@@madeintexas1213 I bought the Vortex. It’s marginal on differences. I won’t use it 300 times a year, to find that “little bit” of difference worth my while. I use a chainsaw a ton - so I bought a very reliable professional: since I use it so much, and find “that little bit” of difference very worthwhile.
Viper PST is fully suitable for 99.99% of CONUS users. Save the money and buy the ammo to TRAIN. Tacticool guys fail to realize that "operator" equipment does not make them better shooters, it just makes them look stupider when they fail to perform in front of actual operators. Perfect training makes perfect.
THIS has to be the MOST THOROUGH Comparison I've ever seen! Thank You for your HOURS invested, diligence, accurate testing basis and variety of environments! Amazing Work; PST it is!
Excellent review. I was drooling over the Razor. This video makes me feel like I didn't just "settle" for the viper i ordered today. Made me feel good. Thank you!
Honestly it's a good thing I found that post after recording most of the footage. Otherwise I might have thought the video wasn't worth making since Vortex themselves said what I wanted to.
Man I am so thankful for the time and effort you took to take a deep look into these scopes. Not only do you help us learn, but you help us make a well informed decision. I was really planning on going for the Razor especially for the cool color but I cannot deny the quality of the PST for the price point. It was such a shock to see the clarity of the eye sight chart at 50 yards. Thank you!
Thoroughly demonstrable and qualifiable comparison 👏🏾. Best I’ve heard or seen. I have a strike eagle 1-6x I snagged for $300 and after this review I’m questioning my choice 🤦🏾♂️. It is my introductory LPVO.
I was one of the poor souls who ordered the Viper PST Gen II the first week of July. The estimated ship date is 9/30 😭. I have played with the razor at my lgs, never the viper. Excited to get my hands on it. This review made me even more excited. Thanks man!
you nailed this video, this has every bit of information needed to make an informed choice, with linked sources and no fluff, audio and video are both great for a small channel too other a little reverb from no sound dampening but thats picking nits, keep it up and youll go far bud, thanks for the show and tell.
I am the proud owner of two PST's. One for my 8.6 blackout and one for my supressed 300 blackout. By far the best optic in my collection. Can't beat the value you get for $500! Thanks for the great review dude!!
So glad I seen this. I looked at the Vortex strike eagle 1-8x24 ffp and the Viper 1-6x24. Looked at both and will say the the Viper destroyed the strike eagle. Thank you for the information sir.
I have both and I agree with you 100%. Only thing you didn’t mention was that the PST does have noticeably shorter eye relief on 6x than 1. Unlike the razor which the eye relief stays consistent throughout the magnification range. Also the eye box on 6X is noticeably better on the razor. If I was to sum it up in one sentence, I would say the PST is better on 1x and the razor is better on 6x.
Great review, thanks!! I'm a Razor Gen II owner looking for another LVPO...was struggling to "settle" for the PST on my other build but after watching this, not as much. The cost difference between the PST and a Razor, is about $450 at this time, and that $450 buys a mount and a backup 45 degree RDS to go with the PST. No brainer it seems. The only things you didn't cover was eye relief and eye box between the two at 1x and 6x. That's another huge consideration...and once you go Razor, looking through something that has a thicker, noticeable bezel, might be tough.
I feel the same I have the both I had the Viper and went with a Razor for m other rifle thinking hmmm it'll be at least 2x better. It is great, I am keeping it but if I ever decide to replace my ACOG which I have for sentimental reasons (I think) since we used it in my unit. I'll go with the Viper. I'll also say after using everything from Elcan to Aimpoint, Eotech, Trijicon etc to the Vortex type sights the LPVO is my go to optic. The ACOG and the LPVO sights are truthfully the only optics that give me a CQB through 300 yard significant improvement in acquisition > shot > accuracy/time over Iron sights which I used for many years before optics became popular.
Nice review, well thought out and helps me make a better decision as I am leaning towards a new optic. Budget is always the biggest consideration for the regular guy like us, living in that 80-20 world!
Dope review man, this one really helped me out a lot on making my decision. PST it is !! I like to stay in that mid-range area of budget and quality. The PST fits the bill
No shit you’re called tactical accountants. Just saved me a lot of time and money on tactical gear. That shot of you under a blanket watching the sopranos with the scope was enough for a subscribe.
A few comments....1) thankyou for the detailed review...appreciate it, 2) Don't think you mentioned that both optics are 2nd focal plane (SFP), 3) I don't know why youtube reviews like your's don't also include a segment viewing customer comments about the optic on manufacturer's website and addressing them....for example, customer comments that pst 1-6 "eyebox eye relief" wasn't good...meaning that a slight change in alignment of eye to just a fraction off center made it really difficult to use optic. Don't know if this is normal, but I know it's something I want to be informed about before I pay the $$$,
thanks for the video. I was trying to decide between the viper 1-6 or the Trijicon credo 1-6 and your video helped me more then any other on you tube so thanks!
You’re very welcome. If you haven’t already, check out the Delta Stryker HD 1-6. We are testing one now. It looks like a very compelling alternative to other 1-6 LPVOs
If Vortex put a better reticle in the PST I'd buy 2-3 tomorrow. I have a PST ii 5-25, and love the thing, but I really like the JM-1 BDC reticle in the Razor. Less thinking involved. Better yet- borrow some ranging ideas from Primary Arms and give us something with a lifetime warranty that offers the advantage of being able to calculate distances without math. I know... I know.... shoot enough to become proficient with a standard mil based reticle. I'd rather let the reticle do it for me. Thanks for the great review of these optics!
I went with the PST. You have convinced me. I just couldn't justify the price of the razor to myself. All that leftover money can go to ammo and training in general. I hope I won't regret my decision.
Long story short I traded some gear I wasn't 100% happy with for a razor 1-6 and I'm glad I did, love the razor! I recently purchased the viper 1-6 so I've got both. If it weren't for the shop willing to trade frankly I'd have stuck with vipers all around. Both are phenomenal optics.
The razor quality feels a million times better than my viper. The cheap feeling illumination knob drives me crazy for the price. The turrets feel solid even though they aren’t nearly as smooth as the razors. The glass is by far the best part of the viper.
@@46dgarrison yes sir, the razor is legit. To be frankly honest I no longer have the viper. Upon mounting it and actually going thru some drills and practice the 1x was messing with my eyes meaning it had something like 1.5x and would present a double image. With respect to vortex I think I just got a lemon. I returned the viper and tried an aimpoint pro and I may try the viper again in the future but I really like the pro for now.
Wow! Your time invested and then sharing the info is greatly appreciated. I felt all along you’d go with the pst. Razor to rich for my blood. Lol Thank you!
I had the razor in my cart. Went to check out and it was sold out. I was so bummed because it was available for just under 1000 new with the BDC reticle. At the time, I thought well what about the viper.... so I ordered it..... and this video confirmed my hopeful research.
Before purchasing my viper I contacted vortex customer support to ask a few questions. The guy I talked to said guys overseas often buy vipers when they're spending their own money to get the optic.
Own several of the Viper PST Gen II. They are super clear. Was always Leupold only previously. Couldn't find anything like wanted in a low power variable. Tried one of these on a compact bolt action. At first thought I didn't like the light adjustment relative to the Leupold FireDot. Then with use realized it was so much easier than having to cycle through all the settings to go the other direction. With the Vortex just turn the dial. Off is between each setting. Changing the battery isn't as elegant on the Vortex. Be sure the threads are aligned before tightening. The power adjustment ring is stiff on one PST and not at all on another. Just buy a throw lever ring that is easily mounted.
The disappearing bezel is a selling point I think for me. I mean it’s a red dot with six extra power. I think that quality of the razor is astonishing. And right now the heavier version is 900 in places. That’s only 300 more and I think worth it. Going to put it on my POF revolution pistol. Think that should be a deadly deer hunting combo.
Thanks, your review made me choose the vortex razor HD Gen II E . I rather save weight so the $900.00 dollars on the GEN II E Razor was the better buy.
Hey bro Army medic here. 8years active been deployed multiple times with some sf units, I’m not sf myself but had the luck of being in the right places at the right time. Anyway take my word however you want but I can tell you right now the reason the razors are so much is because of the military contracting. The razors, just like KAC and ACOGs, they don’t really actually provide more for the money. These manufactures just know that while they have the contract they can up the price and 1- the military will still pay for it. And B- civilians will want to look like the military so they will complain and then still pay for it. I know this because I built a true (minus funswitch) m4 clone down to the peq15. I have been wanting a razor 1-6 but only seeing the 1-8. Good thing I found this review now I know to just get a pst and cerakote it that high speed bronze lol. 👍👍👍
This is a very helpful review. I just got a Viper PST Gen II (MOA reticle) and i'm very happy with it. Also, that article you linked to is super interesting. If its good enough for SF, its good enough for me lol.
You’re not the only one that sees the 0.9x on 1x. It really surprised me as I didn’t get that with my much cheaper Gen1 Strike Eagle. Decided to just go all in and get the K16I instead because of that.
Great comparison. I have the viper, love it. And it does draw ligh very well at night, i was pleasantly suprised, thought that it wouldnt b great since it is a 24mm
The thing that worries me the most is the quality control and durability of the PST (more so the quality control). I only have one rifle, and that’s really all I plan to have. I’d like to have a do-it-all optic that I won’t have to replace for years and years unless I somehow break it. That’s the Razor for me.
This was a great video bro. I have a Gen 2 razor 1-6 E-Series, had been debating if Viper 1-6 was good enough for a backup rifle, clearly seems like it is. Thanks again! Eurooptic has the demos for $499 right now
@@itsrass1378 I ended up buying both. The Viper 1-6 is on a backup rifle, the razor 1-6 is clearly superior to me. I'm actually looking to buy a 1-10 razor right now for a different rifle
@@Matt-dd3cw I have been thinking about it and will end up with both but in the next few months im getting eotech exps3 for the rifle I have now and will build another rifle for midrange shooting.
Not sure if you were aware, the author of that article (and many other really informative articles) Jeff Gurwitch now runs the youtube channel Modern Tactical Shooting. He makes some good stuff and he is a good dude.
Having some information into the manufacturing world, it could be that the scopes are made the exact same, in the same factory, but the razor gets the grade "A" lenses, housings, dials esc while the PST gets the grade B and the Cs are used for Strike Eagles (among other parts differentiations. If you're looking for guidance on buying one or the other: Just buy the one that you can reasonably afford.
Great video. I agree the differences are few, between the two. For the massive price increase from the pst to the razor, for 95% of us the PST will do a great job. Spend the extra cash on a good mount, throw lever, and maybe some ammo.
