Vostoks are a hoot, they're the AK-47 of watches. Not really pretty, but you just about can't kill one. They're cheap to buy and mod, and like you said, you can customize them to suit what you like. My first one was a Scuba Dude in the Ministry case. Swapped the bezel and put it on a shark mesh bracelet. Cutting all the damn links on it was a total PITA, but also totally worth it.
Nice vid and helpful info. Really like the orange bezel watch, esp on the 710 case. Probably use a lollipop second hand tho. How long did it take you to feel comfortable with modding? And what would you say that one cost to fully mod?
a lollipop would be a nice touch. i felt much better on my second attempt as on the first attempt i stripped the teeth off the winding gears because i did not insert the crown in the movement and pull out to free up the gears. but i have since done 6 watches of various mod levels. nothing really freaks me out or causes me any hesitation anymore. cost wise, i think the most i have spent on a modded watch was around $200.00 and that included the watch itself.
Just wondering about the display caseback: Does it add thickness to the case? And does it affect the water resistance? Thanks. Cool vid. Inspiring me to do more mods than I had originally envisioned.
This is why I collect lower end (cheap) watches 34 now ! 4 Bostok, Shhhh 🤫(Timex , Casio), & Chinese watches ! Along with the WIFE not having hacking on me for the $$$$ . LOL you can relate !
I'm hooked on them but ordered direct from Vostok . Paid $155 for three shipped but of course I'll have to wait a few weeks for them shipped to PA. Amazon wanted $150 for just one . Why they never corrected the bezel to uni-directional click style is beyond me
Hi Joe! Do you know where to buy replacement straps and bracelets that would fit your unmodded watch (the Amphibia GMT) that has the bracelet integrated into the case? Thank you!
you can buy adapters from Meranom in Russia that will allow for use of a regular strap of your choosing. the other option is to swap the movement into a different case, which is what i have recently done. My Neptune GMT is now in a spare 420 style case. so i can now use any style strap i prefer from any strap maker. maybe i should do a video
Love the video but I am left thoroughly confused. Where exactly do you source the replacement bezels, etc.? I can’t find squat on the Meranom website (very difficult site to navigate). Please provide numerous links. Thanks and sorry for the aggravation
Where i can find the clear case back? Greetings from Brazil! Just bought a vostok years ago because of you. They are almost impossible to find here! At the time i had to ship it to a friends house in spain and he brought me when he came to Brazil. Planning on buy some other ones pretty soon.
I am pretty new to vostoks. I was wondering how do I know if a bezel will fit on my vostok, in this case a K-65 Komandirskie, same as your 24 hour Komandirskie.
You just need to determine the case style. (410,420,610 etc) the bezels will usually swap between cases but they might interfere with the crown in some way. Join thr Facebook group Vostok Watches and post a picture of your watch. You will get all the information for what you need and where you get parts to swap. Very helpful group.
I think people miss the point that watches are a man's accessory, if you are physically fit then it compliments your image, the watch you first show looks largely speaking as good as any rolex & hopefully will not find you being robbed, even if, you could much more easily slip it off & hand it over & not loose any sleep, I've had two malfunctions, one I suspect related to oils drying up & another where the rotor is not not engaging to wind the mech, however I did regularly practice my punching technique almost as a sort of test so perhaps this is behind the failure, I'm sure other watches would have failed too, ha ha, take care
Love your Planet Ocean .Idont like my 710 anymore so may give that look a go but haven't changed any hands yet myself and will prob mess it up lol .Here's my Milgauss 110 .it's pre owned and came fully modded instagram.com/p/CREjiKOrM8e/
