The first time this was broadcasted was in December 1991, a few weeks after the Paradiso concert. This right here is a re-broadcast from April 1994, aired in the week following Kurt Cobain's death.
The interviews you see here were put together in the months that Nirvana was breaking through to the mainstream in 1991 and pretty much in a matter of weeks had gone from total nobodies to the biggest musical influence in the world. All of a sudden any punk/indie band would have a chance of making it big, and record companies worldwide turned to the underground like they had done 15 years earlier when the Sex Pistols broke through. Mainstream was re-defined because of their overnight succes.
