So -the millennials hate my 2012 Volvo S60 only because it does not have a back up camera. Time to address the issue. We install a back up camera to work in the dash display.. Purchase link was from AliExpress - www.aliexpress...
I wanted to thank you for the detailed instructions, I have completed the installation in a 2014 s60 t5, and I have a couple of suggestions. First, the power supplied by the rear light alone is not enough. The camera powered for around 20 secs and then it died. The solution is to add a relay using the back fuse box Another suggestion is to ground everything properly, the unit was giving me some lines in the display. The solution is to grab a wire brush and clean the ground locations directly to the chasis. Hope this helps somebody
Just for a heads up for anyone else doing this in the future, at 18:45 you see him wiring the red wire to the additional one that he added (the white wire) which is wired to the front. You do not need to buy an additional wire like he did in the video. To make your life easier, wire/splice/solder the red wire from the camera to the red wire sticking out from the yellow rca cable carrying the video signal. On the other end of the yellow rca cable, there is a red wire that sticks out as well. The manufacturer added a power wire that is also inside the yellow RCA cable to make your life easier when connecting everything. You can also use a t tap to hook the black (neutral) wire from the camera to the black (neutral) wire going to the license plate light which may assist with the issues that @javpalacios1 was having regarding things not being grounded properly.
Excellent helpful video. I've just fitted the same camera from Aliexpress to my 2013 V60 plugin hybrid. It's an easy car to drive but fills marked out parking spaces so this will improve that. The cable from the dash to the camera was not long enough so I extended the RCA cable and the 12v cable. The biggest difficulty is unclipping all the plastic parts without breaking them. Gordon's video helped enormously. They supply two cables which plug into the blued board but only the VGA one was needed for my installation of a simple rear camera. There is a 360 wire but I don't know whether it will work with the existing cameras for BLIS and lane management. The guide lines move and the view shows a trailer hitch about 4 inches behind the tow ball.
Wow. Nicely done. Personally, knowing my lack of skill, I would have checked the camera loooong before putting all the trim back on, but you made it work.
Thanks man! Got the exact same kit now lying in my garage for 2 years as I was a bit scared of trying to build it in due to the crappy "manual" that came with it, but this really helps! I'm going to try it out soon!
Gordon - I watched your install video. But one question, why did you not use the optional adapter that is on the Amazon site? Cause I noticed the plug in the back of the screen matched the optional adapter on the Amazon site.
hello Gordon , nice work . one thing don't add up, the kit you showed from AliExpress don't match the kit you dissemble the LCD screen , where are the panels you installed in the LCD? and in the end of the video you dont show what dod you connect to the car original Harness.. one more thing , where did that pink 12V cable came from and where did you connect the RCA camera that came from the trunk.. its not clear.. from the KIT harness ?
