Volvo 240 Auto To Manual Transmission Swap AW71 to M47 5 Speed Part 3 

Great series here. I have done a manual swap on two 240s. First with a m47, latest with an m46. Awesome to see someone documenting the process! Edit: at around 6:30, most people probably won't have a full car jack (myself included). To stop the flywheel from spinning, I used a socket and breaker bar on the harmonic balancer bolt up front. I then turned it all the way down and let the bottom of the breaker bar hit the floor, so the engine couldn't spin while I torqued the flywheel bolts. Also works nicely when you are doing the swap by yourself.

Damn i remember watching your old volvo video years ago and since then i got a 240 manual for myself. Have always liked them, I think your video ended up helping sell me on them for modifying and turning into a fun car.

Legend has it that the Toyota cab in the back still hangs from the ceiling.

Sweet I will be doing a swap soon,found a m47 at a junkyard, pulled it and the pedals, cable, and the drive shaft. Just need to by a clutch kit for it and I should be good to go

im gonna grab a 240 to rebuild and manual swap as mym first build. hopefully by the end of the year

Hey, just a quick question. I'm doing the exact same aw71 --> M47 swap next week on my 240. At 4:50 you are talking about the pilot bearing + clip. I don't understand why though. Is it mandatory to swap that thing also? Is the Pilot Bearing different for automatic transmissions? Because, well of course, I didn't grab the manual pilot bearing + clip at the junkyard :/ Thanks!

Hey man I have two questions. You were able to replace the oil pan gasket without lifting the motor from the top with the trans out? And also, do you think 3 ton jackstands are tall enough to drop the trans?

Hi from UK, just doing m47 swap on my auto 240 turbo, do I need to redo the pilot bearing or does auto one work?

I just did my pedal box swap and now when I go to turn the car on it won’t crank. I’m really unsure of what I unplugged

I am doing the same swap,does the automatic have a flywheel? If so, can I use it with the 5 speed?

My auto pedal box can't be removed with the steering column in the way, how did you get it past the steering column??
