Voyager Lands At RAF Brize Norton With New Union Flag Paint Job! 👀 | Forces TV

The RAF Voyager which has been given a £900,000 paint job has landed at Brize Norton. The aircraft, which is used to transport the Prime Minister, royals and senior cabinet ministers, has gone from grey to bright white, with a Union Flag on the aircraft's tail. The words 'United Kingdom' have also been printed on the fuselage in gold. The aircraft flew from Cambridge to RAF Brize Norton earlier today.

airhab so all the airlines in the world with leased aircraft, you claim that they aren’t part of their fleet? Are you aware that airlines like AF, Japan Airlines, Aer Lingus, Emirates, British Airways etc lease aircraft? They certainly don’t count them as the leasing companies. They are owned by the airline for as long as they have a contract

Pete um airbus is European, the planes might be manufactured in France and Spain but the wings and engines are 100% British which makes up half the plane so try again

Mike Foxtrot the wings are manufactured in the U.K. as well as the engines, just like any airbus aircraft other than the a320 neo series

@@danchang9976 Not quite, the RAF A330ceo's have Rolls Royce Trent 700 engines built in Derby, but only the A330neo (Trent 7000) and A350 (Trent XWB) have single-source engines. All other models currently in production, including the A320neo, are available with a choice of engines from British, US, and French manufacturers.

@@johndean4998 Not quite. There is no RR option for the A320, either ceo or neo alas. The PW1100G is made by MTU in Munich & LEAP-1A at Safran's Villaroche facility. Rolls Royce is out in the cold alas.

Its OK we have 13 others in grey. And this one can still refuel Jets, carry medivacs and transport troops and freight. This is the tanker the USAF wanted but Boeing's paid Senators pulled the plug. And hasn't the KC-46 worked out well?

Royal Yacht Britannia was first and foremost built as a hospital ship. And served in the Falklands campaign as such. But the people who bitched about the cost wouldn’t have known that!

Geoff M yes your right I remember now she was brought forward but deemed unsuitable for the task force. Uganda stepped into the breach along with several other merchant ships. Argus started life with the RFA that way. Long time ago!

Ed that’s the full cost from design all the way through to completion.... normal A330’s ran by airlines have a cheaper overall cost as the design for the paint scheme is shared amongst the fleet

Love it, this ain’t cost the uk government 900k more like 360k by the time the vat and tax is paid. Do people not understand 60% off what you earn and spend is tax. But makes the uk stand out, we need to get back what we lost under the eu. The trade the uk lost being in a group when it was too big in the first place.

You do know this a joint venture with private companies, and is limited to what war zone, and war tasks it can do. In the same way British Search, and Rescue is limited due to it being a private firm.

airhab well actually according to the RAF website, the voyager tanker is operated and rented for 27 years by the RAF. Air tanker airlines technically own the plane and maintain it, but only under and MOD contract

They decided to take a way a military capability (temporarily) to use it for floating around a lot of two-legged hot air machines instead of spending more money. i.e. they are trying to be cheap.

@@tomoliver5861 yes even through the plane will most likley not provide air to air refuelling in a warzone since it is much easer to see in the sky it will provide air to air refuelling for aircraft during training exercises and other peace time mission such as assisting in getting aircraft to bases around the world when the plane isnt being used to transport government ministers or members of the royal family

Would be interesting to see how much it costs to paint a comparable commercial plane. So many public sector/military contractors rip the hole out of the tax payer when they get a job.
