Thanks Visti for such a joyful demonstration of driving skill and F16 'music' . I drove for 28 years from 1980 to 2008 , mostly Volvo's . I owned a 1988 470 F16 doing Italy and Spain from the UK and the sounds from your video make me wish i still owned it !! The engine has soul !

My father drove such one. Weekly towards Spain, Portugal and Italy loading fruit and vegetables for Sweden and Finland.. No bullshit with discs back in the days… every school holiday I was on the road with him. Wonderful time…
The loud sound is the exhaust brake. It is a steel flap in the exhaust near the turbo. It is air driven by a button on the floor. The exhaust brake sounds louder when its applied because the exhaust is straight through with no silencing. The flap slows the flow of fumes down in the exhaust in turn slowing the engine down slighly. They were never really that effective. Full engine brakes came out on the fh models which were over head cam and were like a jake brake on fodens and ERF'S. Oil pressure would stop the valves opening as much causing alot of engine breaking

Superb truck and the F16 one i used to drive from the Uk to Spain, hills were never a problem, no down changing just push on the pedal a little more, great engine..
this sounds give me great remembers! we had three F16 with strait pipes in our company (1989 - 1998). was a really cool feeling to drive this truck, especially on national roads in RO, BG,... endless power, most spacious cab in this time .... you really had the respect of the other drivers ,-))
Absolutely awesome sound. Theres no better sound to me. I had one of these years back,one of the last made with the 500bhp td163es engine. Would love another. great video man,best ive seen of the mighty F16

we just bought a F16, 1992. year, it haves 500 hp. tell me, are those V8 or inline 6 cylinder? i haven't explore him yet but it haves exactly the same sound like yours and i can't see wich one engine is it, but i'm too lazy to lift the cabin up. :D
Hej Nicolai. Tak for kommentaren, men den lyder jo ikke som en scania.. en scania V8 med rør lyder slet ikke som en R6 med rør, det er 2 forskellige ting, men begge lyder fedt.

Tak tak, ja de er en kanon fed lyd den gamle F16'ener har. Den er filmet i 2001 på en tur fra Glyngøre til stubbekøbing efter en læs frisk fisk der skulle til Thyborøn fiskeauktion, Det er de eneste gang jeg har kørt en F16'ener men heldigvis hade jeg videokammeraet med, jeg har kørt i mange F12'er fra 1988 og frem og det er helt specielt. Jeg har en gammel Volvo F89'er som jeg vil lave en film med men det må blive senere. Hilsen Visti.
Man Visti,what a machine,i,m jalous....i can watch and listen to this over and over again...F 16 forever.Volvo is the best.It sounds so much better than my FH...I had a F12 intercooler from 1988 when i started driving,i loved the truck.I am still a big big F series fan.There aren,t much left in Holland, I would love to drive one again to get the feeling back.Greetings Miquel.

yes Mr. Longline it is the engine brake that sounds like a whistle, the truck has a stright pipe thru the exaust pipe and when the wery powerful exaust brake i on i just sounds so loud. Hi from visti.
No the truck is not mine, i only drowe a trip to load fish with it one time. To bad, i would like it to be mine. But i got it on video and thats great.
Hi cip09sax. The whisteling is from The engine brake, I am not exaktly sure why but Maby because The enginebrake in The F16 is so mutch better than The F12 and with no muffer on.
i drove one years ago,very nice.now i drive an FH440 euro5 and it,s performing very very well.But if it,s possible i want to drive the F16,get the feeling back from years ago.here in holland there aren,t much F 16,s on the roads these days,sadly
Hi dj. The F16 has a inline 6 cyl engine with 16 liter of bore. When it has a free exaust without noise reduktion the engine sounds awsome. Grangratulation with your truck im jalus. Where are you from?
I den by hvor jeg bor stiger det lidt op igennem byen. Så når de store Volvoer og Scaniaer rigtig skal til at trække op gennem byen kan man lige så tydeligt høre det når man sidder ude. Jeg bor lige tilpas fra den store vej til at jeg ikk kan høre bilerne men man kan virkelig høre når der kommer en lastbil til byen der er godt åben i` æ` rør.
Hi Tim. Yes it is the enginebrake that makes the noise wery loud when the muffer is costum made. I se that the odometer is at aprox 54000 km but at the time this time the truck has past one million km once. The truck was delivered to Alfred Pedersen glyngøre from new and for many years i went mostley to Paris france with loudspeakers from Jamo audio locatet in glyngøre Denmark. Later on it went to poland and other easterneurope countries with Danish Meat. The truck is still in Denmark.
