Thanks for the vid. Why is there less printing surface with a top mount vs the normal voron way? Top mount should in theory be better because the motor is close to the mounting point and that should give better balance although I'm not quite sure because the center point of the whole toolhead is where the regular voron mouts it.
The stock voron tool head is front mounted. All of the tool head components sit front and top, it has no x beam rear overhang. The loss is from rear x beam tool head over hang pushing the x beam forward so it does not collide with the rear motor mounts. Overall the stock voron tool head is a behemoth of weight and size. The weight improvement and minimal loss of print space is acceptable for the massive gains in performance and top mount tool head options.
The only bad thing I can think of with rails on the top is dust settles on those surfaces on my machine more than any other place. So you could get more junk into the bearings over time. Maybe it would take years for that to be a true issue, but my personal observation. Also, why not put klicky on the other side?
I don't seem to have any issues with dust. As it's a enclosed unit. I like RatRig and VzBot how they have top Mount X rail with a nice center balance of weight distribution of the end carriage. Klicky probe can be placed anywhere, I just placed it clear of the cable chain and opposite the purge bucket and close to the z end stop. Both will be obsolete soon the the Beacon Probe that's on his way.
@@jc84com Mine's in a basement with air filtration, but still gets a dust build up after a few months. I print more PLA than abs so the panels are open more. I didn't notice that about ratrig or vzbot printers. Nice to learn something new each day.
Looking how the 2.4 was designed as a flying gantry. Having a top center umbilical and top feed filament not idea for this. I see why the filament comes in the back wall for the base configuration. With a top mount tool head there is more of the tool head on the back of the X axis beam. Having the Z chain under the Z axis is most ideal to maximize space... However my early designs required the whole Z gantry to sit lower because the tool head nozzle would sit much higher on the X axis and this would crush the Z axis cable under the gantry... I ended up getting a UFH dragon and that has a very long heat block. Extending my nozzle bellow the gantry more...So technically now I could have kept all the cables under the Z axis gantry because they wont be crushed anymore and ran a umbilical from the back like how everyone does. The change is done and wont be going back anytime soon.
