfair world.🤔😏

You are absolutely right to be angry, I understand you... I am still waiting for a package from China, ordered in April, arrived in Italy on May 4th, and has been in the hands of the postal service ever since.. shocking! Once assembled my PCBs can be "modified" in case you need to replace a component, I often use the sockets for the integrated, so in those cases there is no need for a soldering iron.. and sorry for my slow response. PS: The PCB is now available for download, link in video description.
