What if volunteering was one opportunity that could help you create the life you dreamed of?
Imagine yourself as a changemaker where You can overcome fears, break stereotypes and remove barriers? In her talk, Kamilla tells the story of how volunteering changed her life and how it can empower anybody involved in it. Find out why volunteering is no longer nice but necessary to start a life with meaning, skillset and quality human connections. Kamilla is a member of '40 under 40' European Young leaders network and a recipient of the 'Women of the Decade in Community leadership' from the Women Economic Forum in India. A native of Uzbekistan, Kamilla has lived and worked in different parts of the world. While promoting the Finnish education & inclusion, Kamilla also runs the Finnish branch of the Global Dignity NGO on youth empowerment. In the video, Kamilla explains that when you empower others, you empower yourself, making volunteering a great give & take process - where everybody wins. Through her brisk and bold story, she encourages everyone to serve or be a door opener for others, with opportunities that eventually make up one's life. Kamilla shows how serving others done right is life-transformative and instrumental in bringing citizens and societies equally forward. She also proves that one’s gender and one’s origin is not an obstacle to living a full life. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

TEDx Talks - is undoubtedly a prestigious stage. I am proud to see an Uzbek woman to present on a stage of this level. I've seen Sheryl Sandberg, Amy Cuddy, Melinda Gates, Julie Lythcott-Haims and other women leaders on TED stages; and, Kamilla's topic was as timely important as theirs. Kamilla presented on a topic that is much needed - although oftentimes ignored or unappreciated among the Uzbek youth - within Uzbekistan. I hope her talk will inspire many youth - particularly women - in Uzbekistan. I also hope that Kamilla will soon introduce a research-based systematic guideline on how Uzbek youth can participate in volunteering opportunities to address unresolved issues and be able to contribute to the country's development as global citizens.

Thank you so much Ulugbeknur for the kind feedback and suggestions. I couldnot agree more the timing is good when Uzbekistan is opening up and in the middle of reforms and I was already invited to give a speech about volunteering in spring 2018 even before TEDx. With baby steps I am sure we can all make a little difference for boys and girls! Thanks again!

I searched the internet to understand the core of volunteering and how I can immerse myself in it so as to be fulfilled that I really volunteered, then I stumbled upon this video. This seems to be the best video for me. However, there are details therein that we can actually look into as individuals. Those details are what made her. We all can't be Kamilla but we all can be changemakers through volunteering. I think that's my take. Thank you TEDx for giving this stage to Kamilla.

thank you Ridwan, I am so glad to hear it has given you a good reasoning. In times like covid right. now, I find it as a necessity to be engaged and look after one another and still pursue tiny little steps towards our goals and dreams. Wish you well.

I am very passionated about volunteering and this has made me more passionate. I also am very passionate in inclusion. My friend groups are not only white Americans like I am. I have many different nationalities people when it comes to friends. Although, I do not have any Uzbekistan friends I would not be opposed to having one. Keep up your hard work.

I am proud to see our Uzbek girl on this stage. The topic is very in need. Her speech is very organized. I wonder how long did you prepare your speech to reach this level? It is perfect. The reason for leaving our country was not a strong argument.

Yarya assalom aleykum, it took several coaching sessions from February to May, so roughly 3 months and perhaps focused 2 months. I have recorded it multiple times to hear feedback and work with my TEDx coaches and I would recommend to tap into resources of ted talks as well as toastmasters. There are plenty ways to become a speaker and I do encourage you to practice a speech which is 5-6 minutes. And then you can build up on it. Start today!

Kamila, it was so important to hear your story! I got involved in volunteering when I was around 12 or 13 as well and for many of the same reasons: feeling like I wanted to change the world while breaking stereotypes and facing fears! Thank you for sharing this Tedx Talk :)
