Join me as i take the Volvo FH 540 Log Truck for a test drive.
We will be making our way deep into the forest to collect a load, and demonstrate the Palfinger Crane in action which is fitted with the LH Weigh-Pro system. This system is very good at consistently giving you an accurate reading of the weight you have on each grab with the crane, so can maximise your payload.
It was a very enjoyable day learning all about what these drivers do in the forestry transport business, check it out and let me know what you think.
I also checked out Retro Cannonball Ireland which finished their two day road trip at Bunratty Castle.

Very different to your normal videos! Brilliant stavros! More like this! If you fancy a holiday sometime you could do a video following the life of a high mile truck that’s being exported to somewhere like India or Africa for its 2nd working life.... just an idea 😝

Good show lad! That was good fun, watching you load. Man with a laugh! Just shows how different timber is there to here in South Africa - most of our timber (for pulp and paper at any rate) is hauled by larger hauliers operating 24/7, and then without loading cranes on the trucks. On-board weighing is carried out on the truck chassis (so the billets are weighed as loaded). We also run trucks up to 22m long (conventional = rigid 6x4 with 4-axle drawbar) or 27m (Performance Based Standards), with legal load being around 33t, taking GCM up to between 53 and 57t, depending.

This was a great video to see, stepfather had the same truck with the crane and all I was up on it with him years ago loading trailers in a forest in bellmullet up near mayo some rough terrain you'd be bouncing around the cab, iv also been up the mountains in kerry I can tell you tight roads and a 100ft drop beside you, ya have to take it handy I was passenger to make it worse you wouldn't swing a cat on the road.

Nice to see how things are done in other countries. Are those z-type cranes common in UK and Ireland? Most here in Finland stow the crane on top of load, leaving some room for the boom between the top logs. Also the trailers are quite different, we're allowed to gross 76 tons with usually four axles in truck and five in the trailer.

@@sampsani the maximum length is 34,5m but the weight is still 76 tons unless issued with a special permit. Those hct permits define quite strictly the allowed routes and the weight limit is issued case by case. There was an idea to raise the general weight limit but most bridges couldn't handle the extra weight.

@@p1kkujuha Same problem we have in South Africa. Our standard cap is 57t GCM at 22,5m, and with some Performance Based Standards (inspired by you lads from up there where it's frosty) trucks we're allowed to get up to 27m - the weights are still the problem though.

thats hillarious sutch small forest industry and how you put the loggs bye the road of we did that in sweden the truck drivers would get insane. not to say that swedish trucks takes up to 80-90 tons hahah childrens toys you got there :)

Hi stavros! Whats is the maximum wight and lenghts limits in the uk and Irland? Here in sweden we have 64tons as maximum wight and 24metres as max lengt (25,25) with links)
