It seems like you did yet another video that I was so needing to watch, The trailer test, many thx

I'm wondering if this also happens when using a bike rack on the towing hook (which I would want to use on long vacation trips, where I would miss cruise control the most if unavailable). I don't want to ask of you to go out and buy one of course, but maybe anyone here knows if this applies? Would the car know the difference between towing a trailer vs having something mounted on the hook? This might be something I have to ask at a dealership

I have a bike rack that you don’t connect to the electronics, just the towbar. That works fine.

@@theelectriccarmagazine Are bike racks without electronic non compliant with European rules? I live in Belgium and it is clearly stated they are not allowed on the roads because we need to have the licence plate of the car clearly visible and readable + backlights extensions on the bike rack (EU road law, not only Belgian)
@theelectriccarmagazine
@theelectriccarmagazine 6 месяцев назад
I am not a legal advisor however, in Sweden, bike racks not connected to the electronics id quite common. I have one and have never had issues with police. They are also sold in stores like any other bike rack. Talking about models like Thule Xpress 970 etc.

@@theelectriccarmagazine wow, quite interesting, thanks for the details 😊 In Belgium those models are not available in stores. I guess there are couple laws differences between countries within the EU (economical/political one)

I found out last week testdriving with my small Eriba caravan the ACC is not available. this is horrible and is basically a programming issue. and the stupidest EVER @volvo.... XC40 of the same production month is not having this issue. Volvo needs to fix this asap.

But does the speed limiter still work? That would already be a huge step up for me from no systems at all. Also Volvo Cars said in the official EX30 Facebook group in reply to a post on 13 March that "normal" cruise control is supposed to work, but no further info on how you're supposed to switch to that.. can Pilot Assist be switched off in a menu somewhere (when you're not towing)?
@theelectriccarmagazine
@theelectriccarmagazine 6 месяцев назад
Guess there will be a trailer mode ”later”
@melvinmajor
@melvinmajor 6 месяцев назад
In the settings you can switch from pilot assist to a basic cruise control. I think that you have to switch this manually (or use the shortcut on the steering wheel if you have set it up like that). Could have been a good test to do in the video just to be sure it is expected to do so or if "trailer mode" will fix that later on.
@theelectriccarmagazine
@theelectriccarmagazine 6 месяцев назад
Please let me know where, because I can only fins speed limiter, which is not the same thing. I also can’t find a setting like thst in the manual.
@melvinmajor

@@theelectriccarmagazine I got the car 2 weeks ago, I used the speed limiter only once to see what it is and I might say something wrong but I have the impression it is the standard cruise control in fact. I will retry and let you know if it does that. I can't try for the moment with something towed as I'm waiting the dealership to call me back to do the installation (2 to 4 weeks delay but they wanted to already give me the car and am okay to have this slight delay) 😅
@theelectriccarmagazine
@theelectriccarmagazine 6 месяцев назад
The speed limiter allows you to set a maximum speed, for example 80 km/h and the car won't go above that even if you press the pedal to max. That is probably a way to get around this issue with not having cruise control but it's not the same as a non-adaptive cruise control :)

Thank you for the informative video. However, you did not demonstrate or talk about backing with a trailer. I hope that when you hit the trailer switch, it will then allow you to back it up. I plan to tow my small sailboat so must be able to back up. My Subaru Forester 2020 does have a way to turn off backup safety stuff but not too easy. If you forget or do not get it turned off. It really slams the brakes on when you try to back up. So if you do another trailer test, please test the backup performance also. Thanks
@theelectriccarmagazine
@theelectriccarmagazine 6 месяцев назад
I mention in the video that safety systems in the reat are automatically turned off when you connect a trailer. There was no issues with reversing with the trailer.

I actually agree with Volvo closing off the ACC and Lane Keeping Assist. When your trailer goes “wonky” whilst driving you need to slow instantly and the ACC will keep the speed constant which could cause an accident by trailer getting out of control
@theelectriccarmagazine
@theelectriccarmagazine 6 месяцев назад
In both cases, a driver need to either let go of the gas pedal (without ACC) or break (with ACC) so action from the driver is key here.

That is something I remembered when editing, will make sure to test this later. I would assume it would since it did work when I did my first range test of the EX30 in snowy conditions and the radar got covered. As I said in the video, I plan to do a real consumption test with a larger caravan so I will get a chance to try it out :)

This is realy stupid. :( I drive V90 now, and it disables a lot of assistants, when I attach the trailer, but not the ACC. :( I ordered EX30 recently and this is dissapointing. I do not tow trailers too much, but I use the bike carrier mostly. There would be logical to be able switch the type of attached equipment. I understand the "safety" of disabling the ACC with the trailer, but let's put some "bike holder" mode there... :(

Acc Unavailable because of the weight in the back of the car it looses the acc radar calibration and deactivates it, happens to most B-SUV.

It's a good car but it's not for me. I am disappointed in Volvo for not sending out smaller OTAs solving the most annoying bugs, hasn't been one in 2 months. I feel that the quality of the car doesn't match it's 55,5K euro pricetag and I've actually ordered a BMW i4 M50 instead, price was 69,5K but I get so more much.

In the UK, my ordinary driving licence (issued before 1997) means: "You’re usually allowed to drive a vehicle and trailer combination up to 8,250kg maximum authorised mass (MAM)." For later licences, that weight limit drops to 3,500kg.
@theelectriccarmagazine
@theelectriccarmagazine 6 месяцев назад
I think most countries do 3 500 kg today, at least in Europe. The EX30 is actually really good there, one of the few (only?) EVs that can tow over 1000 kg with standard license :)
