I've been waiting for some type of transmission upgrade video for our P3 S60's, and I'm so glad you made this video. The lack of transmission upgrades for these cars are what has kept me from modifying mine, but I believe you have eased my mind. I hate that it was WAY more headache for you than it had to be, but at least you are happy with the finished product. Can't wait to see some drag times for sure. Awesome video! Thanks for taking the time to make this video and issue the warning about Level 10 customer service. As far as the sound and shift speed of the transmission with the new valve body, it sounds the same as my XC60 T6. Granted my XC60 is stock other than a K&N air filter, maybe once you start modding the transmission will shift slower in order to protect the components. Eventually I will get a tune, downpipe and cat back, etc and I'll keep this upgrade in mind for the future.

I've been catching most of your videos from the start. Those quicken shifts sound amazing! Glad it finally worked out for you. I've owned two S60R. A 2004. Then a 2006, which I still own. As a really fun daily with driving modes, it's quite entertaining. Your red S60 T6 is superb! Question: With all the time, money and love invested..would you say it's worth it over simply acquiring a true S60 Polestar? Which is my next adventure.👍

If i would go back and do something different i would get the 2015 or 2016 s60 t6 6cyl Polestar instead of the rdesign but if you cant afford actual s60 6cyl polestar then rdesign is next best thing. The polestar comes with alot of the upgrades already that i had to buy separately

@@BuiltForSpeed Thanks! That's what my conclusion told me. T6 Rdesign is closes to a true Polestar. Money is always a factor for me. But, you have improved your red R-design to something Extra ordinary!! When you complete your upgrades, drop on a set of Polestar rims? I would. I'll be watching!👍👍

I have a 2013 volvo s60 r design with the tf-80 sc transmission. I have a 3.0 turbo. I just removed my valve body and I can confirm it looks just like the valve body he is holding 5mins into the video.

you know you've cost me alot of money watching your channel! i've done many of the upgrades you've shown,including Rob Hilton stage 2 and now just ordered level 10 valve body.Pat claims to have sorted out matching right vb,also told him about your youtube site,he was interested,and going to watch.ifyou have part# for the valve body gasket you damaged,and tourque spec's for the vb bolts i would be in your debt,thanks for your videos

Hi, lol Yea everything is expensive that for sure. You will have one fast car:) the gasket that i broke on valve body part # is 30735184. And torque spec for the bolts that hold the valve body is about 8ft lbs... and thanks for mentioning me to them again i doubt they will do anything they ripped me off i was supposed to pay 1200 and i ended up paying around 1800 for everything. If i had to go back i wouldn't do it i would just change oil every 20-30k miles and it would be fine.

I have a MXDM Suzuki Swift Sport (stock aside of lightweight wheels and tires) with that very same 6 speed auto from Aisin, I have to tell you, I upgraded the battery for a Lifepo4 one from Antigravity Batteries... saved 8.5 Kilos off of the vehicle curb weight and for some reason the Gearbox does have some sort of crisper response, albeit without the mod you showed us I have compared to another vehicle equipped same year and trim with a Lead/acid battery and a fellow peers have determined it's not a placebo effect... Why don't you try swapping in a Lithium battery and tell us how it went? Just saying. Thank you for the heads up on the crappy service from those guys.

Line Pressure increased with less modulation, why could you not do that with software? Beware of clutch wear, more oil changes with a good synthetic. Great job, love your Vids,

This will help with clutch wear because if the clutches don't get enough oil fast enough that what causes them to wear out quickly specially when you have bigger power. I already have polestar tuning on it it still wasnt enough. But when they upgraded the solenoid internals and upgraded some parts in the valve body itself it made huge difference.

Back in 2007 era on VS you can find multiple reviews on Level 10 by people with bad experience, bad customer service etc... its 2020 and it seems like that hasn't changed. Messed up, i would have been pissed. the customer isn't always right but it seems like they were in the wrong. should make it right and people will speak highly..

So lucky find a review about level 10 , my prediction was , as a Bmw guy try to wondering is it worth it to spent around 3k to upgrade my gm4l30e ( a 4 speed auto ) i would say from the way drive you did , for sure not good as Porsche pdk ( best duo clutch ) but it possibly close with Bmw DCT and their favor ZF8 It just my worry on how strong is it ? 😂 i don’t wanna spend that much end up blow up barely 20k miles If it last like 120k or more I would say I’m interested

The valve body is kind if the weak part of the transmission so by changing it you make it stronger and you get faster shifting.

Do you know if they have a manual transmission build that would work for the P3's? I know the c30 had a 6 speed manual, but not sure if that transmission could be uitlized to fit into a s60 t5 or not.

2011 s60 t6 74k KM,Im suffering from N to D harsh shift , and 3rd to 2nd hard downshift . Other than that gear works perfectly , will this upgrade fix my issue , i guess the issue i have is more related to valve body. Also during my research i saw SONNAX upgraded body valves over eBay with lifetime warranty i guess i would go with this approach if this really help eliminating my occasional harsh shifts. Other shifts up or down my car shifts like a star this is the only complain i have . Planning to do oil flush and see if thats make any difference just waiting my vida to arrive.

may i ask, the standard AWTF-80 SC can handle about 450nm, as said in Wiki. But with this upgrade, do you know how much torque it can handle? thanks

I had 600nm at wheels torque with stock transmission for about a year it handles it like a champ. From 2012 and newer the transmission is tf81 volvo upgraded the valve body and torque converter from factory. Its much better transmission then the regular tf80

When you are setting the level after you filled it you have to have engine running at operation temp in park

@@BuiltForSpeed Thank you for the information. My father's '14 V60 project is inspired by yours and BlueBeastV60. A Stage 3 build is currently being set up with pretty much the same upgrades as yours + a bigger turbo and better injectors, but without the transmission valve body for now (as it'd bee too expensive and inaccessible in Brazil), just an aftermarket cooler. We expect around 380whp but the torque will be limited in order to preserve the transmission.

@@lucasmigliaccio9680 the torque could easily be pushed to 500ft lbs (650-700)nm to the wheels without issues with cooler. And my local tuner shop said this engine can easily handle 600whp

Wow, that's a LOT of power. Good to know that. The car will be used very little and we will track it like 1 or 2 times in a year, so maybe we can push the horspower and torque a bit up. The turbo we're using is a rebuilt OEM FoMoCo K16 with K24 (if I'm not mistaken) upgraded Cold Side rotor, so the compressor goes from 62mm all the way up to 71mm.

Yes you will need bigger turbo to push over 400whp this one you will have around 380-400 with good tuner

They raise the oil pressure in valve body mechanically which prevents clutch burn and also results in faster shifting

If you have a 2014 this would be worth while. If you've got a early 2011 it will be better to leave it alone. The transmissions got worse as the vehicles got older in transmission delay

In 2012 and newer vehicles the updated the transmissions and in 2014 they added the electronic fast shifting from 1st to 3rd gears.

Interesting stuff. I have an Alfa 159 with TF80, and shifting speed is not great. 120 000kms. I wonder if changing oil would change anything in shifting performance? Does TF81 shifts quicker and can I upgrade my Alfa with that?

Volvo updated the tf80 transmission in 2012 then updated it again in 2014. They kept the name the same tf80 but in reality its tf81

@@thejoseandresshow um yes it does. It mostly affects the transmission. The Rdesign and polestar come with polestar transmission tune from factory all others don't. It adds abit of power but the tune has alot to do with transmission tuning.

@@BuiltForSpeed Maybe it changes shift points but that´s it. I´ve searched a lot in the forums and there is no shifting speed difference with the transmissions in the models from 2011-2013 at least. Maybe in yours it does, because it has that rapid shift parts for 1, 2 and 3rd.

@@thejoseandresshow you can even talk to hilton he told me same thing it does change alot in the transmission tuning. I dont know exacly what but it does. For a transmission to shift faster you need to upgrade it mechanically. All the tune does it changes the shift points if i remember correctly you can't tune the transmission to shift faster if its not mechanically capable. The upgrade that i got it made the shifts faster when i command the transmission to shift and its supposed to be able yo handle bigger power.

Did you ever drive a 15-16 Polestar? I don't really notice any delay between shifts in mine but the smoothness just really isn't there. The car bucks upshifting and downshifting which kinda bugs me, even though it does it really quickly. Like for a non-dual clutch, last gen, this auto is quick. It feels like the ZF6 Auto from my old 335i when I bought a TCU tune for it, quick shifts but jerky. Anyway so basically do you think this would be worth it in a Polestar if I'm already happy with the shift speed just not the smoothness? Also this company really sucks. Pisses me off too man, you should post up on the Volvo groups and we can collectively complain to the company about your experience.

The polestars have same exact transmissions and as the r-designs have and same exact transmission tune. They are slow shifts atleast to me after i drove lancer evos with dual clutch transmissions and other fast shifting cars like bmws and audis...it took almost full second for shifts to complete which cause the rpm to drop more then i would like it to. Now its not even half a second shifts. Very quick. This upgrade helps with rough/jerky shifting and increases the shift time and its upgraded to be more durable with higher power.

Hello. unfortunately I have gearbox problems. After all the tuning, gear 1, 2, 3 is ok, but gears 4, 5, 6 sometimes slip through very often. what do you think what would be best now? have the whole gearbox overhauled or would the newer gearbox tf81 fit what you have?

@@franjov70t62 i see that still the old transmission. Volvo upgraded the transmission in 2012 then again in 2014. I would try sending your valvebody to transmission shop to get it converted to high pressure valve body. That will help if you haven't destroyed your clutches yet.

@@BuiltForSpeed I have an inspection at Volvo in about 2-3 weeks and can then report more. but it is possible that the clutches are through. therefore the question of whether it would not be better to convert the old to the newer transmission. where is all the difference from the geared year 2010 to 2014? As far as I've read, yours is from 2012 with a reinforced converter and you had the valve bodies rebuilt?

@@franjov70t62 from factory volvo reinforced the torque converter and made the valve body stronger in 2012 and in 2014 they added fast shifting from 1st to 3rds gears and made few other things stronger. If you do end up changing transmission i would try to get atleast the one from 2013 volvo. Im not sure if the 2014 will be compatible but if it is i would get that.

I mentioned it in the video it should of cost me 1200 originally but they ripped me off with everything shipping and stuff i paid about 1800. I explained everything in detail in the video.

I would atleast add another cooler like i did. Its not very expensive and just change oil every 20k miles drain and fill. And you will be fine.

Sonnax kit? They modified the original solenoids and modified the inside of valve body as well. I should of done some research about level 10 before i went there. Because im pretty sure i could of found solenoid internal upgrades and internal valve body upgrades and done it myself but... too late.

You’ve don business with garbage ppl and it’s important to know who they are ! You should always mention the company’s name so other ppl don’t get screwed, plus honestly I don’t think it was worth the stress , I changed my transmission oil and it’s not much slower then your right now. So .. for me $1600 for all this crap ? No thank you.

Yeah i agree if you dont need it don't get specially if you don't have finances. I did mention the companies name: "Level 10 transmissions".
