(This video is revised version. I changed contents a little bit from original posting video. I have received a comment and I realized that original video might miss lead audience to wrong way. So I remade this video focused on how to remove seized spindle. Million thanks to kissarmy110936.)
This is what I found at an estate sale. It was a good turntable except that the spindle was seized. I removed it from body and cleaned the all parts. Enjoy.

That BSR was built better that the soundesign one had all metal cam for the reject mechanism! Oh and a magnetic cartridge also! Nice!! Great job once again!

The bsr tables always seem so clunky when compared to an early to mid 60’s VM. Great video, nice find, with the four pole motor.

Excellent video. Very informative; I really picked up a lot of tips from it. I love the old BSR's, though they do tend to run a bit fast. I have sanded down the shafts on some and that seems to work well. Very tedious, because you have to keep checking with a strobe disc to make sure you don't sand too much off.

I know this is an older video and you may not even read this comment but i will post any way. This bsr is almost exactly the same as mine. only difference is the cosmetics and the base is not all wood and is mostly plastic on yours. This and mine the 2013 w are some of the higher end bsr turntables. for 1 they can have most stardard mount cartridges installed on them where newer bsr turntables seemed to be limited only to specific cartridges as there is a clip on the front of the head shell that keeps the cartridge in place not screws like yours and mine. i would definitely recommend upgrading the cartridge as that is the exact same one mine had on it as well the adc k8e. i upgraded mine because upon changing the needle the cartridge itself fell apart and became useless. Mostly due to age. I upgraded to a modern audio technica AT95EX and noticed a vast improvement in the low end and bass response and less distortion from what i was getting from the original adc k8e before it fell apart. also this has a squared or rectangular tonearm. This is a good thing because later bsr models had rounded tone arms and the clips did not hold the arms in place as firmly as on the squared arms. also this has adjustable tracking force and i believe anti skate which i don't think the laver bsr tables even had. Man i love the older BSR turntables. They were some of the nicest cheaper tables you could get from back in the day. That is until they got cheaper and cheaper and had less features and less cartridges you could use with them due to the switch to mounting with a clip instead of screws

Hi, Vincent. Thank you for the comment and great info regarding needle replacement to the upgrade one. I know you are into the music, especially using the old turntable and listen the music from vinyls.

Teddy, your demo of this BSR McDonald 231OX is super without obstruction doing wth your both hands working where I can see very clear of your every move you make rather than One-Hand operation such like one hand working & the other hand holding camera , blocking the view by his own body obstruction . Nvr know wht the guy is doing only talking but wth blocking the view wht is going on When viewing your video I come to only watch yours from now on. Pls do post more details b'coz I got to ask you more on this turntable & pls advice on my BSR which I got it from my friend lately. Condition good. It spins OK has Tone Arm but without needle/stylus. It's an old turntable but hasn't got it's Model reference. It has 4 speed operation auto n has no Tone Arm Lifting/Lowerng Lever. Pls advise wht I got to get to operate this Turntable. I now following your show eagerly. Tq👍

This was so helpful! I just got an old BSR 510 from my dad that looks the same. I never would have thought to use a paint brush and q-tips. I was trying to figure out how to get the grease off all the little parts on the bottom. Any recommendations for a replacement stylus?
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 8 лет назад
+Tom Armstrong Hi, thank you for your comment. If your BSR still has its own stylus, you can read the needle number. Best to find same one, If there is no needle attached, then probably your BSR will use Tetrad T2MD, or same type of needle. This site will help you to find exact needle you need. www.turntableneedles.com/BSR-Ful-Fi_c_25050.html And go to ebay, you can find the needle less than $10 including shipping. Teddy

I believe it is M854 or M853-DS73. They are the Tetrad replacement equivalents. The M854-DS73 has a longer cantilever.

If I hear a sort of "warbly" sound, like a fluctuating sound, when I play vinly on my Soundesign BSR turntable, mostly noticeable on sustained notes of songs, what would that mainly be caused by?
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 8 лет назад
Is the needle new? also record is clean? The other day I cleaned my record as much as I could using glue method. Then the unnecessarily sound was removed completely. Also stylus is securely attached to the tonearm?
@zackelliott665
@zackelliott665 5 лет назад
I have this same model but when I use the auto feature, the tone arm returns and drops in the middle of the record after the side is finished. To be clearer, I put the record on the spindle, it drops and plays, once it reaches the end of the side, it lifts off the record and returns to the start position, but then moves back over the middle and drops in a random spot. I thought it was a weight issue like maybe the weight of multiple records on the spindle influences how far the needle moves, but the same thing happens. Any advice?
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 5 лет назад
Almost all of the tonearm wrong moving will be solved by cleaning up the old dried-up grease and reapply the new one. I had same issue on many turntable changer (especially BSR) but all of their problem solved by complete cleaning of the mechanism.
@nuttyprofessor
@nuttyprofessor 5 месяцев назад
Yes there is old hard grease in and underneath the drive assembly that you have to clean off, but you have to disassemble parts of the drive assembly. Acetone, or nail polish remover, works great in cleaning and dissolving old hard grease. Make sure you dip a small artist brush in the acetone and clean off old grease in the drive assembly

hi ted great vid I 've just unstuck a seized Platter on a BSR C129 .I tested the turntable and everything works ...But when the start/stop/auto switch goes to stop position there is a loud clunk from the speakers...The record player is part of a Marconiphonic Radiogram ...Any advice on how to stop the speakers picking up this clunking sound?
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 8 лет назад
Hi, I never had such problem, so I need to guess. If this clunk sound is not related to the mechanical thing, it's maybe on/off switch of the turntable. Usually they have omron switch made in Japan, did you check it?
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 8 лет назад
Also one more thing, is your cartridge stylus is attached securely to the tonearm?
@foxxmulder7524
@foxxmulder7524 8 лет назад
Thanks Teddy.The turntable on/off switch contacts are arcing when starting and stopping motor. This switch is not snap action is that normal?
@cletusspuckler2243
@cletusspuckler2243 6 лет назад
Just add a capacitor on the terminals of the switch ( not an electrolytic capacitor !! it will blow ) to kill the arc in the switch , i have one on the motor switch of my Barthe turntable , that works great . I do not remember the value of it , i would check it if you want .

My record player goes through the cycle where it drops down a record it works extremely slow and there is a lot of resistance on the turntable. I turn it by hand to get it to go through the cycle. When the turntable rotates I hear a noise like something is loose underneath. How do I fix this problem?
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 5 лет назад
You want to remove all old dried out grease, and apply new grease to the moving parts.
@brianmott728
@brianmott728 5 лет назад
What kind of grease do I need to buy? Where do I buy it? What is causing the viberating noise underneath the turntable that sounds like something is loose?
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 5 лет назад
I use this amzn.to/2ljiwI6 And other questions, you need to open the case and need to see the inside. Answer is there.
@nuttyprofessor
@nuttyprofessor 5 месяцев назад
The slow turning could also be caused by a hardened and stiff idler wheel. Resurface the outer edge with an emery board and apply rubber rejuvenator to the idler wheel, let idler wheel sit for approximately 15 to 30 minutes, then reinstall the idler wheel. That will greatly improve the platter's torque, no matter if it's plastic or metal

Using the changer function for prised LP's is not the best idea..... Pop the short spindle in for those. The drop changer is really ment for stacking those 7" 45's..

Whenever I restore BSR record changers, I use white lithium grease. One particular brand is Lucas Oil Products, you can get a tube or a canister of it at your local hardware store for $4-$5. Remember, it's the oil-based one. Not the water one, which is similar to WD-40.
