Thanks for the video. I'm currently removing this transmission from a 2008 Impala with 255,000 miles on her. I have never rebuilt a transmission but since mine is broken (The band you showed towards the beginning of the video broke, I found a part of it in the transmission pan) I figured I don't have much to lose. If it's to much I will slap the case back on and buy a rebuilt one .. if it's almost to bad I may rebuild it myself and cross my fingers! Thanks again for the video ✌️👌🦅

You are a God amoung men. Thank you for sharing this. i am stuck over here in the U.K. where most Volvo "technicians" seem to have forgotten how to repair the 4T65-E Transmission. The volvo we have drives fine, Unless you are on an incline in which case it rolls back if you take your foot off the brake from standstill, and has to rev like a freight train to get forward momentum uphill. Once moving forward all is good Or indeed if you are only driving on flat ground there are no issues so i suspect a defective forward band. I will watch this in full tomorrow when i have more time. but for now thank you again. I have subscribed. Kind Regards from London, Derek Anthony Farmer.

Try a reverse uphill from a standstill too. if it does the same thing in reverse as it did in forward it might be something else wrong and not the band.

hey! i just patched up someone else's work on one of these but it was in a volvo xc90 with awd... i gotta ask for advice since it seemed weird to me: quick summary, trans was "rebuilt" in frame by the owner with his son and they mangled the 2nd clutch pack piston seals and slipped, got into my hands and ive just put it back together but park doesnt "lock" the front wheels... is this normal with no oil or something might have gone wrong? i did put the detent into what should had been reverse (since i didnt pull the detent lever, only the spring/roller) along with the position sensor... also thanks for the video it was a huuuuuuge help with this madness! much props
@CurmudgeonTransmission

I would double check your assembling of the detent. If you are checking it with the wheels off the ground you will need to turn both wheels at the same time or it will not lock.

Wonderful Video Buddy. Is it true that the solenoids are magnetic and can become affected by too much swarf build up, and therefore more magnets in the pan would help? Or is this a bad idea? I was thinking of attaching an old strong hard drive magnet to the Pan (on the outside)

Many thanks for this very detailed tutorial. I have an '04 XC90 with this transmission. 80k miles, fluid pink, no fault codes. Transmission seems to make a scraping noise that sounds like a brake pad backing plate dragging on rotor. Depends on wheel speed, not engine rpm or gear, including N. Even very light throttle will drastically reduce noise. Chassis ear mics on front hub carriers are quiet, but a mic stuck to trans pan loudly picks up this noise. Trans shifts fine. CV's seem fine. Have you heard this noise from Volvo with 4T65e? Thank you.

So Tom, currently rebuilding a 2004 Volvo XC90 4T65E. Your video is great, and the first I've seen that even touches on the Volvo unit. My question is could I run some video/pics by you of the accumulator pin play and the condition of the Channel plate sleeve?
@CurmudgeonTransmission

@@CurmudgeonTransmission after trying to link videos, I came to the conclusion, that if there's doubt in my mind just replace the accumulator pistons and pins and the Channel plate sleeve. So to rephrase my question, where do you recommend I get all three accumulators, pins and the sleeve?
@CurmudgeonTransmission
@CurmudgeonTransmission 3 года назад
@@ericullom8169 Yeah I have had several people try to link videos and it has not worked, that is why I suggested to upload to your channel. It is better to just replace them especially the 3-4 as you have to tear the unit down to get to it.
