Grog had really good lines there "If I don't know where I am swinging neither would you" "real man hug" and he was smart about that no see when he tried to "seduce him"
Contrary to popular belief, Grog isn't nearly as stupid as people seem to think. He's even less articulate than the average Goliath, but not as stupid.
So many emotions in this scene. Vax and Vex about ready to fight to the death, Keyleth truly realizing her potential, Sylas Briarwood being put down, with the PHENOMENAL soundtrack over the top of it all. I'm having to hold back tears every time I watch this. It's so damn beautiful.
Ooh man Matt's voice acting on Sylas was awesome, from the dialogue to just the vocals. That scream of pure unbridled *agony* when Keyleth hits him with the sunbeam is just fantastic.
I've been saying this ever since this episode first came out, but... Keyleth: That's a nice vampire husband you have there. It would be a shame if something were to... happen to him. *KEYLETH PRESSES DELETE*
Taking that beam head on is some serious GOAT energy! He literally took on magic that could have destroyed him too but he chose to take it just to make sure the bad guy got turned into a crisp!
@@noahlandrum3413 Not against radiant damage, but Barbs have proficiency in CON saves, which is exactly the kind of save Sunbeams requires. So still a high chance of making the save for half damage as a Barb
@@kaeleastlord If he didn't have an Inspiration point already, he would have gotten it for "I can take it!" ...Which would have gone STRAIGHT BACK into keeping him alive, by whatever means the DM would have allowed.
You don't fuck w/ high level Druids, especially Moon Druids like Keyleth. Combat & Elemental Wild Shape + the powerful nature spells they get at 6th-9th level: Sunbeam, Wall of Thorns, Fire Storm, Whirlwind, Earthquake, & Storm of Vengeance. DRUIDS ARE SCARY!
Can we talk about how Delilah is just a human and does not give a shit about daylight now being in effect so Pike overpowering her is literally just... Pike overpowering he in a straight fight? That gnome is GOATED WITH THE SAUCE
As much as both deserve props for being strong enough to stand toe-to-toe like this, that victory by Pike is very much a result of it actually being 2v1. Delilah diverts her attention from the standoff with Pike to try and do something to help Silas, which gives Scanlan an opportunity to engage without Delilah having a chance to counter him. He successfully hits her with a Silence which negates her ability to cast magic, the ongoing spell she's using to hold off Pike's attack cuts out and Pike's spell is, consequently, unhindered and hits her head-on as intended.
Also, remeber just before that Pike was able go toe-to-toe with Silas one on one in meele, and not like Grog, who hited Silas mostly because he underestimates him, she landed 2 or even 3 hits, while Silas breaks her defence only once (when he grabs her throat. Two times she is launched into the air by sheer power of Silas's strikes, but she actually manages to parry them, they were just so strong), also Silas have to basicly all her strikes parry too, he wasnt able to tank them (because divine) or dodge them as easily as with Grog or even Vax.
I was finally catching up with the campaign today while at work and she was way more powerful in that than she is here. Here she's beaten to a bloody paste and have to call on the sun tree to aid her to get enough power to kill Sylas. In the campaign she just casts sunlight and calls it a day, no special requirements needed and she was basically at full health. It was so little issue in fact she just decided to make a detour and blast the sunlight on Pike's shield and it somehow deflects into a penis shaped sunbeam. I am not even kidding.
@@declicitous1763 in the campaign episodes it's more evenly paced out since each episode is like 4 hours long and have more time within the story. The show had to compact it since these are just 12 episodes with 20 min run time. What I really wanted more of is the friendship between Keyleth and Percy, their friendship is the best but we only got a bit of that in the show
Not really surprised, Keyleth was consistently the most powerful of the bunch just by virtue of being the only really destructive spellcaster, being a druid. Scanlan is a bard, but his spells were always focused on utility and versatility. Pike is a cleric, which doesn't have a lot of destructive potential at later levels, and always focused on healing anyway. And high level Druids are extremely powerful so... yeah.
You can really see how Delilah is the brains and power behind their plan. It’s a bit sad how much she loves Sylas and has to see him burn. Also great to see how much Pike and Keyleth have developed their powers
@@colecamp2539 me too. In the Critical Role stream, Percy even casted an illusion spell on himself that gave him the face of Sylas in his last moments burning and face meting and he had Delilah look upon him. An intense No Mercy Percy moment
@@misabelrodriguez1163 Besides, what they have isn't love. It's selfish desire. It may have been love once, but like Cole said, that was lost a long time ago.
@@gregfahlgren7501 I disagree. The two are completely unremorseful villains....but they really did love and care about each other. One might say it's their only good trait.
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the *pure, unadulterated agony* in Matt's deathscream when Sylas is getting his tan in? My god, does he deserve to be at the top of the VA business.
After she went 1v1 against Silas and held her ground against him. Something even Grog had trouble doing. She didn't beat him, but he couldn't gain any ground against her either. She completely walled him while the others were distracted with other things. Astral Pike took care of business
There is a slight amount of sympathy I feel for the briarwoods, like they are terrible people done horrific things, but delilah did it all out of love and you can see just the pure anguish on her face as sylas gets cooked well done. She made a deal to save her love and she had to pay her dues, truly awesome characters
I totally agree. Both are horrible people but they really did love each other. That wasn't fake, and it wasn't just they using one another for gain, they really did care for each other.
I feel nothing for them they were horrible people who did unforgivable things to others. There for they get no sympathy from me. Lol sorry I’m playing as a Paladin in a game and we had an encounter like this and he said those exact lines
I haven't watched any of the original campaign and I haven't had the chance to watch this show yet, but after coming across clips, this one has repeatedly inspired me for the DnD campaign some discord friends and I have been working on starting.
I thought that Pike was the overpowered with her Deus Vox Machina moment near the Sun Tree, but between this and her mastering fire, everybody knows who is the most powerful member of the group. Not to fret tho, she is not perfect, her social skills match her charisma and we love that, for the unaware (and I doubt anybody except true new people are) just look up "Critical Role Nap"... Polymorph.
Delilah may have loved his Sylas and would’ve done anything to save him. But that doesn’t make her a good person. She was cruel to other people and destroyed several other families slaughtering them and forcing them to become slaves in their kingdom. She would execute children just to make an example out of them. She’s kinda like Kingpin from Into the Spider-Verse, we sympathize with her, but it doesn’t justify her actions and we sympathize much more with her victims. At the end of the day she is irredeemable for what she did.
At 1:23...Pike be like...Vox Machi...Machi.....NA!!! At 4:18....Keyleth be like....KeylethgoesScanbo!!! (for context ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AuuY__TBk3Y.html)
@@tylerlino3673 I usually post the clip under 3 minutes, but if it's an amazon original show I can usually post up to 5. With anime though it almost always gets blocked unless I make alot of cuts
It's canon (i.e., she escaped in the original campaign, albeit under somewhat different circumstances), and it sets up a longer and more interesting story, so I don't see why it's a flaw.
Part of what makes me kinda dislike this scene in both the show and the tabletop, is that they don't even die. Dalilah just comes back in a later campaign as an even stronger warlock patron, so wtf was even the point of this if we just bring her back, make her stronger and borderline worship her? xD She's not even a sympathetic or understandable villain either, she's just a selfish jerk, lol
Tbf even in the campaign Silas was a high levelled bloodhunter (fairly sure) with an overpowered weapon. And Delilah was a 17th level spellcaster while most of the players were levels 10-12 in those scenes. It really reflects here.
