I think he's doing the reverse psychology thing, saying he doesn't want to do the the things he actually wants to do... But whatever he ends up doing it's still going to be entertaining! Yay! ✌️
Just gonna say i'm really exited about the ham sandwich. The low weight, high energy density due to the ham and the lightweight bread, tremendous traction on asphalt and dirt, and of course the appealing aestetics.
Can't go wrong with a ham sandwich. Well much wrong, there are some scenarios, but meh, where you going.to source a nuclear reactor in any case. Go with the sammich.
@@templerea5262 nah, too Old base car with narrow fanbase of hayabusa and a lot of mad people. XK120 would do better for sure. Also at this point it would be better to build Model T replica if you plan to change everything anyway
You just made a poll for projects ranging in difficulties with us, the crowd, not needing to lift a single finger in this whole project. You, sir, are going to have a crazy difficult project for absolutely no reason 😂
"Well, we've come to the end of February Madness, not March Madness, that's a registered trademark. It's come time for me to build another project car. I let my viewers vote for my next project car and that was stupid, so now my February madness car is not a car. Normally I would have ignored your votes, because I already bought a Viper and off road tires. But, none of the parts I designed fit on the car, so I have to redesign these parts and wait for new ones to come in the mail. Meanwhile, the algorithm requires feeding. Speaking of feeding, today we are going to learn about mastication on the best damn ham sandwich ..."
Hell & Country: You could turn it into some kind of drag monster, or, you could jack up the suspension, slap in a transfer box and locking diffs, and build yourself a small camper fit for both the Town & Country...
I vote you finish the vehicles you have. Boring I know, but more projects just means much more time between the tesla swapped Jag and landspeed car episodes, which I really enjoy.
Here’s the problem with finishing your projects. I did that. Told myself no more new projects until I finish the old ones. So I finished my projects, have a nice clean garage. Now I don’t want to start any new projects. True story.
I wish too. But we are talking about Matt here. He doesn't finish projects. Atleast he is honest about it haha. That is why I like Matt: honesty and sarcasm at the same time
The ham sandwich is going to win. However a video of matt over engineering the hell out of a sandwich, while also going of on tangents for at least 50% of the video will not be disappointing. ALL HAIL THE ALGORITHM!
Model T with a motorcycle engine, reminds me of my dads idea for putting in a motorcycle engine into an MG midget. We never got to do that project, and he’s since passed on. So I’d consider the T with a motorcycle engine a spiritual successor of sorts.
Im working on a 4 cylinder stroker starting with the largest displacement engine I can afford to break; im hoping to get over 4 liters of displacement with off the shelf parts. I know its possible to get more but I dont have a machine shop nor do I want to pay someone else to have all the fun.
They have off the shelf micro turbines that are purpose built as generators/range extenders. I would love to see you build what dodge should have revealed in the first place. Jet cars are back!
I wonder if he could get his hands on a (used) Wrightspeed turbine module. They've kinda already done this, just as a light commercial truck powertrain instead of a car.
Having seen the original Chrysler turbine car one night on the Saturday evening drive-in at the Scottsdale Pavilions, I can say that a turbine hybrid car would easily be the most impressive vehicle that I have ever seen.
@@haphazard1342 I don't know if a used Wrightspeed unit would be available, since that would imply that they went into production and were used. Did any ever make it out the factory door?
I think an excellent idea that's not been done is a hybrid rock crawler. You need a lot of torque and control, but only for brief periods, so a small motor/generator should keep it charged up. Think motorcycle engine. Have all 4 wheels independently powered so you can tank steer. Maybe it doesn't even need to have steerable front wheels- think how much stronger that would be. No steering, U-joints, etc....just a bar "axle" with an electric motor on each end. This is the future.
For nostalgic reasons, I have to vote for the Jag XK120. My Dad raced one in SCCA races in central California. It had a 303 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 in it. They called it the Oldsuar (Oldsmobile+Jaguar). I would think one of those Barra engines from Australia (and 5-speed gearbox) would make for a pretty formidable package.
The goldwing camper could be really neat. It's not like it's gonna be fast, but you won't want it to be lol. Fun to drive, ultralight, nice and fuel efficient, and lots of space.
I think you should combine the Hell and Country and the Viper to make an off-road minivan with a bunch of power. If the only thing cooler than a Viper is an off-road viper, then a step up from a minivan with a bunch of power is... an offroad minivan with a bunch of power!
This is the perfect chance to team up with another guy named Matt for a new channel called superslowmatt, which is nothing but long format videos of all the finishing work for each of the cars.
In Poland we have a book series called Pan Samochodzik (mr Automobile). The name came from the fact he was driving a crashed Ferrari 410 turned into an amphibious vehicle. I always wanted to see it done.
A turbine - eletric car has been on my mind for a long time. Way too many options to explore. And that ariel was very close from something i was coming up with
I'm glad you've already made your mind up because there's too many good options here. Camper trike, superfast minivan, and Hayabusa T are impossible to choose between anyway.
My grandpa had an XK120 roadster I never got to see. Would be an awesome build to see. Second place vote goes to jag, but I think the xk120 would be the best track car in your collection by a mile.
Double Duc does have a third conceptual model that could work, two differentials. Drive the first inversely, two inputs to spin the carrier gear, then link carrier gear 1 to carrier gear 2, where the second diff outputs to the belt drives. You'd need to offset the engines and transmissions to align this setup to the original sprockets, or you could just cut out the original transmissions and shoehorn one in between the two differentials. Or, stemming from this, bind the two engines together at the crank, that way they're forced to be in sync minus whatever torsion the rod experiences. This is how engine platforms are literally built anyways, smallest working unit that's then scaled to a higher cylinder number. Same transmission setup as before, shoehorn one in that can handle the power. Either way, you do need a differential driving the wheels, for obvious reasons. Mechanical simplicity is the best option here, rather than trying to sync motors or transmissions with sensors, which could just as well produce oscillations, which will be a whole other headache to solve. The inverse differential solution is better if you don't have the engines linked with a solid crank, but slightly more complex and more bulky. Of all of these ideas, the trikes seem like the most likely to win out from all aspects. Cheaper, easier, etc. Double Duc is doable with some work. Tesla Trike is interesting, but might be better off as a tadpole (reverse trike) rather than a delta. Caravan trike would also be fairly simple, just a body extension with a camper shell on it. RC Smart Car is also a more reasonable project, but doesn't feel very inspired, might make a good one-off video for some fun within an enclosed course, but I don't think a lot of people would find it super interesting. Every other project is just expensive or too complex, and would add to the already-existing pile of incomplete projects, or they'd just be a one trick pony, similar to the RC Smart Car's issue, where they just don't have a ton of overhead for the amount of work and money put into them.
See I think most people would argue that finishing your existing projects is the responsible thing to do, but I'm not sure that's really the case. 1) A lot of those tedious little things to finish up don't really make good RU-vid content, or at least have a high ratio of work to good content. 2) I think there's a lot of anticipation for many viewers as to when you will get back to their favourite project, or even what the heck the next video will be at all. Not having any idea what you might be in for when RU-vid notifies you of the new SuperfastMatt video (heck it could even be something random, like comparing a Model T to a Tesla) is part of the character of the channel. 3) Would it even be SuperfastMatt if a project for completed? All that in mind, please enjoy your ham sandwich, Matt!
Honestly the Turbine Charger is the coolest one here. Considering Chrysler experimented with turbine engines in production cars for a long time, including putting a turbine engine into a Charger B-body, I think bringing the idea full circle would be amazing.
I'm for the offroad viper. Somewhere around youtube I've seen a dude throwing 2 hummer v1 axles under a first gen Camaro. I found that to be pretty trick. The XK120 would also be really sick, because racecar of course.
I legit dig the german halftrack (Kettenkrad) like streamliner caravan-bike combo tbf. In keeping with the popular saying 'K-swap the world' and as i've not seen one yet; i'd suggest a rwd, K-swapped electric milkfloat. =]
Oh man, where there no cheap chargers without an engine? Yeah, so my vote goes towards the turbocharger, which i don't think is registered by the ncaa?
Busa T. gotta be the Busa T. There was a guy over a decade ago that took a Ford 1.9 and shoved it into a T and he called it something that was "stupidly fun and hilariously dangerous" please bring us this abhorrent monstrosity. I need this level of chaos in my feed.
As a fan of the TV show Viper, the "Defender" (what they called their special Viper) on the show had an offroad mode, where it grew bigger tires and got lifted. I'd LOOOVE to see the offroad Viper for this reason.
I'm one of the guys screaming at the screen to finish all the projects you already have. I'd love to see your Mk VI Jaguar get finished. For new projects I like the trailer trike, but you'll need more torque than a Goldwing engine has. Even small trailers can be quite heavy, so I'd go with a low powered Tesla model S drive unit powered by 16 Model S battery modules.
A Mad-lib type of contest would be cool. "Matt should build a: (Turbine Hayabusa 700-horsepower) powered (Trike Camper Prius) that (Floats Off-roads will kill him) and (Violates trademark Tastes good will get the viewers mad)". Just circle one or more from each group.
I feel like hotrodding hybrids is a section of motorsport that is under done. I like the idea of the turbine APU hybrid or the Prius performance vehicle. Someone needs to do that!
Top gear and the grand tour converted many cars for off road use, many were terrible but some were ok, I think it was a Bentley that surprisingly made a good off roader. The Viper conversion does look good.
Off-road Viper is cool but the turbine powered Charger has a good resonance with history (plus I just love turbines). Dodge made a few turbine powered cars back in the '60s just to test the public reception and gin up some press coverage. Rare as hen's teeth today, but excruciatingly cool. An APU powered hybrid would be perfect.
Could be good to spend some time fine tuning existing skills such as attending a welding course. Attend an automotive painting school for tips and tricks, you can practice your new found skills on the Jag. Why do your projects have to look like you can get Tetanus if you touch them? Love the innovative projects.
You are crazy! (But the good kind), you are a hoot and a holler. One of your videos popped up in my feed one day and I have been hooked ever since. I love your dry sense of humor.
As you've already bought 80% of the stuff for the Viper project, I am now even more enticed to vote for my favourite pick, the Busa T ! Let's see you turn that red sucker into a wooden-wheeled monster, you can even swap over the engine for all I care, and call it a Viper T (not an NCAA trademark - I checked)!
Looks like it's gonna be the Viper. But here's something I'd like to see, a Smart Roadster with an actual fast engine, sadly the Smart Roadster wasn't released in the USA, so you would have to get it from Europe.
Really like the idea of a charger with a trunk mounted turbine. How cool would that look ? Would've liked to see the Smarty go round as well. Totally impractical but stupidly funny. Pity it was up against the Viper. I would like to see both. How about an electric camper ? An old caravan on an electric skateboard platform. Also impractical but very cool .
Technically the "finish projects" will still apply to the viper, since you've already kinda started on it by acquisitions... but if "finish projects" wins, it still won't, as the viper will surely have work left to do when ya get bored & move on to the next exciting new project. Based on this logic, I'm voting Goldwyn Charivan in hopes you add horrid 80's synth/piano theme music.
Crossing a poodle with a doberman would get you a poo-pinscher. You could name it Dr. Sphincter or something like that. Alternatively a trike with two wheels in front will go around corners well, although with three tracks you will still hit every pothole in your lane.
My votes… 1. Split the Smart around the trailer Caravan for a self powered caravan. Driving compartment up front, engine and drive wheels in back. 2. 600hp Mid engine off road lifted dodge caravan minivan
Hayabusa. Supercharged for throttle response over ultimate power. Off road kart. Salvaged motocross forks, both tubes at each wheel as dampers on an A arm suspension. Long travel on a budget. Make a car that will jump like a motocross bike. Play with engine placement to keep it from being too weight biased to jump. Or just make a viper monstrosity.
I think the almost finished projects need 15-20% of total project time. Maybe while making the new project think of a single job on one of your almost done items and that one thing while waiting for parts or paint to dry. In that way each project will edge towards completion while your looking the other way. This reduces completion panic considerably. As for this year's project..... I like the trike concept but I'd go reverse trike. Like the spider but cut back to bare bones. The weight of the motor in front could be offset by the battery pack/s. Maybe a "bobber" style with a small screen to keep the bugs out of your teeth and eyes, and nose. I like t model idea. I think a roadster would be one way to go. Independent suspension and disc brakes all round. Lowered to a 4 inch clearance. Battery in front to balance the motor in back. Hmm maybe the millennium falkon would be interesting.
I wanted the viper to win anyway. Such an awesome idea from one of my childhood favorite cars, keeping perfectly in line with the spirit of the ridiculous TV show
Why not construct a superlight motorcycle powered rear wheel drive rock crawler/off road buggy/ onroad racer. Use motorcycle tires for rock crawler mode and downsize wheels to suit other uses. Make the control arms on both front and rear as long as possible for lots of travel. Use a front wheel drive car rear uprights/brakes, drive shafts and diff centre of the viscous variety for the rear drive train. if you have to have an electric part to the build use electric motor for front wheel drive (and reverse?) Colin Chapman was into car offroad "trials" and from this point developed the Lotus 7. It it wont comply with licensing requirements make it small enough to fit in a ute - I mean pick up. Add lightness of course.
You should build a motorcycle that uses a "digital drive" instead of a chain and sprocket I'm thinking about doing this with a 2.5L iron duke and just having big enough motors to use it as a single speed trans by engaging the first motor with the clutch which would be wired to a large motor directly mounted to the rear wheel
The turbine charger has my vote. I've always wondered why no one has tried this. Not to mention it's basically a batmobile without the annoying nuclear reactor 👍. You could also do future Matt a favor, use this drive train in some sort of hauler for these projects. If the model T wins definitely needs a Barra six cylinder, ford in a ford and all that.
Forgot to put it in the section you specifically left for comments like this but: The Hayabusa T but only if you use either an original gearbox and shifting setup or a strengthened modern re-creation of same. And hey, why not manual spark advance too lol. Seriously though, good luck with the viper
Just gonna tell you, the turbine charger and Tesla Prius are 2 cars that I've thought about, not with the exact same cars but yes with the same drivetrains. Muscle cars deserve ridiculous powertrains, and efficient cars deserve a powerful electric rear axle. I just wish I knew how to make youtube videos.
Off-road Viper or turbine powered hybrid. The latter mainly because I have been playing with that same Idea in my head for about a year. Mainly because of the question, "First and foremost, how big would the turbine really need to be?". Some of those smaller ones used for remote-controlled aircraft yield pretty impressive results. As well I had the same idea about the EV Charger, and came to the same conclusion. It should just be a turbine powered EV. Cus why fake noise future car?
"In fact, Chrysler should just put me in charge of product planning." Amen! And no truer words have ever been spoken! Matt for President.... of Chrysler high performance vehicle product planning!!
