Worked at JCT 600 in the late 70,s who sold Rolls Royce, Bentley,s , Porsche and Ferrari. Everywhere Rolls and Bentley's used lead they rotted . Apparently it was down to not washing the flux from solder tinning with soapy water and solvent like panel wipe before applying the lead .The flux rotted the steel .Maybe the flux used for solder tinning is different these days and not acid based . Porsche sensibly recommended the use of inert epoxy primers and fillers . We also used Upol D filler which is reinforced with aluminium flakes for high adhesion across multiple substrates. Even today i still use Upol D after all these years because it never lets me down .
For someone who is particular about fabrication, handing over that role to someone else to do is a leap of faith. Hats off to you Nat for having faith that someone else can do the job to the same quality (or better) as yourself. I've watched that happen in a place where I work and he feels like he is going from a Rooster to a feather duster.
Australia is just coming up the late spring & into summer so don't pull the t-shirts off the shelf yet. When you guys are wearing Hoodies we're in t-shirts & shorts.
For classic car wiper arms always get the wedgelok type, if possible, rather than the type that just clip on. The clip-on ones suffer from spline wear and the arms flap around, particularly at higher speeds, whereas the wedgelok type stay firm.
There was a Punk band called Consumed from Nottingham back in the Nineties. They had a song called ‘Tw*t called Morris’. So for the last… however long it’s been, every time the lads come to ‘Morris’, I can’t help calling out ‘Tw*t called…’.
Hi Cal and Nat. Just catching up with my weekly dose of the excellent retropower uncut episodes and clicked on retropower allegro image search, and clicked on the fb image of the silver allegro render. To my surprise a couple of pics down in the related images bellow is a sketch that I’ve drawn of a Restomod Princess. I remember watching an episode with cal with a group of old cars and a Princess was one of them which partly inspired my sketch. Don’t know why my image came up in the search but wondered if you had seen it
The engine on the Allegro seems rather forward of the front axle line. I'd love to see the weight and balance figures on this. A Quaife ATB diff will be an absolute must on this.
The Honda underpinnings are virtually unchanged other than the rear floor being cut and shut to fit the Allegro wheelbase, therefore the engine is as forward of the front axle line as standard Integra Type R.
Enjoying the show guy, great work. I done a wiper mod on my mk1 Escort van using fiesta mk2 wiper arms that have the same spline which have the hook location for the blade and used those aero blades , just offering an idea.
Can’t hold a skills candle to RP but something about the whole process that makes me think if it makes sense, after all that hammer and dolly work you stick a load of messy led to then begin filing down.
@@seanandersen5752 The IVA (individual vehicle approval) process gets them registered as a new car. For the Stratos that’s pretty simple - not sure what they do with the Allegros though..
21:34 Nat, whilst your hot zinc metal spray looks fantastic, what sort of protection process would you recommend for somebody restoring a car in their garage. From bare metal to finish paint? Tom.
They weren't very good ergonomically though, the steering wheel obscures the additional gauges most of the time. A very cheap solution from Ford at the time.
Dry sump tanks: yeah. Short of casting them you’re not going to get close by any other method. Wiper arms: LOL! You are Project Binky and I claim my five pounds. Land Cruiser: possibly my favourite build ever. Tremendously sympathetic to the original, I would love to see Toyota’s take on this. Have you talked to them?
Loving the Allegros! One question; the Porsche 911 has two of those condenser coils, will having just 1 be enough to condenser the refrigerant adequately?
I think everyone there is happy with their specific job-position. I don't think anyone is sick of looking at any of the cars there. Careful with taking comments on RU-vid's comment sections serious. A.I. can be a b*tch. Cheers.
Question: Your metal finishing process with zinc metal spray, primer and raptor. What to you do regarding tubular components like wishbones to prevent corrosion inside the tube?
Coming to the end of the road on a glut of builds all at once. I am looking forward to seeing what replaces them. On the Mustang, is it shadow, or is the leading edge of the passenger door sitting proud? The driver's door is totally flush, but the passenger side not so much.
Ned, one of my unfavorite jobs on an E Type was anything to do with the rear brake pads- is there any way to open that access behind the seats to help that? Many E Type owners would run the rear brakes to ruin- only adding a couple of discs to the cost but lots of pain in the disassembly .
What do you think the final KERB WEIGHTS on the INTEGRO. Higher than anticipated or hopefully lower. Looking forward to seeing how it handles, to a sorted integra. Great builds and vids as always 👌
When did door pane;ls become door cards, I always knew them as door panels, you refer to all the other parts as panels and surely you should afford the same courtesy to the DOOR PANELS.
Door panel vs door card is a US vs British nomenclature from my experience. I've always called them door panels here in the US, but all of my British coworkers (and the lone Kiwi) called them door cards.
My question is, can anyone turn an engine into a sump if it was was not built that way by the factory. Eg. Let’s see someone had an early fiat spider. Wet sump. And u wanted to put in a Alfa bus so v6 but it’s to tall with the oil pan Could u switch to a dry sump so u had engine clearance and ground clearance Hope im wording that correctly
