The inline 6 found in the 740 turbo diesel is a modular Volkswagen engine found in the rabbit as a 4 cylinder and Audi as a 5. It uses a Bosch injection pump and Garret turbo. This particular example had a 4 speed, push button overdrive manual transmission. In stock form it produces about 100hp and 140 lb-ft of torque. With the additional fueling and higher boost pressure from a larger compressor I’d estimate this car made 120/180 to the rear wheels. This car was my daily driver and project for 3 years. I drove for a few hours after work to buy it in non running condition and spent the next few months sorting out all the issues. The biggest hurdle was making a new engine wiring harness. I think about the wonderful sound this car made all the time, and will find a nicer one to modify in the future.
