Really helpful, thanks! I was going to add that besides honorary AP positions, some trusts (i.e. Sussex Partnership) offer graduate psychology internships or undergrad placements which are basically the same thing. Some trusts offer 0 hour contracts for health care assistants on their mental health wards which are PAID, flexible around studies/ placements etc and really helpful experience.
Yooo thanks for this sis!! This is so helpful, there's like barely any psychology volunteering around but Im so happy you made this video! I'll definitely check these out!! Also, hope you get a good final grade on your psych degree (◕ᴗ◕✿)
Leah It’s all about being creative with it. I think many volunteering organisations can give you transferable skills too x thank you! You too, best wishes x
Thank you so much this video is so helpful! I always find volunteering so hard to get into but really going to try now I'm hoping to go back to school and study 😇
Another beautiful and useful video as always, thank you! I just wanted to make a note of the use of “commit suicide”. I have done a lot of suicide awareness training and reading up recently and a lot of sources point out that saying commit suicide can have a negative connotation. It says a better way to word it is “died by suicide”/ “thinking about killing yourself/suicide” etc depending on context. The word “commit” has been used in the past when suicide was seen as a crime/sin and it implies a sense of guilt and criminality which we are trying to move on from. Hope this makes sense, loved the video as always 🥰. I’m volunteering for Shout UK - it’s a text line crisis support service and it’s very flexible, you can volunteer at any time 24/7 that works best for you. The training you undertake before commencing volunteering is amazing and lots of training is provided after too. My local Mind has a lot of clinically-relevant roles, I am on a waiting list for an IAPT volunteer role and waiting for a space to free up. Samaritans, Childline and Victim Support are all great options too. Lots of stuff out there to fit individual needs and commitments 😊🍀
Vicky Bisova Thanks for the correction! I’ve actually heard that once before it went over my head in this video. And thanks for the volunteering suggestion too sounds like a really good one as well x
@@EseKanayo I'm really sorry, I didn't mean for it to sound patronising or anything. I remember feeling mortified when I first heard it as that's what I used to say... And I'm someone who has a very personal experience in the matter 😳😳. Xx
Vicky Bisova Nooo I get it! To be honest it is important to check your language. I literally googled what “commit” actually means and realised it’s about the idea of something being criminal/illegal which is very inappropriate for the context I used it in. It’s better to correct what’s not right, thanks it’s appreciated x
Thank you so much sis. You're amazing. You're an inspiration to us... I'm doing my 3rd year and I can't wait to graduate. Im very opened minded with my Degree now. I was demovited thinking what's next after my Degree😩since being a psychologist is a long road. But now I know I can use my undergraduate degree with my volunteer experience and Find something with my degree. So Thank u for sharing such incredible Information. At this day and age we need to hold each other's hand and help one other to not give up. GOD BLESS YOU❤️💐
I've just began volunteering at MIND 😊💜 I'm volunteering within the CBT service as a telephone/face to face support worker for those undergoing CBT Therapy. Super excited. 😊✌️
I'll like to volunteer at MIND also, I don't know how to go about it as I am willing to work remotely. Can you perhaps help to guide me on how to go about it?
@@ayokanmiaremu2889 hey you need to contact your city's local MIND and see what volunteer opportunities they have. Then you apply for for the role via an application form. If theyre interested in you you're then invited for an interview and if you're successful again they then require to run a DBS check on you. I'm not sure exactly what online/remote volunteering opportunities they have as all the roles at my local MIND are face to face. I hope this helps, good luck.
Is there any chance for me to get into master degree in counselling psychology without any related underdegree in psychology? by working on my profile in volunteering?
Very you very much for the video, it was insightful. I’ve volunteered at a hospice and I would definitely say it was a really good experience to anyone interested! I’m considering joining my Nightline at uni..I wanted to ask if you get to choose the hours and days you do for Nightline?
Oyin Adekoya At my university the hours are the same for everyone - You start at 7pm and finish at 8am the following morning 😳 BUTTTT throughout the shift everyone takes turns to sleep or be on duty. Those who are unhuman and don’t need to sleep at all in their life may stay up the whole night😂 Also you pick what shifts you want to do, just making sure you do at least one shift per semester. I’m not enturely sure if all uni’s have the same rules, but for Nottingham that’s how it works :) Thanks for watching x
I did Nightline (Uni of Leicester) and we got to choose the days but the shifts were all 8pm-8am for us, but as Ese said usually people switch who sleeps etc, and they're very chilled about when you do shifts. Although at mine we were supposed to do at least one shift a fortnight so uni's may vary (I guess depending on how many volunteers there are). It's brilliant experience though - I've heard form multiple clinical psychologists it's a great way to gain some experience early on because even though it's not clinical experience, it may help you get role in future x
