Diesel electric is an objectively superior solution to pure electric. • No need to spend trillions worldwide to adapt infrastructure, (i.e. add power plants, charging stations, etc) • Electric motors are more powerful and more reliable to a mind blowing degree compared to pure diesel. One truck could be used for 3 times the amount of work before needing to be replaced or repaired. •A resonably sized diesel generator would eliminate any range anxiety, and would take a truck thousands of miles on one tank as opposed to the 600-800 they get now. • Large batteries would eliminate the need to idle the truck or use an APU • If you were the first to develop a road ready diesel electric truck you would absolutely own the market before Freightliner could even pull up their pants. Saving companies millions a year on fuel, potentially bringing down worldwide shipping costs, and redicing emissions to a small fraction of what it is today I feel as if I'm in a room with people twice as smart as me who have never heard of a train. Why is electric being pushed so hard when after any thought or expert opinion it should've been crossed out at the drawing board? Also it's much easier and cheaper to control the emissions on smaller power plants owned by individual citizens rather than massive ones owned by billionaires.

How long to charge it? Its obviously take way longer than hydrogen / gass. Why not just change the battery while offloading? That would greatly cut the the idle time of the truck

Takes a few hours, 300 km for one charge is unreasonably low for otr work or really any work in America. Also infrastructure problems. It would costs millions upon millions just to upfit these facilities with chargers and batteries and power plants to charge so many trucks at once. To be honest electric is a really really stupid solution when diesel electric has been used in trains for numerous decades.

Also I'm not some diesel obsessed change hater. Trucking profits almost completely hinge on fuel prices, and electric motors are objectively superior in reliability and power. If you were to throw a large diesel generator to charge the batteries you could get thousands of miles of range on one fuel tank (opposed to about 600-800), you wouldn't have to spend any money changing infrastructure at all. And one truck would last at least double the current lifespans of diesel trucks with much less maintenance.

Agree, i really love the idea of electric cars, but trucks? not so much. one exception if they're totally automated, then the downtime for charging would be fine. but at that rate, just use trains :(

Nope. "It's about a 70 kilometer trip each way, and we'll probably end up charging it in between. So when it's loading or offloading, we can have a top up charge."
