Volvo EX30 review | Will Volvo’s big change shock you? 

Volvo have cracked it with a cool design. Looks very modern.

Bring back buttons!! It reminds me of mobile phones, where the craze was to make them smaller, and unobtrusive. Then one day someone brought out a big phone and we all thought it was great!

We never had a Volvo , we saw this earlier this year long before drive tests and found this thing so cool and convincing, we ordered it blindly.

Looking forward to seeing this car at my dealer, at the end of the month. This is the first electric car I think I could live with. Enjoyed the review.

Great review overall, but I have to ask in regards to the main control screen, what about voice commands do you not understand? Most, if not all of your complaints about searching for controls on the screen can be addressed by simply saying "hey google" followed by the command. If that's too annoying or complicated for you, you can assign a button on the steering wheel for commands, just so you don't have to say "hey google" before every voice command.

Think the extended range probably needed so price jumps quite a bit. Hoping to see the other interiors once cars hit UK & Ireland and reviews come out. Hard to say if i could get used to the Tesla style one screen but love the minimalist design and its a more compact car than any Tesla which is a good thing for me. Will be keeping an eye out for sure

I like it, but the no dash is a no from me. the recycle speckled plastic looks like the inside of supermacs jacks! 😂 Another good review and a nice location nobby! 🫡 Do any other volvo's or polestar have those seats? how do the seats compare to c5x? comfort is king!

Could probably live with most of it but consolidating everything to the screen (which will crash/freeze at some point, however infrequently) and having no driver binnacle is a no-no for me. Driver distraction should not be what we're aiming for in car design.

Mark. Thank you. Excellent review. This is it! What an proper EV should be! Design, materials and quality. The centralisation?? of all the key kit, windows mode etc. Lowers costs and insurance. Repairs etc. Looks amazing. And of course i have to say...Bye Tesla, Hyundai, Kia and iD whatever...... compare this with the bag of spanners Kona you recently tested. Hey Volvo put brake lights where other drivers can actually see them. Funny that? It can be done. Trust Volvo to lead. Perhaps the perfect EV? Not far off! Form an orderly queue those that can. That is one great looking car and i would probably buy one. Only one problem, i live in a flat.

A really nice looking car and if the base model price of €38k after taxes sticks, i can see it selling a lot in Ireland. But boot is tiny though, even with it lowered to the bottom. A sliding seat, like its stablemate, the Smart#1, would improve it and the bits are already made for the Smart, so no development costs. Obviously can drop back seats, but then stuff is on view. Pity it isnt that bit longer, for boot space and leg room. Possibly a better buy than the Renault Megane etech, which is a similar size, and price in base version, but smaller 40kw battery. What is the DCFC charging rate? And the AC rate in the base models?

Are the seats any good?

Missed opportunity to try the voice control for all the functions you were concerned about. Typically Google's voice control is very good.

In hot countries like Australia I wouldn't buy a car without a sunblind for the glass roof...sometimes you just need to get out of the sun ..no matter how high the tint is.

Thanks for the review. The car looks ultra compact, surprising given a dedicated EV platform. Is circa 40k really that much better value than say the obvious competitor, the Model 3 at €43k. Roomier, charging options. A lot more for a Model Y at, €49k. available for collection online, but in s different league, i would suggest.

thanks for another great review. Torn between the standard range version or the extended range....this will be a 2nd car and so will not have need for big distances. Only concern with standard range is the LFP battery and the residual values of the car. Any thoughts @nobbyoncars please?

Would rather have my kia niro, option 4, I get they want to cut down on unnecessary plastic but I think putting everything in a screen is just counterintuitive

The Volvo Ireland website says the price is 45K for the base model, NOT under 40K. What's up with that? I noticed this on several of your videos.

Another excellent and thorough review. This is a brilliant and informative channel. As for the car - all the 'on show' recycled plastic while well intended basically means it's the perfect choice for the virtue-signalling motorist. And what was wrong with giving the driver some dials right in front, to include a speedo?

You dont need 2 screens using more plastic etc yet they put a plastic draw in back???????

Too much screen touching needed & totally unacceptable rear passenger & boot space, for the asking price.

Not even a HUD? Even with just speed + battery percentage? I get cutting costs to lower the msrp but come on Volvo…

So this is Volvo who pride themselves on how safe their cars are and then they discover cost saving measures instead. It is beyond belief that these manufacturers make a car without any customer feedback as to what people actually want. A Speedo above the steering wheel. Grab handles. Climate control dials. But no. Also, just for good measure we will make you press a button on the iPad and then manipulate a button on the steering wheel to change the mirror setting. And god forbid you want to flash someone. And then for good measure you chuck in recycled hard plastic ( that looks like it too) and charge 50,000 euros. I suppose they did t go all the way down Tesla route and remove all the stalks including the bloody indicators. What world do these people live in. Don’t they care about the actual driver. Madness. If this were a true Swedish Volvo instead of a Chinese one it would have a HUD and more physical buttons. Volvo used to stand for safety but not anymore it seems.

Too much reliance on main screen.

Volvo used to be at the forefront of ergonomics , this is diabolical, having everything on a touchscreen is dangerous, I nearly crashed when trying to re-tune a radio ! Ridiculous price for what it is .

Loving looking little car but hugely flawed . It’s very small , has a tiny boot , interior build quality that looks and feels cheap and basically 180 mile range for the standard one . Volvo has the nerve to call this good value at 40 grand 😂😂😂

What's next for Volvo? Joystick instead of the steering wheel to save costs and environment?!!

Ultra cheap pile of recycled trash on the wheels without gauge cluster, speed projection, speakers, armrest and air deflectors for rear passengers, with only two buttons for windows, with IR eyes direction control sensors and dumb tablet in the center where you must look all the time. Genius 😂

It's a good looking car but compromised in many ways. The size, for a Volvo isn't practical and then the controls 🫣. People have been going on and on and on and on about bringing back physical buttons and Volvo have released this. This car would have been a good option for thr older generation but not with all the controls in the screen. I can't work out what they were thinking????
