The sound of "rattling" from the engine comes from a malfunctioning VVT valve, it regulates the cams timing automaticaly through oilpressure running through it, to fix that VVT valve open the plastic cover covering the belt, there you will see it, to remove it you need a 8 wrench for it's four bolts, to pick the valves compnents apart you need a 10 wrench, pull out the electric solenoid and use a plier to unlock the ring, watch out for the small gasket and spring inside, that taken care of, you pull out the small piston inside , polish that clean, done! then use a spraycan with brakecleaner spray right down a few times and shake it carefully , repeat spray/shake until you can hear the solenoid rattle inside, Now it's Clean Just put all together and back on the enginé, start the car, Enjoy It all takes ablut 15-20 min's Good luck to anyone who needs it😊
6,7l/100km you must have drive slowly :) How will you replace clutch, you will give new dual mass flywheel? You must equip to special tools to mounting self-adjusting clutch.
I replaced the dual mass flywheel to use. I installed the flywheel with volvo 850, one mass. Clutch disc and clutch pressure volvo 850 Therefore impossible that the fault of the dual mass wheel. I'm from the Polish town of Szczecin.
have you fixed the problem? It looks to me that the inlet hose of the throttle body shrinks when you aply throttle. That's strange for a turbo. Especialy since your turbo sounds like it spools up. So the waste gate works. Are you sure about the timming? is it correct? You said that you changed the timming belt but i would check the timming again.
heh.. i will change the clutch soon, so i will let you know, what happened.. :) i was at Leba near Gdansk by Car last week :) .. nice place From Nysa to Leba - average consumption 6,7l/100km .)
Hello , please tell us more about how you get rid of this error . "Added shield to the crankshaft rpm sensor". I do not know much English and did not understand very well what you did. by google translator badly translated into my language . This problem for a long time I have , I changed a lot of parts , but the problem has not disappeared . please help me. Thank you. sorry for my English.
+Slaik Afanasyev here you have photo of the sensor, you will find it where flywheel and clutch is. you must remove it, add a very very thin shield (from metal) around it and put back on and sit should be ok.
+Kostas Joanidis It is necessary to make the gasket between the engine block and crankshaft rpm sensor? I just can not understand the word "SHIELD", or is it understood as containment?
Clean your idle air control its prob running rich and that cel is just low efficiency catalist bank 2 small silver bullet by radiator 2 screws 7 mom disconnect first that clean with carb cleaner I have a v40 and it works great I also tried some electric tape around all of the vacuum lines running around the throttle body give it a try
so it is bad news, if it is not flywheel.. :( yep, second choice was alternator.. if not, what else it can be.. i have the same second car, same engine, same version and i can exchange parts, but i did not find anything yet.. i think it is not common failure, it must be something system error.. where are you from?
Did you have issues while driving? I'm experiencing the exact same thing, and when I'm driving (especially while in 1st gear) the car loses power when the throttle drops. Almost like when you are running out of gas. Also an lamp for engine is lit in the dashboard. Appreciate feedback :-)
no i did not.. partly it was broken coil, but finally, after 8 months i found, that it is caused by electric device switched on.. when is everything swidched off, it is not doing it.. in fact, it is enough when the main cooling ventilator going on, closing window, turn on A/C, seat heating and headlights, it is starting to sway.. when you turn everything off.. it is ok..
Hallo, I have the same problem and im going to became crazy!!! When i read the OBD codes there is just one code P0335 Crankshaft position sensor A circuit? i replace it but it still the same problem.I did replaced the coils and spark plags and did the big service(timing belts, water pump etc.).When i disconect the CKP sensor the problem disapears but it's going to start very bad.I must crank 5-6 sec. more then usualy!
yes.. it is the same problem as i have.. bad engine starting and moreover the engine with disconnected sensor is weaker than normal.. try to turn of all electronic devices, AC, lights and it will probably dissapear.. if it is really the same.. :/
hey, while drivig no.. only on idle.. no connection with running out of gas.. engine light is sometimes on.. thesedays for long time no light, but this "caughing" happens when main vent. goes on, or when you turn on AC, seat heating or rear window heating.. i think, that this malfunction causes bad cogwheel of flywheel.. do not know exactly what, but the owner of one volvo garage confirmed that info.
I unfortunately did not solved the problem. Everything else checked. I do not have a possibility to see the ECU. Maybe you will know something about volvo service share in these models from those years?
I have same problem i was wondering if you could tell me what can i do in order to fix it. This only happen when start it up the engine and then it start to vibrating like yours i don't know if is timing belt or the air flow or air filter please help me on this
have the same problem. but only after driving for a while, and if i rev the engine for a few minutes its gone. had a problem with the engine coolant sensor (temp went to max after just starting the car, disconnected the wire to the sensor, on the thermostat housin and got normal temp again, and the car would run pretty ok) and the camshaft position sensor (used an OBDII), after changing them the problems almost disappeared. it gave me all sorts of strange ECU fault codes, and the lambda warning came on. If the ECU gets bad readings it will adjust the mixture and timing to the wrong values and the car will run like crap.
I have the same problem,my car is 07.2000. This is not a problem with the flywheel, as I mentioned it and the problem remained. I replaced the sensor shaft, camshaft sensor, plugs, ignition wires, new timing belt and continues to be wrong. Try disconnecting the sensor shaft, the engine will run on the camshaft sensor, then will be ok. Probably already checked everything. It only remains to ECU. Our cars are from the beginning of production of the new model. ECU may be underdeveloped or defective.
Also I thought the problem is the flywheel. I replaced and unfortunately it is not. The oscilloscope shows the correct values from the flywheel. The problem occurs as switching on lights, heating glass etc, the same as you were. I thought that the alternator makes electrical noise, I replaced it. But it's not. We have a good mystery ;-)
It's either the ECT ( Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor ) or a bad MAF ( Mass Air Flow Sensor ) . My car revved on it's own and I replaced the ect and was fixed. A bad computer could be a problem too
my car was at the official volvo garage in prague and best serviceman was checking it about 4 weeks. they upgraded the firmware of ECU and it did not helped. they ordered new ECU from sweeden .. not helped too.. it was inspected by oscilloscope and endoscope .. last think is cogwheel of flywheel, from where flywheel sensor is getting values.. strange think is, that this happens only when some strong electric component goes on.. like main or AC vent, rw heating or fog lights..
I have another idea. With me, when the car jerks, blinking check engine light. After to few times, shines is all the time. And lights up, DSA light. Then car working good. Modul DSA disconect shaft position sensor. Maybe module DSA is demaged. It has the function cut-off fuel, so could cause failure of work in the cylinder.
i did not.. no one knows, what is it... i have just eliminated it.. but still, sometimes it happens.. one time a month.. but it is not annoying.. they say, it can be alternator or flywheel.. will replace it soon, so i will let you know.
