I love the fact that the Egg Dragoon we fought in Unleashed was just a prototype, and here we fight the completed version of it. Love that little continuity nod.
Well actually the prototype is in the opening cutscene of unleashed and are the same in both games. Edit: both versions in Unleashed were prototypes and this one is the completed version so I guess I was wrong 😑
Egg Dragoon being the boss of the Modern Era is perfect fanservice. The sole reason Eggman made the robot was to combat Sonic's speed to be able to keep up with him thanks to possibly data he took from their encounters throughout Unleashed, only for him to get curbstomped by the Werehog form because he had very little info on it and due to the only bosses Werehog Sonic face are Dark Gaia beings. This boss fight is basically a whole "what-if" scenario come true where we finally get to see the Egg Dragoon's true potential against Sonic as intended. And by God it is awesome
The best part is he actually does change the pace during the battle. Or at least what you do. 3d Running section 2d Running section Wall jumping section Freefalling section HE LITERALLY DOES CHANGE THE PACE HE WAS JUST WARNING YOU.
On the PS2 version of Unleashed, Eggman would say "You little... you little" every time you hit him and it was hilarious. Also the game crashed the first time I beat it, good times.
This really carries the feeling of Eggman being at his breaking point. He's simply out to take revenge on the one creature who's always managed to ruin his nefarious plans, and he's determined to end it once and for all, even if it means he himself has to go down along with the hedgehog.
@@arturobarreto8437 yeah. Plus in Unleashed you can actually hear eggman say things that show he really wants sonic dead, even telling the hedgehog to just die already. You even hear sonic tell eggman to calm down
my favorite part about this fight is that they perfectly replicated what a day version if this boss could be like. for those who have not played unleashed, there is no day version of this fight in either version. it's purely a werehog brawler.
This is how you repurpose a boss. They actually remade this boss to fit with the boost mechanics instead of the werehogs. It was actually changed and not just another rehash of the sonic colors final boss.
Don't forget we do not have Sonic the Werehog this time and this version of Egg Dragoon was the one Eggman intended for us to fight Sonic the HEdgehog with.
@@FeatherWings78 probably cause theres not much to change for that fight and it would be just the same fight or cause the Egg Dragoon is more recognizable
@@AscendedEmperor It was the final boss of the Modern Era of Sonic Colors and I get why it had to be a Modern Eggman Robot but why couldn't they have picked the Egg Nega Wisp, or the Egg Wyvern?
I'd say the only suitable penultimate eggman fights would've likely been between the Egg Wyvern, Egg Dragoon or Nega Wisp armor. And we got The Egg Dragoon in the final product.
I may have said that Metal Sonic boss is the best, but this one is my favorite. Reasons why: 1). Hardest boss in game. 2). Good music. 3). An actual good Eggman boss design. 4). Eggman says “gOoD”.
It's mental that this boss is so much more difficult than the Unleashed version Albeit completely different gameplay styles is the cause but damn Then there's the Forces version...
@@creamymemus9781I feel like the theme for the Egg Dragoon in Forces is a good fit. Unleashed’s battle had the strong and powerful Werehog beating the hell out of the Egg Dragoon, so it got a epic theme. Generations’s battle had the fast Sonic the Hedgehog beating up the Ultra Hyper Prototype 2(Eggman did say that he would make a new one). In Forces? We have a small but fast Sonic spin-dashing into rocks. Classic Sonic literally uses rocks to defeat the Egg Dragoon, and it works. If rocks, I REPEAT, ROCKS, can now defeat this version of the Egg Dragoon in Forces, that must mean that the Forces’s Egg Dragoon is a weaker version of Unleashed and/or Generations. And that’s why the Forces music fits with the battle... it still sucks though.
@@obot321sucks4 I mean it is a prototype....my hopes is in the next game we see the finalised version of the mark 2 and get a boss battle as good as this one
Hard Mode is one of the best examples of "Hard, but fair". Really wish they brought back that style of challenge that was mostly absent since Unleashed.
Gets through the classic sonic portion of levels: No nostalgic feelings Gets through the adventure portion of levels: Nostalgic feelings rising Gets through the boost portion of levels: Remembering childhood

@@DanieleMulas-up7np Here we have a comedian. Guess what? Not everybody can or wants to play classics, they enjoyed the boost more than you think. (Edit) It's called diversity of likes.
@@-KnightOfTheWind The only comedian I see is you. You stupidly assume I'm a Classic Sonic fanboy ? I HATED Classic Sonic in this game, it was clunky and dull as shit, in fact, I didn't enjoy the game as a whole. And if he gets *nOsTaLgiA* over a really shitty remake of Rooftop Run, or worse, Planet Wisp, that's just laughable.
Sonic can have the shittiest game with the best soundtrack you've ever heard. If a Sonic game has a shit soundtrack? Pack up and go because they didn't even try and there's nothing good there 💀💀

Eggman can only be attacked in the section of the body he's in. Use quickstep during the 3D sections to dodge attacks. In the 2D sections, jump over the fire and ice attacks. If you're quick, you might be able to get a cheap shot in. Eggman may also attempt to squish Sonic. If he does, wall jump to hit the head before you take an unavoidable hit, but watch out for the fire projectiles on your way up. During the Skydiving sections, hold down X/Square to skydive quicker and reach Eggman to be able to homing attack him. He'll still attempt to shoot projectiles at you, though, so watch out!
Egg Dragoon: Day Stage. Hey, yeah! In Sonic Unleashed, you could only fight the Egg Dragoon in Nighttime mode, and when Generations was released, the released the Daytime mode!
Man, me and my older sister used to always joke about this fight, when we were younger, (I was playing and she was watching) I was fighting Egg Dragoon and Eggman said that one line *_"Time for a change of pace!"_* and me and my sister constantly joked about him saying "paste" and it being toothpaste, good memories.
I’m glad this boss was chosen for the Modern Era. The original is my fave Sonic boss of all time! Also I like playing Knight of the Wind on this boss fight, who else does?
Ah.. Unleashed was the best. Such nostalgia. I played this when it came out and lost it but got another copy around the age of 12 and that's what got me back into Sonic and gaming in general (after not playing anything since the Gamecube/N64/Megadrive days) I've still yet to play the HD ports
Nialld333 I remember getting it when it came out, I was like, 2. I had it on my ps2, but my sister broke it, so 2 years after that, I got it on ps3, and the graphics BLEW my mind
@@retardedfishfrogs1 not to brag, but my friends and I were quite smart for our age, although I didn't play it much, all I played were the hub worlds which still blew my mind
Bruh for me I loved the silver boss foghr and egg dragon boss fight the msot, with shadows being 3rd. And all of them took me DAYS to beat, and i was a 5 year old lol
When I was young I beat this boss after a day or so and recently got the 3rd World record so when my little sister said she wanted to play the game, we spent all day on it. That brought back so many memories
considering they couldn't use the werehog, they did a perfect interpretation of the original pretty well.Am I the only one who wanted those timed events where you have to press the buttons right towards the final part?
I love how certain games have their own styles (and they won't change). Even though I never played Unleashed, and there is no Day Dragoon fight, and this song is from a different game, this clearly has the Unleashed sound to it.
I just love the fact this boss is WAY different from the original. 1. You're not werehog so SPEED IT UP. 2. Eggman seems to incorporate new moves that the original might of used and we didn't see. and finally 3. This really better suited fro sonic as he is and not werehog. So Eggman has a good plan here. just sadly sonic knows what to do and beats him.
honestly, i found pretty easy all of the bosses in this game. i bought the game, and in that same week i finished. it took me longer to finish sonic unleashed, shadow the hedgehog or sonic heroes
Bruno Santos I also have Unleashed but is still haven't finished it yet. But I bet the final boss is hard, same goes for Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Heroes. And yeah for awhile, the final boss for Generations was hard but it got easy the more I played it. It was hard the first time I got though.
This boss was TRASH. Way too repetitive and frustrating, the 2D perspective was plain bullshit and tiresome. And this remix is just a lame, less orchestrated version of the original with less instruments.
This really loses its power when they removed the screaming violins / brass... It's probably because it isn't Werehog anymore, but still after hearing the original theme for so long, this feels so empty.
the boss battle most difficult of sonic generation, with 3d run zones, 2d run zones, wall jump zones and freefall zones, you pay atention to any change.
How to defeat any Boss in any game: Step 1: turn off game's music Step 2: play this Step 3: release all your frustation on that boss (extra effective if you hate tgat Boss) Done, now you bullied the boss
this feels a tad bit less in your face and more simple and sophisticated like an orchestrated song than the sonic unleashed version... it could be to fit the themes they went with for the night and day...night time reminds me of a more jazzy scene which there's big brass instruments providing the bass in the original egg dragoon theme
@@fantoast6932 Ah okay, I misread, sorry. But this is also why this remix is trash. It's just the original with less instruments, no trumpets, no timpanos, skips an entire part with violins. So lazy and underwhelming.
@@DanieleMulas-up7np oof... I think it is because this isn't as a serious situation as literally falling to the Earth's core at terminal whilst fighting Dr.Eggman's machine most likely meant to combat a more speedy and fast version of Sonic.
@@fantoast6932 Still a pretty shitty rendition, both in music and boss itself. Why ruin its great atmosphere for *tImE fOr A ChAnGe Of PaCe* ? All you do is just jump clunkily in 2D to evade iceballs. The attacks are far less impressive, and the few times you're in 3D, you're stuck running on-rails and can't steer manually.
I wish egg emperor was in the Xbox version and not just the 3ds version either as egg dragoon 's replacement or just put as a boss somewhere in the game cuz I love that fight from sonic heroes and especially the music!
+EZ64 yeah. The graphics and the fact its probably the fastest - paced Sonic game out there (idk if that makes sense) i think is something pretty much everyone can agree is good about the game. I've not gotten far into the game but from what I've seen, the original boss is completely different from the one in Generations. I think the main difference is that you play as the werehog, which already completely changes the fight since you will have all the speed bits (pretty much everything) taken out and replaced to fit into the werehog gameplay if you know what I mean
Fun fact: this is more speed based while unleashed is more heavy based, gives the detail that eggman tried to change the egg dragoon to speed just to find out he's battling normal sonic
