Whatever you mentioned aren't big issues. If you get Regen messages a lot, I suggest replacing both Inlet and outlet Nox sensors, cuz most of the time they won't give you codes. Good luck ✌
This is best review of a Volvo D13 I've ever seen. Being that Volvo puts out a lot of major machinery from excavators to Prevost busses, it gives me hope if I ever consider living with one of these machines the Volvo engine might not be the life changing detriment it has been portrayed. Those issues for a Volvo D13 with 3/4 of million miles are fairly minor. I'd expect to change all the belts, hoses, and water pump during a major service way before this many miles. The stories I've heard is the Volvo D13 after 200,000 miles starts to have nitpicking reliability issues with sensors and wiring harness that frequently takes it off the road with significant wait times on parts. The other issue is its lower fuel millage compared to a Detroit Diesel DD13 and Paccar MX13. The DD13 is at the top of reliability with reasonably fast parts availability. The stories on MX13 is it can start having issues from day one, has many issues after 200,000 miles and major issues after 400,000 miles with long wait times on parts and few people that know the engine. The Cummins X15 maybe the most liked engine with best drivability, good reliability, high service availability, fast parts availability (pricey), but not a standout in fuel millage, but better than the Volvo D13.
Currently driving a 2000 classic, gonna be becoming an owner op sometime soon and I really love the 780s but man things like this are making the choice really hard, almost wanna get another classic myself and deal with the horrible turn radius and not as much comfort lol
Its a big problem.i just bought one .the guy who had it took it to the dealer n paid almost 5 grand to replace everything.n btw it’s my first truck ever so I’m pretty much brand new on this .good luck to all drivers 👍
volvo engine itself is a good engine, i have a d12 about to hit a million and never had any problems, it's the accessories around the engine that will get you, and pray to God you don't brake down in the middle of nowhere
@@jaimecruz5367 i bought a 2011 that had 684000 on it. I have had it 8 months and now has 712000. Engine has been good but its been a costly beast to the point i have made no money and have lost my house. Total financial chaos
Hey I got a Volvo t630. You can buy a ton of stuff from other shops at 1/3 of the price that Volvo dealer sells. Just call dealer for part number. Then call other shops. There's only a few things that Volvo dealer really needs to do themselves. I bought 15feet of the heater hose made from silicone at $6 a foot from a shop. Volvo dealer sells it at $18 a foot. All air hose and quick connects can be bought cheaper too. One 5/8 quick connect at Volvo dealer sells $48. I bought at a shop exact same for $12. Got check who manufacturers the stuff.. if it's not Volvo then by it from shops not dealer
I have a 2005 international 9400i with a c15 cat acert engine with over 1.4 M miles. It's one of the most reliable engines I've seen. I've had to change the water pump, starter and the alternator(a couple of times) and besides that, nothing else broke on it. I am so glad I don't have a Volvo.
It seems Volvo and Mack have their own sizing for hoses, lines and other replacement items, I have a 2009 Mack with the MP8 motor the same as the Volvo D13 and trust me they have regen issues both with DPF and DEF as well lots of electrical issues.
Someone changed your rad and both coolant pipes which they took off later failed... no surprise. Blew out? Clip missing.. Those upper rad hoses do fail alot.
thank you for video. I'm checked everything what you said anyway liking antifreeze. I have 2016 volvo d13 500hp. I change radiator, water pump, cooler tank. it's still liking and don't see where's going cooling.
Do you check a antifreeze filter? I had a leak that I could not find then found a leak. Problem was in antifreeze filter it was dripping antifreeze a gallon per trip
check the shutoff valve for the coolant filter, its a common spot for it to leak because of the o-ring. looks like a t right above the coolant filter on right side of engine. also go get a pressure kit, pressurises the sytem and you can find the leak then
Usually problem with antifreeze happens when the thermostat gets bad and water pump coming to end 😎 my friend was having problems same and his radiator blow up he changed and he had problems with temperature always above so we start talking about truck and he told me that somebody told him probably have big problem with engine and I told him go by water pump and thermostat because it’s expensive to change at the dealer I did for him take about hour 👌 and also if anybody have problems with to much air in tank that’s thermostat
My friend. DEF problem is not just Volvo problem. It's a big problem for the whole trucking industry. I've been stuck on road 3 times,on a 2016 truck. Because of the fucking Def.
Thats why so many of those suckers are sitting on the sales lots! Waaay to many cheap plastic parts. Change all your hoses to silicone hoses and replace those cheap'azz clamps with the constant tension clamps. I love the 780 VNL but only with a Cummins and a 13spd. Delete all that crap off of there and she run like a champ! I hear Mack bought out Volvo or has majority shares or sump'em like that. There's talk of mack engines showing up in some Volvo's. Need to junk those D13's any way. That DEF is eating them up too! Good luck with your truck my brudda! Your at the "For Sale" sign in the window mileage about now so definitely good luck👍
Mack has not made a engine from 07 on in thier trucks. They are all Volvo engines.. Mack replacing a Volvo engine? You have to be joking? They gave up like Cat.
Jose Hernandez On the bottom of the thermostat housing. It’s located on the right side of the engine in the front on the bottom of the thermostat housing
stop buying Def at the pump it has moisture in the tanks which causes the Def crystallize and f up your system buy it in the box and your probably blowing hoses driving up hills with ac or heater running boom just blow the hose damn
Looks like you still have all original parts since that truck been made. Egr cooler, turbo, venture pipe. If you still have all regen problems all these parts could be a reason you have regen issues.
I have 2013 make a tiking sound on we’re the left side and comes and goes sound like air compressor whent it kicks on to load the air the tanks is this normal I have other Volvo do the same noise
just be happy you are not driving the international pro star series with the maxxforce engine, the egr burns the coolant and the hose you said blew on the side of your engine are metal on the internationals and they rust out really bad. i like the volvos, easy to work on and everything is neatly put in the truck not crammed in like some others. but out of all the ones we have none of our volvos are past 630k miles yet. just have to keep them maintained is all, just like a car. how many miles do you go in between routine service?
As a diesel tech on this specific truck, engine, and trans I have issues with your "leaks". The coolant level sensor is loosely mounted inside a dry well inside the expansion tank. So replacing the sensor doesn't fix a leak. As for the steam lines leaking or breaking, that would've been the fault of the previous tech who did the repairs on the radiator. Those lines shouldve been replaced with the radiator. To be frank the first year that valve cover was in service was 2015. So let's assume you bought a '15my in 2014 your video was posted in 2016, so thats 375,000mi /yr. that engine paint is factory perfect. Even the paint on the EGR Cooler / cooler to Venturi boot still has factory paint. The EGR temp sensor is factory, as is the EGR Diff pressure sensor... and the upper hose pipe section has the factory alignment marks.... I dare say this engine does not have that kind of mileage, or age, or issues. Tomorrow I will attempt to read that S/n in the video to get the vehicle service history, age, etc.
Hi, I got the same truck , the differential pressure sensor gets some clean water inside I change the egr, egr valve , 7 injector, but still gets water, even mechanics from Chicago don't know what to do, Ken somebody help me,thanks
I have volvo 2012 d13 My oil levl go down and the mecanic fixed and now my speed go down And I think my turbo its not working I dont ear my tunbo sounds.maybe this is the problem.
Buy a Scania with a V8!!! verry nice sound and power like hell!!! Ohhh, never breaks down!!! The majorety go's over a million kms WITHOUT engine rebuild!!!
D13 is the worst engine after Maxxforce and Paccar MX. Not a lot of shops knows how to fix them, and the problems arise every week. I have 370 k miles on mine and it cost me 32000$ in repairs in 7 month. Still constant problems, check engine light is on ... basically this truck just makes monay to feed dealler and mechanics, and just complete money pit for me , this is whi I went and bought 30y.o Peterbilt 379 with N14 to replace 2015 Volvo
not the engines fault, its the epa with there regulations. i bet all the truck engines out now, even the MAXXFORCE would run great and last if they did not have the def or the regeneration systems
from what our supervisor of the fleet says they are a lot better than international maxx force, i can say that they are a better running truck but to say its un reliable and expensive is not entirely true. peterbilt is the most expensive to run if your going by cost of maintenance, most of there parts are far more expensive. ill put it like this, volvo is like a gmc and peterbilt is like a ferrari. but that also depends on the engine and drive train choice you go with. in this day and age all trucks kinda suck because of def, it kills the truck way before it should hurt it, roughly 800k and its dead. old trucks without regen and def go over a million i have seen. fuel mileage is about the same as all the others
bergerk20 I guess your are right, I don't have experience with MAXFORCE, the international that I drove was ISX, with EGR deleted and It was a good truck they sold it with 700.000 or something and never left me down.
These trucks are such piles of Crap. We run put of Parma and even the grab new truck has coolant leaks. Egr and injector issues. How want to get rid of all seven of his
Volvo is junk. I've owned my 2015 vulva for 5 years. Junk. New I shift transmission, head gasket leaks, 8 new injectors, rocker arms l are in need, constant coolant and air leaks because the whole truck is fitted together with made in China plastic connections. The made in China coolant tank will leak and they aren't cheap. In fact everything on the Volvo is very expensive, and everything on it will break except the motor bottom end. I gotta admit d13 has a strong bottom end, but a real crappie top end. Oh and I always replacing emmision parts. Truck has 1.2 million kms
stop buying Def at the pump it has moisture in the tanks which causes the Def crystallize and f up your system buy it in the box and your probably blowing hoses driving up hills with ac or heater running boom just blow the hose damn
