VOX AC15 Changing Speakers: Greenback vs V30 vs Creamback75 

Knowing what a tedious process it is to swap speakers in the AC15, I really appreciate you making this comparison video.

The Creamback does a great job of walking the line between the Greenback and the V30. More mids than the Greenback, but not as mid-heavy as the V30...maintains that Greenback warmth, at least to my ears, but tone is subjective! Great demo!

In this demo the greenbacks are undeniable, and it makes me wanna switch out my v30s in my ac30. However I will say that even though the v30s can sound shrill, they really make my lead and ambient parts in my band stand out and contrasts the other guitarists tones very well.

It would have been interesting to hear the alnico blue in the mix as well. I know every test cannot include every possible variation, but it is the classic vox speaker. Of the speakers tested here, the greenback sounds the best to me, with the exception of strummed chords, where the Vintage 30 seemed to have its best moment.

The vc30 sounds better in a mix, which is what really counts

It's the Greenback for me, both clean and driven, mainly because the frequency response seems to be wider and flatter, the other two lose top end so they sound dull or muddy. Nice comparison, not sure whether the 'band' mixes have all the tracks at similar levels - if that is down to the speakers then again the Greenback wins.

I'm liking the Creamback more and more!! I'm running Scumback M75 & H75 on top and standard G12M - 25 watt Greenbacks on the bottom. Sounds awesome but I definitely hear a difference between the Scumback M75 and the Creamback M65!! Really liking the CB right now!!!!🤘🤘

I put in creamback 75 couldn’t be happier. More bottom end, more headroom more volume. Little less mid focused compared to greenback.

I have the AC15 Creme edition amp and it came with a Cremeback. After breaking in , this speaker is perfect for this amp. But the Greenback is nice, too. Would like to try a Blue, but I'm not sure after throwing the money down I'd be any better off.

I just figured it out. I have an old Create 4x12 cab. I'll just put a Red back, Cream back, Green back and V30 all in the same cab. That ought to do it. Nigel from Spinal Tap showed me that trick. Then, down the road I'll put all different speakers in another cab. Then ALL the bases are covered and if I want to be a smart ass and buy another guitar I can just rearrange the speakers.

For the last 25 years I have been playing through a large box 212 cab with 1 Vintage 30 and 1 G12T-75. I think I'll keep it.

Great speaker comparison. I prefered the greenback. More open, hairy sound, more clarity and definition on riffs. You don't hear that much of a difference on an arpeggio. Then The V30 is way bassier, low mid enhanced and "tone" rolled back. The Cream back has a bit of both the greenback and the V30. More bass than a greenback but more open than a V30. I would keep the greenback as it's the stock speaker. And this confirm my appreciation for the greenback again. Nice demo, thank's !

The Cream Back 75 has the warmth. I only tend to think about which speaker RECORDS better. My hearing is shot at age 65 so warm is always important

Greenback !!! Best of the best overall speaker.

If I had to guess, the greenback is a well broken in speaker, whereas the creamback is new out of the box. There is much more separation of sounds in the greenback. The creamback still sounds very stiff and compressed. Get back to me when there is fifty or so hours on the creamback. I’m pretty sure there would be some changes in these comments below.

V30 sounded a tad woofy, gb sounded a tad thin. Creamback H for the win.

amazing comparison/demo. only thing that would've made it better would be if a Blue and/or Gold was included. I think I prefer the Greenback all around, Creamback for higher gain, V30 the least.

It's so weird how dark the v30 sounds here and the g12m sounds bright. I am very used to greenbacks being very rolled off (like the creamback is) and v30s having some painful high end (though that is particularly 16ohm chinese models I have recently found out). Personally I have always though a g12h-30 (or H75) would be a better choice for the AC15 given it lacks low end being a single 1x12 compared to its bigger brother. I think g12m's in general sound better in 2x12s or 4x12 to fill out the missing low end and this video kind of shows it (though still shocked by those highs). I definately would be putting a creamback 75 in an ac15 if I had one (if not a blue or gold).

Outstanding comparison! I was thinking about having 1 green, 1 blue in mc AC30. But was curious about the creamback in a vox. Now I'm thinking of 1 green, 1 cream. And way to cover different styles of music!

Nice demo, my son uses a Vox AC 15 head for worship paired with a Vintage 30 and it sounds 👌

What's interesting is that most AC30 players will swear by the Alnico Blue as "the speaker" for the Vox, and the Celestion V30 is supposedly a ceramic version of the Alnico Blue because it has the same voice coil, but I'm just not feeling it. Maybe the V30 needs more voltage and really needs to get pushed to sound amazing, but in most gigging applications that's just unreasonable. Greenbacks are the way to go!

Greenback all the way. The only one that has a throaty and vocal sound. The rest sounds muffled.

This is an awesome demo. The AC15 or DRRI is a perfect amp choice because we all know what it sounds like as a reference and how it takes pedals. Very well done, especially all speakers in a mix. This is a very well planned and executed shootout, plus it was recorded properly. Would love to know which speaker you keep as your default now. ;) I love the creamback.

I think the Green offers more compression, probably because it is only a 25 W speaker and the others have more headroom. As I recall they used to get blown all the time in 4x12 cabinets with the Marshalls amps. That is the reason they changed their cabinets to four 75W Celestion speakers.

Legendary formula with greenbacks. You get an Ac15 combo because of the combo! V30s don't suit this amp or the cab. Vintage tones and modern speakers don't sit well with me. But still subjective.

Loved the v30s on the plucky first riff, but they were just hiss and mud on everything else

I was thinking about getting a white bronco AC15 because I love the look and thought the creambacks would be an upgrade. I preferred the greenbacks at every stage. Clear vox chime cleans, great articulate driven sounds. The vintage and creams just get dead and muddy.

Great comparison! I found mine: Greenback it is! Articulation is clear and bright at every kind of sound and for muddier tones there is the tone cut knob. But I, who always have had a"muddier tone"...what would you think?;) Thank you for selling me this amp with this particular speaker!

Зелёный - однозначно выигрывает и по сцене , и по объёму, и по тембру. Он более универсален. Винтаж, хоть его и суют сейчас везде, откровенно уступает и в чистом , и в подогретом звуке. Крем и винтаж хороши в чистом. Да и вцелом, это дело вкуса. В этот ряд Синий надо, сравнить.

How many decibels of headroom did the creamback give? If there was a higher efficiency version of the greenback that's where I'd be at. AC30 Too loud for most gigs, AC15 lacks headroom for most gigs. Need an AC20 or a 50 watt greenback 🤔

The greenback gives an unmistakable Vox sound. With both the V30 and the cream back it no longer sounds like a Vox. EDIT: listening to this again a while later I'm probably being a little harsh, but I do think the greenback is the best. I'm a big fan of that speaker and I chose it over the Alnico when I bought my AC15 on preferance not cost.

I Find Cream back most balanced, V30 more focused ( like in your face ) and I love the "wide range" of greenback ( it creates some kind of spatial effect - echo that goes well with complex picking technique ). It all depends I guess what you want to use them for... but yes, they all fine to me.

Creamback for clean and the V30 for distortion. Interesting how Vox and Marshall handle these speakers so differently.

I put a creamback in my AC10; its more open than the other 2. Also I can use an eq pedal to get the greenback tones. Best of both worlds!

Wow what an amazing comparison! You must have done a lot of hacking to get it to sound so fluid switching between all of the clips. The greenback wins hands down for me. It really cuts through the mix nicely. If you really wanted to you can cut out some highs if you need it to sound more like a cream back in a mix but you can’t boost that chime if it’s not there to begin with.

Green back sounds the best

The crane back in every scenario has a dampened effect.

I liked greenback. Little more bite on clean and most dimensional overdriven sound.

vintage doesn't sound good in my ears, it's between the other two. Creamback seems to have a natural ambience in some of the samples which is pretty cool, but on gainier settings open back makes its bass unfocused, therefore I would say greenback for gain, creamback for cleans.

Damn, on its own the cream back sounds amazing, the vintage sounds small, and the green back sounds punchy. In a mix the vintage cuts through the mix, the greenback blends into the mix, and the cream back gets drowned out imo. I’ll be going with a G212 with Greenbacks

The vintage 30 makes it sound more "fender" ish

the 30 is more full sounding. Probably because with 15 watts you are able to push it more. But in general, the 75 sounds better.

Greenback sounds to thin for my taste. I run a V and a Creamback in a 2x12 cab that sounds pretty good. Maybe a blend of a Green and a V or Cream would be a nice blend.

If CLEAN is all you care about, nothing beats Greenbacks.

I prefer the 25w greenback with VOX ac15 amp.. to my ears the V30 simply has to much 300Hz to 700Hz to sound nice and balanced, especially with the VOX circuit,, THe V30 fairs slighty better with a blackface tonestack that scoops mids at a lower center frequency (400Hz) than the VOX tonestack (800Hz).

What I think a lot of people are missing is that, yes the greenbacks sound pretty effing cool, but it also matters how the amp will sound in a band or in a recording. There is a difference in how you come across when you are just practicing by yourself and then to how your sound fits when you're in a band setting. That said, I have greenbacks in my AC30 ;)

The more I hear a vintage 30 the less I like it. Especially on the gainey stuff it’s just sounds so brittle and fizzy. The green back stays nice and open and gritty and throaty. I’ve been thinking about replacing my speaker in my AC 15 C1 however after watching this I should just leave it in there and practice more. LOL
