Own 3 240's, all in stellar shape. Two sedans ('90 and '92) and a wagon ('89). Amazing vehicles. All three in excellent shape and always ready to go.

I bought a Mid Blue 1985 (1986 model year) 240 wagon in April last year and was surprised when I saw the milage, it's done 74472 miles as of today (22.02.2024), found the right one after more than a decade as I didn't want a rusty project, I might swap in a 940 turbo engine and a 5 speed manual at some point in the future..

I've been repairing 240s in Portland Oregon for 26 years; best car ever built. My 240 wagon is an '88, which is the best year of the 240. They corrected the engine wiring harness for the '88 model, and before they added the problematic LH 2.4 fuel system in the '89. The LH 2.4 may need a new(rebuilt) computer. Nice video with all of the rally accidents, but the images of ridiculous engines in a 240 body do not belong in a buyers guide. Stock reliability made the Volvo name.

Have a 1980 245 DL also have a 1980 264 GL with a the 4 cly motor. Have had them for over 28 yrs. Interesting thing is the motors were made in line like 123A and 123B. Both sold at same dealer. Am 3dr owner of both cars. Great old cars that run for ever.

Volvo 200 series is best Volvos, for daily usage. But it's also a gamble, either you get a real workhorse or a project car. I've owned alot of 240's, but never a 242, they are quite hard too come by and parts also are semi hard too get for them. I've owned 240's from 78-91. There isn't alot of common problems besides rust, wheelarches and such.. But a very common thing in early 80's, I believe also late 70's volvos? Are electricial problems, I've had a 81 and 82's Volvo 244 that I had too turn off by shutting lights off. But there is alot of parts too them, some might be harder too come by depending on where you are in the world, but there is plenty of parts in Sweden and alot of aftermarket stuff, some parts from older or newer fits also kinda, depending on what part you wanna replace. But fuses are something you might wanna invest too change since the holder for fuses tends to rust or mess up so fuses go left and right, but you can buy a newer from like a newer 740 or 940, pretty much fits right in. But for my personal opinion? If you want a good daily car? Low mileage? Get a Volvo 240/245 with B230F, they might not be the funniest engine, but reliable and doesn't consume much oil or gas. But never ever get a D24, they are the worse. If you want a diesel engine in a 240? Get something else into it. If you want like a cool 240? Yeah, definality aim for a older 244/242 if you have the budget and experience with carbourators, you never know what previous owner has done too it. Also fun fact, in Norway 1994 they created the last volvo, so technically, it ended in 1994. But there is plenty of uniqe versions of 200 serie, 264, 265, 262 and there was a limmo version and there is cab versions, police/civilpolice versions and many others. But best part about old volvos? There is many diffrent available builds you can do, yet be greeted by most fellow volvo fans, you can make a JDM version, drift, drag, street race, soundsystem, rustic and whatever? Rally version aswell, it fits the car well. If you read this? And yet hasn't got a 240? I highly recommend it, and if you have one or had one? Wassup?

I recall my 240 had an O2 sensor issue. Good news is that an inexpensive Ford Mustang 02 sensor did the job.

I think you're missing the fact that you can just diy an intercooler to the turbo'd coupe. And similarly, the 2,3 l engines are so reliable that a simple ebay turbo setup will cost you nothing and more than double your hp easily without lowering the reliability too much.

shouldn't the title be Volvo 240 ULTIMATE Buyers Guide IF YOU'RE IN USA? Here's some notes. 3:00 ....in the american market yes. You don't really see b20F's anywhere else. Depending if you have a 1974 or 75, you'll have either 108hp or 97hp. Most early 240's had carburated B20's or B21's, like the B20A or the OHC B21A. And later the b23's. 3:15, again, the acceleration depends on what engine you got and what tranny. Most early 240's with around 100hp and a mahual tranny would do 0-60 in roughly 13-14 seconds. 3:46 if you're in the US, yes. 4:43 The GLT arrived in 1980. 5:15 Anywhere outside american you get the B21ET, with 155hp. 5:36 If you're in the US, yes. 6:19 This was accompanied by the launch of the 760. It was to make their model program more streamlined and understandable. There was also an "L" model, tho this never got sold in the US. 6:35 the B23 had been available since 1980, america just got it a bit later. 7:51 one of many b230 configurations. In europe and most other places teh b230A was the most common. But california is california, so all 240s got the F engines, becaus ethey could handle catalytic converters. 8:39 GLT 240's was available up to 1992, it was replaced with the SE package in 1993. Might be different for the US market. 9:08 The classic models usually had more options than the standard 240's. This is also true for the 940's. 10:50 the m45's and m46's are just fine. People still run them. There are a few different versions of the m46 depending on the power of the engine. And the m46 always came with an electric overdrive. 11:51 no, the motor mounts lasts longer than that. You have to do some ridiculously hard driving to make motor mounts go bad in 3 years.
@ETA555
@ETA555 Месяц назад
@@pontushaggstrom6261 3 different models of the M46 was made. The strong ones made for the 240 Turbo in 1981 and later for the 700/900 series with the 16valve and turbos.

The temp sensor that is mounted below the intake between cyl 3 and 4 mounted in the cylinder head. Change it and see if it helps. It could also be a bad fuel regulator. Check if the membrane is ok by pulling the vacuum hose.
