We try to start up a pair of Volvo Penta D4 260 engines which have not been used for over 5 years. Will they start ?

My boat has the D4-210 engine - it's really powerful and reassuring. Volvo tell me to push these engines hard from time to time, it does them a power of good.

I bought a 1966 D50 A engine out of a Combine harvester that had been stood for at least 20 years, it fired first half crank over. I have since fitted it into a tractor.

I like the semi- closed loop cooling you have set up on the 2nd engine... will you be incorporating that design when they're in the boat? lol...

What you have to change after 5 years stop? Surely belt oil filters then?

Hi, I have d3 200 , 500 work hours. Turbo has the same sound like this, but my mechanic said, to repaire, or change its. What do you mean about this. Thanks.

I would check the main turbine bearing for any play...

I have two of these in my 10 meter searay.. They are a pain in the arse!! Outboard all the way!!!

Why is that? They are diesel engines

@@mchaves7663 i think its because they are mechanical only. Very little electrics. I made this comment a while ago. Since this comment one blew up!

@@CFC_44Thanks for replying. What about maintenance, are they expensive to maintain? Everybody raves about them. I guess they are better than the petrol ones.

@@mchaves7663 yea all the experts i have spoken to rave about them, we've just had some bad luck. They are diesel and should last a lifetime if they looked after. We picked up a 10m searay a year ago, the guy said the engines only needed a few bits, anyway after 26kEuro fixing them, one blew.. So we are currently looking for another engine. The parts in these engines are very expensive! We also got ripped off for labour.. Ahh bad times!
