This is the best beginner tutorial for Avenger I've seen ... and I've been through quite a few. It's clear, step-by-step, without getting lost in the weeds of deep features I don't need yet. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I look forward to your future Avenger videos.
Fantastic tutorial on Avenger! Your clear, step-by-step approach is perfect for beginners like me, avoiding unnecessary complexity while still being thorough. Can't wait to learn more and master this powerful tool. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Dude, the way you present info is spot on. The fact you summarise, right as I'm starting to hit critical mass for new info... you have great instincts for that. Subscribed.
@@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE Oh yeah, I should answer your question in the video... Easy. I've been in 3D and 2D art for about 20 years, and have decided to explore music just for fun. Loving it and really enjoy 'playing' it. Which I mean quite literally. Been a long time since art felt that way. But as you say, it's vastly crowded with tools and plugins out there, and it feels especially tricky to commit to a synth. Most plugins that I own, I follow and discover well enough fir the most part, but synths, vital, massive, serum, they're all complex scary looking things. In the end I chose this. There's something discoverable about it, but playful too. Maybe its my age that there's something comforting about it looking a bit like winamp. :D Mostly though, there's a feeling to the send layering that's a bit like photoshop or zbrush or something like that, so I kinda 'get it' and it doesn't scare me as much... As I'm familiarising myself with the tool, I guess it's the overwhelming nature of limitless possibility that does get scary. I have presets to deconstruct, which is great. But honestly stuff that I really love video-wise is concise lessons that scale. You know how any skill is a bit like a web... one strand leads to the next? Typically, I find that each strand needs an intention to try to fulfil. So videos that maybe start small but build to a sequence on one key kinda thing -- which really blows my mind about this synth btw -- I'd be super interested in that. I don't even mind what genre it's in. It's that layering process that would be cool. Anyway, sorry for the essay. Thanks again.
Thank you for that great video. I upgraded from version 1 to 2 a couple of days ago and was instantly more than happpy to see the improvements. for a long time, dune 3 was my go-to synth but with version 2, its avenger now. the cpu load is so much better now and its sound even more powerfull and sooo clean
Really appreciate this tutorial as it's so well done and the best for this VST. Thankyou!! Will be definitely interested to see more content, however not only on the workings of Avenger but your workflow inside of your DAW. Seeing it's a mini DAW in itself. Whilst am sure it could be very true that it's the only VST Synth we will ever need, it sure won't be as many of us as have built up many different options along the way apart from the stock plugins that come with any DAW. Also MIDI routing to a Komplete Kontrol or other generic controllers as not yet worked that out yet seeing the right click brings up the tooltip rather than MIDI learn etc. Cheers!! 👍
Running Avenger inside MPC Software here. Keyboard splits take another dimension. For creative performances, this makes a pretty cool combo. Upgraded to v2 and really having a blast w it. Worth every cent. This and Vital are really cool to use together as well.😊
I'm so glad you didn't write the "W" word there! Almost made a mistake and wrote it in full! Oh the humanity... Seriously, why didn't you just write "with'"? Is there a law against it? Is it a magic word that is so obvious that you don't have to write it any more, and can just put "w"? Is it trendy? Cool?
A great video on an amazing instument. Avenger 2.0 is so good I can't recommend it enough. Even though it looks like a lot to take in it is actually quite simple to use, when you have played with it for an hour or so. The presets are amazing and are the best place to start when trying to work out how stuff works. And the quality of the sounds is top tier. I wont be using anything else for sometime.
my only beef with Avenger - which is my go to synth that I love dearly, is the lack of presets. Having to drop $80 for expansions is brutal. They need to have more general presets just using factory content available. That is why Serum sticks around and just remains so popular. We need more presets! Maybe sell a 500 presets pack for $20 - something like that. Hmmm maybe we should start a preset site...
You were absolutely right... Just made the purchase, it's incredible. and it genuinely brought tears of joy to my eyes (as an Omnisphere and Falcon owner). I didn't buy this for EDM; it's for sound design and hybrid film composition, and it excels in those areas. With over 30 years in the game, I can confidently say this is the future!
I'm hoping they have the midi import feature to VPs for drum seq/arp . that way I don't have to recreate my arp midi loops from scratch again or midi drum loops @@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE
@issiewizzie you can import and export drum midi in the drum seq. The arp I believe is export only, but if you have midi, just place it in the daw track and skip the arp in avenger
Best showcase I have ever seen of this synth. I have the previous version and I was expecting something REALLY new with this version but it wasn't the case. Have you tried PhasePlant? That's a hell of a synth!
Avenger 2 is a total monster! Only two things i'm missing that hopefully come in 3.0: a proper sampler, with time stretching features like Halion / Kontakt....i don't mean a sampler to rival those two, but we need all the normal sample manipulation tools....and an FX matrix, like Melda MXXX, for unlimited FX chaining building.
One way to create a variation could be to add a macro to the drum mixer so you can take out elements. But I agree, having the ability to switch between patterns would be great.
I will start posting them over the next 2 weeks. Starting with a Secrets of Sounddesign for those that are just starting with synths then the detailed vids of Avenger. Thanks for watching
Bought v2.0 yesterday, would love it if you could do a master class on this synth as I'm a bit of a noob to sound design and I want to learn the full capabilities and creative potential of Avenger 2, thanks for this overview. Subbed. 👍
This was excellent. Looking forward to more deep dives. I definitely want an ARP one. :) Also, I wonder if VPS will convert their pre-V2 factory set and all of their expansions to provide previews? I love that feature in Nexus, and glad it was added in V2.
Crikey! This is really really deep and there's a lot to take in, so your overview explaining the features is incredibly useful, thanks. I was worried that a M1 Pro with 16gb of ram might struggle after reading some user comments, but your CPU% has kept very low throughout, so even if you're running the most powerful mac, I guess I should be ok.
First things first, Version 1 was nearly impossible to install due to a VERY strange authentication process. I succeeded after many hours. Then, after an updated macOS, I had to do it again :-( However, this time I just couldn't authenticate the product. This surely makes me wonder if v2 is any better at this. I am sceptical...
Thanks for the video, I recently purchased Avenger 2 (Rent to own). Can you make advanced tutorials of VPS avenger, maybe show how to integrate with Bitwig, The workflow should be pretty amazing. I decided for Avenger because of the sound quality and the workflow (Reminds me a bit of u-he Hive).
@@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE yeah it'd be nice if there was an option to pop out into it's own windows and then I'd put it on a second monitor for editing sessions. I think I'll suggest it to Manuel and a future feature
You know... What we actually want is to hear a lot more of it. Nothing is going to get me to try a synth more than being impressed by the sound. The tiny bit we heard sounded pretty good... But you already had it set how you wanted it to sound.. I'm not rushing out to demo it, because I didn't hear you tweaking around at all. I didn't get any since of it really... You learn what is synth can do by tweaking with it and hearing what it's like in between all of the finished sounds you're looking for.
Check out a lot of the audio demos they have on their website, the sound designer behind the synth is one of the most talented Sound designers out there
I was also curious how you use VPS Avenger 2 to write tracks (your workflow). For example, how do you write the entirety of a drum track? Do you automate the mute/unmute function for each individual drum sound throughout the track? Or do you solo each individual drum sound in its own channel and then arrange it that way? Just curious how you approach it. Thanks!
Thanks / great overview. Start following. One thing - the Arp has always confused me - so maybe show in future, if there's any smart way to make sure your Arp will play in a specific key e.g. Cmin. Also a smart way to export the Drums to your DAW. And the Editor - best way of using that ?
All great questions which we are going to cover in future videos, but some short answers for you. regarding the Arp (sequencer), the root note is whatever key you hold down on the keyboard. So, when you look at the arp default, its just C repeating. Instead of C, think of this as the root. So if you press G on the keys, its going to play G repeating, the root follow what you play. C in the Arp is sort of like saying the root of the scale. Lets say you moved the first step in the arp up 7 steps, then when you press down C on the Keyboard, it will be playing 7 steps up on the first note, or the 5th of the scale. If you want a specific scale, you can use the new scale parameter when you go into the Random (dice button) Then the notes generated should snap into that scale you defined. Its always good though to learn the specific intervals of the scales and and modes you want to work in. Drums into the Daw: Best way I found to do this. Check out the Mixer section of this video, you will see when I go into the drum mixer tab and show the dropdown to route each sound out an individual output. Route each sound to their output. Then in your daw, make an audio channel for each drum output and route out of avenger into each channel. Then you can use the effects of your daw. You can also export the midi from the Arp, then import into the Avenger midi track and tweak the midi as the song goes. you will make to turn off the arp at this point. The editor changes based on what synth engine you are working with. This can get deep but will cover in a future vid. Hope that helps.
@@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE Thanks for great answers. The new Scale parameter helps but would be great if the arp coulee be 'locked' to a specific Key. I will watch your videos as the come along. Thanks
There is a lacking flaw in Avenger going back to it first incarnation. You have no way to group all your favourite sounds in one place unless you create a folder yourself and copy and paste the fave sound into it. You might be thinking that's not a bad workaround but once you start owning multiple packs, keeping track of your fave sounds manually becomes really hard. Nexus (related to the same people who make Avenger) have a great section of favourites saved in one spot automatically once you click save as fave. When version 2 came out I thought this simple fix would be sorted but so many great features were added and this wasn't.. Ive stopped using Avenger and wont be buying any more soundpacks. THere are thousands and thousands of sounds and having no way to get to the ones you prefer should be a standard feature. Annoyingly, Ive been banging on to Avenger for ages and give up.
did you try the analog expansions from Encounters media? some kind of obscure developer, but they make awesome analog sounding sounds with Avenger... Avenger Goes Diva! :)
Hello from someone who wants to buy Avenger 2. I didn't buy version 1. Questions: Which extensions are included with AV 2 or is there only the Factory Preset 2. Will the old Factory of version 1 also be included?
The factory 2 library is included. Not sure about the version 2 library, I had v1 so it shows. Expansions are extra but look at the pick 5 deal on plugin boutique and expansions break down to about 50 each
I know you recently switched to Bitwig, but I have a question about Ableton Live. In VPS Avenger 1, you could capture midi by setting up a midi-in channel, but it looks like you can’t do this using VPS Avenger 2. Am I mistaken?
I got the new version but the sounds won't audition until I load it up ? Looked at settings cant find the setting ? I also installed it on my laptop and I see I does audition on my laptop which is older but does not on the M1 very disappointing :( will have to wait for M1 update
Sorry for the delay, did you ever get this resolved? I have the same laptop and the preview works fine. Just make sure the musical note at the top of the browser is clicked that will activate the previews. You can also write click inside of the browser and click on update previews and it will generate previews for something that doesn’t have a preview.
Why is it better than Falcon? Falcon is a Beast too, it has also many very very good Effects and many different Oscillators. From a producers standpoint: are the premade sequences useful for productions or are they more of a gimmick. Is it a good idea to create and sell a track with this predefinded Sequences? Thanks!
I think the sequences are great starting points, they are very musical and I usually tweak them to fit the track or the groove. I have falcon, and have used it on my projects by tweaking some presets, but I find the layout and work very very confusing. With avenger, it looks like all the hardware synths i've used, just with much more advanced features, the visual aspect makes it very easy to understand where to go. When I try and start a patch from scratch in Falcon, can't even figure out how to get an oscillator in. I haven't taken the time to dive into the manual, just used and tweaked presets, but its not an inviting workflow from my point of view.
Thanks@@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE I also have Falcon and Avenger (not the new version) and i feel the same. Avenger is much easer to navigate. The possibilities are near endless with Falcon but i wish the UI would be more (!) easier. I think that the sound in Falcon is more cleaner but i created more sounds with Avenger and began to create my own Library.
Did they add MPE and Poly AT support in 2.0? I am not seeing it in the feature list. This would be a hard miss, considering a lot of newer midi devices are going this route.
@@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE Thank you. Ya, if they added that, it would be hard for any other synth to beat Avenger. The sounds they create it in, alone, is already hard to beat. Imagine is they did at least MPE? Amazing!
You absolutely can export MIDI outside of the drum track. Just create a new midi track after your Avenger track. Then, on that MIDI track, select your Avenger track as your MIDI source. When you record your MIDI track, the arp or sequencer notes played in Avenger will record on your MIDI track. There's a RU-vid video on how to do it. It's very easy.
Idk man avenger has always been a dud in my opinion. Just a cheap virus ti clone and a sampler. The workflow is clunky and the fm sounds like ass even when oversampled. Even a synth as old as albino 3 blows it out of the water when it comes to fm. The samples are good, I’ll give it that, but you’re better off just getting vengeance packs. And also it does the cheesy gated supersaw trance thing really well. But honestly, with competition like phase plant, serum, vital, pigments and the new current this synth can’t really justify its price point
Dude, this is nothing like the virus other than it has some analog models for oscillators and filters. Guess what? So does just about every other synth plugin created. I wish my TI2 had all of the features and functions that Avenger does. They both do sound great. That's true too.
@@TheBeatG it's not about I don't like it, I like it, it's just it has lots of stuff but none of them is well done like in other synths. The FM sounds bad compared to phase plant, also the granular (the old one at least) doesn't sound as good as the one in phase plant or pigments or current
