I swear whenever I am looking at different amps that I wanna buy this channel never fails to make these things sound absolutely great every time. I thought I recognised that riff at 1:50 One armed scissor. Never thought I would hear that on a vox amp. Man these little vox amps have some guts!
I’ve had both amps and at low-to-moderate volume, the AC10 can sound saucy and refined. Never got a great recorded sound but in the room it had a certain sweetness to it the AC15 didn’t have (at similar volumes mind you).
I’ve owned both amps. At moderate bedroom/home volumes, I prefer a 10” speaker (Princeton Reverb, anyone?). The AC10 can sound fantastic in the room like this. I found the AC15 wanted the master volume up a bit to really relinquish the toanz. Great for live use, but lackluster in my experience for low volume cookin’. Great demo format as always!
Love your comment. Thanks. I was hesitating between these two models.... Since i always play in my bedroom at low volume and don't play in a band, you just answered my question with your comment. Thanks again.⭐
Thanks for this comparison. The AC10 sounds good. Then the AC15 takes it to a whole other level. I can’t wait get my AC15 head later this week. I’ve gotta get going on building the cabinet for my Celestion Goldback speaker I found on the side of the road. Yeah, it was near a crossroads.
Rad! Like hearing these differences between same brands. Could you do one with maybe blackface vs silver face vs brown / tweed fender? Or something of that sort. Would be cool to see
AC15 much warmer .... but the AC10 doesnt weight much, you can carry it everywhere by yourself ... at it sounds Rad !!!! too ... i f you dont compare side by side ... both sounds Great ... and Loud !!!!! Ac15 its the "full package" ... but my back would make me choose the Ac10 ... :P
I have an AC10C1 in Vintage Black it’s a great classic rock product but sometimes can be to quiet on stage especially outdoor unfortunately and a sm57 in front is not enough, enough for others but not for me and my band
What I found so weird when playing these 2 amps in person, the AC10 is so much more fun and enjoyable to play and sounds really good. The gain tones seem so much better. The AC15 is great, love the tremolo. BUT, the AC15 seems to record so much better to my ears.
thing is...i've both amps. ok. had. now I've the ac10 w/ a celest. blue. forget pedals. the sustain on the ac10 is crazy. the amp alone sustains bonkers. also it's hella loud.
I really like my AC10, but you start getting dirt and break up with the gain at 9 o'clock with a good set of humbuckers. I'm worried it doesn't have the headroom to play out with. Considering moving up to the ac15 or the ac30s1
Lyle from Psionic Audio (maybe the best amp tech on RU-vid) loves the AC-15 but thinks the AC-10 is total garbage. I bought one new and ended sending it back cuz of the excessive noise…couldn’t get a good recorded sound out of it to save my life. It looked really cool though.
Really considering the Vox ac15 head version. What do you think of it compared to the orange OR15? They both seem to do the edge of breakup sound pretty well.
AC15 to me is quite scooped in the lower mid-range whereas the Orange has much fatter low mids. I prefer the Orange for the stuff I play, although the AC15 is a classic. The Orange has better Higher Gain tones. Edge of breakups are both great on both amps. I do like that the Vox head has an attenuator and reverb built in. It's really a preference as both are great. 👍
@@TobysGuitarGearDemos cool, thanks. I was thinking about getting an eq pedal to try to make the orange sound more “voxy” but I wasn’t sure if that would work well. If not I’ll probably get the Vox.
Toby, question: my AC10 has a lot noise coming from it as soon as you go past the 1/4 point on the gain and volume. Is this par for the course. When I go to half on the gain and volume or more the 'static' noise is unbearable.
Hmm It does have some noise but not enough to hear it over what you are playing. It might need new pre-amp tubes, I've had other amps in the past that were noisy and I swapped in a different preamp tube to get rid of the noise
I don't have the Vox, but the Nux really impressed me. The VX15GT looks cool though, I like the rotary switch for all the amp models. The old Vox Valvetronix stuff sounded brilliant so I would think the new ones are equally good. Might be one for the future 👍
I've got two, I liked the first one I got so much that I got another. The one I left alone but the other I did some mods on. I cut 5 inches off the back panel to make it into a semi-open back cab. I modified the chassis and moved some components around to accommodate a bigger speaker. I made a new baffle out of 1/2" ply and fitted it with a 12" greenback, I wanted a blue alnico but too expensive for now. I can stack them one on top and play in stereo and it's freaking awesome!
