Gales is a top tier player. Great performance here. I really love when a great player does a cover like this-it's an interpretation, not a straight up cover. Some of the negative comments leave me shaking my head. The jazz and classical tangents he goes off on are really cool and that's what I love about this and when he does guitar show booth demos that you don't hear on his albums.
@@handmadehearts Jimi would be impressed. He couldn’t play this way. Jimi is said to have played “upside down and backwards” because he turned the guitar backwards and strung it upside down, so it played like a normal left handed guitar. So in reality it wasn’t as big of a deal as it sounds. He basically just played left handed made out of a right handed one. But this guy, WOW! He’s truly playing upside down and backwards!! He doesn’t have it restrung. It’s truly upside down! It’s still in the right handed configuration. So he truly is playing upside down and backwards! My fingers can’t even comprehend it. 😂😂
I've now watched many many videos of Eric playing live and what I find incredible is that he always appears to be improvising a lot of the time but he not only never has a note out of place but his timing is perfect - that's the really astonishing thing. Many other guitarists can improvise but only Gales gets the timing so perfect. It's just so satisfying! You rock Eric, please come to the UK soon?!!!
folks are colcor blind and P kiss asses these days, ever heard of Steve vai, john McLaughlin, AL dimeola ed van halen. slash ,Eric johnson Neil shoan Randy hansen..This guy is light years behind and a new bee. how utterly ignorant to put this mediocre player on that level just go to youtube and punch in 7 year old plays Hendrix.. smoke this guy
Bobby DeVito would love you to check out my 16 year old grandsons you tube. He plays acoustic mainly but did a version of voodoo child ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0kphIKODzhg.html
This is one of the best versions on RU-vid, it's the total spirit of Jimi, having fun and doing his own thing - which in this case is Eric's thing. It's got so much groove, it's like a breath of fresh air. Keep on being you, man. It's inspiring.
My sweet assed jelly beans, he's fucking awesome!!! Such showmanship, artistry, vibe, interaction, love and truth. You're a blessing to this world, Eric. Y'all are just so RARE and...just, yeah. Thanks, guys!
BADASS! With elements of jazz, classical, Indian, and I think I even heard a few bars of "Kashmir"! Eric is all about improvisation & genre blending. Incredibly however, he's doing it all upside-down & backwards (When you're a kid growing up without a lot of scratch, again you must IMPROVISE!) It fascinates me to watch self taught guys like Eric and (one of the "Three Kings"), Albert King, play this way so effectively! This isn't (by far) Eric's best video for guitar mastery, though. You guys check out his others, as well! He's a fretboard wizard when in the zone!
Seriously? He lacked the fretboard skills to play it even remotely as it was intended, (like Jimi or SRV) so he put his own spin on it. The result: It was difficult to sit in the audience for 13 fucking minutes of this.
Saw him when he came to Maryland the guy is incredible if you ever get a chance to see him please do so he puts on a hell of a show those facial expressions gets me every time,,
I mean this guy is good, but he seems like he's on another level for this performance. I don't know if it's the sound & great production but this is definitely one of the best quality recordings I've seen of him and Geez, this audience was lucky man. He kills it! Awesome stuff.
INCREDIBLE! I guess reincarnation does exist...welcome back Jimi Hendrix..the world missed you...Eric Gales you are awesome!! And tha band rocked too!! 🎸 Legends Never die they are only REBORN! Amazing!
The incredible Eric Gales! Eric Gales... • He's blistering hot at the Blues. • He’s super-human when he Rocks. Eric Gales’ guitar screams a vicious VOODOO child - rolls over a beautiful Beethoven. Eric wields his instrument like THOR'S HAMMER an’ calls down the thunder of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" and back to a scorching Hendrix so powerfully played, that as in true heavy-metal mythology, the lightning-licks could ignite volcanos, blast the moon out of Earth’s orbit, and rise up the four horse-men of the rock-a-pocalypse! The incredible Eric Gales! Yes indeed. Eric can play guitar like a cosmos striding super-hero right out of a Jack Kirby comic-book. Eric Gales is the answer to; "What if the "Silver Surfer played guitar".
I just saw him Friday night at "Guitare en Scène" festival, performing after Joe Satriani. Eric is so amazing and full of surprises. Unfortunatelly, no surprise from Joe ;-(
Yeah I always go to a concert for "surprises". not for the music. are you that out of it.???? that shows some real brilliants on your statement. another mil lineal probably HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
If he had sold his soul, he'd be way more famous. That's talent mixed with practice, mixed with dedication. He's a good guy, I hope he gets more fame, but not too much.
After watching many videos of Eric I am in awe of his talent. That being said, this a classic Hendrix tune. I just wish he would have stayed within the essence of the song a lot more here and let more of the familiar Hendrix notes to ring out. Great playing no doubt but I have to admit that Stevie Ray Vaughan's covers are still my favorites. Don't hate me. 😆
I think the fact that it’s Voodoo Child takes away from the song a little. It’s more like an Eric Gales composition. Damn good composition though! I am NOT complaining
This is Eric Gales dicking around, without a plan, with some samples of Voodoo Child. It bears little resemblance to the masterpiece by Jimi, later honored by SRV. It's lame.
Seth Rosenbloom This performance is Gales masturbating with the guitar with some random Voodoo licks tossed in. He's a congenial bloke but this is poor. Truth be known, Hendrix' studio version is probably the definitive version, hendrix himself never matched it live. Other players with worthy versions are SRV's from Nashville '87, Austin City Limits '89.
Uh sorry but use your ears. Sure if you consider the only version to be the original this is pretty far off but there's nothing all that interesting about not adding your own spin. Sounds like you love SRV which is fine but this is a great version.
Seth Rosenbloom Real musicians recognize that certain songs have a basic structure, that, even when improvising, one still roughly comes back to. Eric does not, and covers for lack of true musicality and skill with overuse of effects and deviation way off the path. Essentially, it's as if he's playing to amuse himself. If he was playing with Clapton, Guy, Beck, etc, they'd probably not ask him back. Rather than simply viewing You Tube videos, you might benefit from delving more deeply than simply viewing You Tube videos and deriving your own opinions. Perhaps listening to improvisation by Terry Kath, Roy Buchanan, or even your hero Jimi would give clarification. You probably think Justin Bieber is equivalent to McCartney in songwriting.
