ARE YOU THE COOLEST PERSON EVER???? i hope you find a totally awesome husk or something ;v; and ummmmm i think it's a wonderful thing because the fact that you pay so much attention to these videos honestly astounds me and i wait in much anticipation to hear what you have to say ;v; you're so eLOQUENT WITH YOUR WORDS FRIEND!! i'm not totally sure if the ideas for their eyes come from one specific place?? they're drawn from memory but it must be inspired by the webcomics, art, and other cartoons that i've seen!! wowza, i feel like you should be coloring these cause you have a way better reason than i do, and i like yours better ;v; uhhh well once you get to start watching voltron (which hopefully you do) you'll see that color coding is one of their (very necessary) specialties so if you've noticed that the same characters are always the same colors it's because that's essentially "their" color (i'm trying not to give too much away). i used the whites in their eyes in "Alien Communication" because, yes, i was experimenting for the pure aesthetic value of it, aaaannnd i didn't like it that much so i stopped doing it unless it was a shot with dramatic lighting. and a lot of these decisions are purely based on what i think "looks good" to me, not only cause i generally think more visually, but also cause my noggin's tiny :p but honestly, everything you've said, makes so much more sense so let's go with that instead LOL again, man, you're the best (and i HOPE YOU COME BACK WITH A NICE MAMMOTH THING)

Natalie awww thanks for the kind words! I'm not the coolest person I know though, that right is reserved for my parents. And really, the Columbian mammoth is actually the second concern in this excavation. The crew is really after the soil and sediment around the mammoth. I forget what the exact field of science it is that studies the conditions the corpse underwent throughout its 14,000 year burial by looking at the soil layers, so you'll have to excuse me for not being able to tell you, sorry! The process goes that we have 2 by 2 meter units surrounding the mammoth, each unit is dug out 5 centimeters at a time, every five centimeters any uncovered bones are mapped on some grid paper, the soil from the units are stored in buckets and given a field sample number. The buckets of dirt then go to wet sieves where the dirt is washed away and anything larger than the holes in the screen (1 millimeter) remains to be dried and taken to "pickers" who look under all the bits of sediment and whatever else with a microscope and make analysis based on their observations. The bones are of course also taken up carefully throughout this process and are sent off for various tests or to be reconstructed by a crew above the site that I'm not too familiar with. Today I worked on mapping a unit with two others and was then transferred to the wet sieves based on necessity. The backlog of dirt from the previous week was what we call "slough," basically the top most layers of dirt that still contain non-decomposed plant life and various other things from the last couple centuries. Slough is usually the least interesting and most tedious to clean because dirt is hard to extract from plant fibers and none of the mammoth bones are usually found there but it's still necessary to have all the data. Of note, I found some rodent's skeleton in one of the buckets I was cleaning so after washing the dirt away from it, I collected as many pieces as were apparent and put it in a pill bottle to be analyzed separately from the regular sediment. There was also a nondescript chunk of bone that was seemingly not from a smaller creature so that was put with the rest of the washed material. We also had a tour of about 40-50 people come through in the middle of the day which caused us to temporarily stop working so they could hear our wet-screen specialist talk. After I completed 5-7 buckets and a lunch break, the crew wrapped things up, stored everything, and said our goodbyes until tomorrow. We work at the site every second and third weekend of every month excluding winter times so a lot needs to be done those four days in order to keep our overseer happy. It should be noted though that his oversight is the reason we've never mixed a field sample, one of the worst things you could ever possibly do in our scenario, even with the entire crew including myself being volunteers. As a change of subject, I find it remarkable that you say you don't know what you're really doing when choosing good design techniques. If you've gone to school for it, then you've absolutely retained something from your classes, regardless if you realize it! Moreover, if you're just naturally talented, I'd be interested to see what a little schooling would do to refine your work. Good gods this comment is too long, you have things to do, Imma go now.
