Well, the time has come. We finally have a Full Body Tracking solution for people that does not require anything but webcams and a printed piece of paper. I must say, it works impressively well. The software is called MoCapForAll and we just recently got a trial for it, while the trial itself is kind of useless for VR because of the 10-second limit, the software seems to work great! Here is my tutorial on how to set up MoCapForAll on your Virtual Reality headset. Even though their tutorials show the Oculus Quest 2, this should work on any SteamVR headset. Whether it worked for VR in your case or not, the point is, it WORKED! full body tracking could be used to animate characters for cheap and its amazing either way

The fish eye camera may be responsible for missing a lot of information in one of the images (the one at the wall). The software does everything possible to estimate the positions of the non-visible points, it is a better idea to get a camera that does not present such distortion by the lens.

I believe they try to work around this with the intrinsic calibration.

Fish eye lens distortion is fixed with the calibration. The corners of checkerboard pattern are used to figure out the "perfect rectangle", and a transformation is applied to the camera to make the corners and patterns in the checkerboard line up perfectly with each other which corrects the distortion. Though depending on how fishy the fish eye (I don't know the correct term for it xd) is then I could see some things like corners getting cut out from the image

I assume matching cameras would be ideal! and yeah, ones that display with as liitle distortion of the 'room scale' as possible, make the tool that much more accurate and faster too i'd wager,..

In this world with his small room and low light level, the camera could barely even see the thing much less use it ideally, the additional distortion was HARDLY HELPFUL. Why? The bigger the printout is in frame, _(and the less distorted)_ the better, for the tool has to do that much less work. Using any lens that distorts room shape and scale is LESS THAN IDEAL. *WHY WOULD YOU ARGUE FOR SOMETHING TO BE LESS THAN IDEAL?* ?.?.?.

@@NextWorldVR because basically every single consumer camera on earth has inherent distortion. You need both cameras to match otherwise the computation needed for this will be done on 2 cameras with mismatched distortion which will make it even more inaccurate. Yes it's less than ideal but that's how it is since we don't live in an ideal world. The size of the checkerboard also doesn't matter as regardless of how far away it is the corners will always be in line with each other

Dude. This is really amazing. Please try it on the quest 2! I'm gonna bet that EVERY VR RU-vidr is going to have a video on this in the very near future. If you put "Standalone Quest 2 Full body tracking in VR Chat with your phone. NO Vive trackers!" as the title you'll get all them sweet views lol And I wanna see it on the quest 2 cos' that's what I have. That's what most people with VR have.

@ Yeah totally :) People are going nuts for anything with Quest 2 in the title right now. Make it a bit longer, add some inspirational royalty free music, and some overlay text saying how you felt about the experience and you're on your way to thousands of views lol

Hey for anyone watching this, the reason his vrchat wasn't working was most likely due to using the trial version of mocapforall since it only exports for 10 seconds at a time

VMT released three new versions since MocapforAll release. The latest ones should fix the serial number issue, because you don't need that number anymore, you just write "HMD" instead.

My attempts with the quest 2 just ends up with the feet and torso in my chest.. The quest 2 serial number only works if you're using air link or oculus link btw. if you're using virtual desktop the easiest way I've found is to install openvr-space calibrator and get the hmd serial from there.

@@justincase3230 Not too good I would say, there is however going to be Slime VR trackers coming out in November, those have amazing tracking being standalone and they sell them in a 8/10 bundle specifically for Mocap, I'm looking at those for the best consumer option.

@@ethanbridglal2203 yeah I was just checking those out, they look pretty cool I'll be getting them when I can but all the tracker pre orders are sold out and my country tends to get shafted on release dates for stuff compared to Europe and the USA. There's also owo tracker and decamove. You can use you phone for hip tracking or several for full body, don't have to be particularly fancy phones either. Ima probably just do the hip tracking till slime or decamove is available.

okay, this gives me another entire reason to use the broken phones i have lying around in my room, for some reason my family throws their phones away when they get new ones, so i get those, their screens are mostly cracked, the phones themselves are almost unusable, but their cameras work great, at least the back cameras work, which is all i need since they're the ones that capture most stuff fastly, so i can finally enjoy full body tracking, only downside would be if the program is going to be expensive

I notice the iVCam method doesn't seem to detect the calibration codes as well as using a USB-connected camera. Even when trying to hold one of them really close to my phone camera (iVCam), it doesn't read it. Plus, you have to keep in mind that the MocapForAll app can be buggy. The current version is 1.0.1. Even now, I'm having trouble calibrating the iVCam because the pop-up window that displays the calibration stage doesn't appear in the Windows 10 taskbar. Without it, no progress can be made. Their Discord group, however, does have a report bug text channel and reported my findings. I'm not sure if/when they will fix these bugs.

I wonder what can I do to get cameras on the wall at that angle and what cameras to use. I would not want to spend too much on like 2 or 3 cameras just for this. I have a red magic 5g, a iPad air gen 1, and a iPad gen 8. I can't think of a way to get that angle with them.

i dont understand the part of the "images". did you use your phone to scan both extrinsic and intrinsic images?. I mean you dont need to scan one of the images with your pc camera?

This is by far the #1 tracking solution on my list .its not perfect but it's cheap and you dont need to wear anything. I'm hoping that 4 1080p webcams in 4 corners of a room lighthouse style will provide decent tracking.

this should have been offered by optional native quest external add on without needing any steam pc. they could just ship 1 or 2 trackers to improve accuracy in some applications.

I mean, I want to test it on my Logitech C920 Pro. I think if the final version comes out. You need an High refreshrate ( 60 FPS) Webcam for get an smooth experience and minimum 720p better 1080p so the Software can see the tracking markers. ;)
