Thanks - I brought my parent's turntable back to life after 45 years. I couldn't figure out why the on/off/auto switch was sized, it was that big black washer that was stuck in the solidified grease as you showed.

This was fantastic, thank you so much! I was able finally to get the start lever on my turntable working again thanks to part 3 of your video showing exactly what the culprit was! Still having trouble with the cycle cam gear - it'll turn (stiffly) but won't lift off. I've only had patience, though, for about 5 minutes of heat so I'll keep at it.
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 7 лет назад
HI, cycle cam gear will be removed when you give a time to burn the old grease with soldering gun. Take a time, while heating it, check the movement by your finger, you will feel it starts melting. Also you will smell the grease is burning. teddy
@lauriee8133
@lauriee8133 7 лет назад
I don't have a soldering gun, so have been using a wood-burning tool (the tip looks the same as that on the soldering gun in your video). It was successful at getting the grease loosened up enough to make the cam gear turn, but it would seem the gunk that's holding it on the shaft is thicker and stickier. I'm trying again today and will do the back and forth turn/pull move that you show here, as well. What did you use to re-grease once you were done cleaning?
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 7 лет назад
I just want to make sure that you removed c-figure-crip that holding gear to the base. If so just take time to burn the dried up grease you will get gear moving smoothly soon. For cleaning up, remove remaining grease with q-tip, then use rubbing alcohol to remove grease further, the best tool you can have will be liquid wrench amzn.to/2r41USi you can find it on amazon, ebay, or your local hardware shop.

One of the best videos on turntable maintenance I've seen. Just about 99% of the mechanical problems are caused by dried out grease. I saw one video where the guy used WD-40, that is a big NO NO. WD-40 is not a lubricant, when it dries it will leave a sticky residue that seizes up moving parts. I used to repair VCRs and I could disassemble the deck mechanisms and put them back together no problem but I could not do that with a record changer.
@teddyhashee

Hi, James. Thank you for your compliment on my video. I believe turntable restoration is much easier than disassembling VCR. Hope some day you will try to restore record changer!

Hi everyone, I'm restoring a Realistic Clarinette 97 stereo with BSR changer. I'm using the 3-in-1 oil and hot soldering iron method to attempt to remove the seized cycling gear, but it's very difficult! I'm using a 25-watt Weller soldering iron, and I leave it on the cycling gear shaft for about 5-7 mins. I don't know if I need a higher wattage soldering iron or if I need to extend the time longer. Any advice will be helpful. Thanks
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 7 лет назад
When you are heating, use other hand to try turning the gear a little bit, very gently, keep doing this for a while, you will feel that gear's dried up grease starts melting, at the time you should smell that the grease is burning. Take a time.

I love your videos, I have a bsrMc donald 255sx belt driven turntable everything works but it won't automatically turn off. Any clues??
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 7 лет назад
When the tonearm reaches the end of the record, inside of the changer it will kick the small plate to start cam gear rotation, then when the rotation ends, the tonearm will set in the rest position and the same time power switch will be goes to off. In this mechanism, if you have a problem proper ending, some of the moving parts are not moving due to the dried out grease. If I were you, I would remove changer from console, and clean up the whole mechanism using rubbing alcohol and liquid wrench.

@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 7 лет назад
Seems like it is wooden case console stereo. I guess you need to remove back panel and see inside from its back. Usually changer has 2 or 3 legs and each of them has stopper, you need to flip it to vertically, and you need to remoce the cables from the amp. Not difficult to do so.

Teddy Hashee Thanks!

Remove screws from back or bottom panel and pull the stereo out slowly. Then lift deck up slightly. There should be two lockdown clips underneath the transit screws. flip them downwards. Then you disconnect the L/R phono jacks and the power cord from the motor. The latter two steps might be difficult; in this case, you may need to spray a little penetrating lubricant and use a small flat head screwdriver to pry off the power cord and disconnecting the jacks from underneath the record changer using a pull and slightly twisting motion.

Do NOT try to turn the platters when they are seized! You will ruin the axel alignment permanently and will have to keep aligning it, continuously! Use you soldering iron to remove both the platter and the spindle (if that, too is seized)!

Hi, your video helped me a lot in degreasing a bsr c141r turntable. Now, it's working, but the record refuses to drop from the central spindle. In fact, the central spindle does not fix, and keeps poping out of place. Any tips? thanks.
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 7 лет назад
some of the spindle need to be pushed until you hear the click sound. Some of the spindle need to be rotated in order to secure it. Seems like you need to find how to set spindle securely to the body. Check spindle and its holding parts from the bottom and see what need to be done in order to secure the spindle. When the record does not drop to the platter, check the alignment of the spindle and the parts that will push the moving parts of the spindle, this moving parts will hold the record in the air, then hiding into the spindle when it is pushed and eventually dropp the record.
@mabreu65
@mabreu65 7 лет назад
Hi Teddy, thanks for your help. I had a bsr once and placing the spindle was very easy. So I thought this one could be with the wrong model of spindle, and got a new one from V-M Audio, but it didn't worked too. Shouldn't it fit in something underneath? There is a metal plate that runs underneath the central hole. This metal place is attached to a spring that forces it upwards, and keeps popping the spindle out.

Hi Teddy, I have an issue with the speed control. I found the unit in hard rubbish and it seems that it's the reason the previous owner threw it out. I have opened it up and it seems like nothing has snapped off or anything. But the adjuster is no longer engaged. It's a little hard to explain but basically when you slide the adjuster it doesn't feel like you are moving anything (you are just moving the plastic adjuster and the little cog). The internal wiring diagram says the model is a BSR 11-153 & 11-157. Got any idea how to go about fixing it? Any help would be hugely appreciated!
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 7 лет назад
Follow the instruction, let me know if still speed control is not working. goo.gl/g13q7l Remove drive tire and clean it. Use alcohol to wipe out all grease. Also clean the edge of the tire. goo.gl/51ayUa Clean the all moving parts in the picture. If you need, remove that parts and clean it completely. goo.gl/627XZ2 Clean with alcohol and apply grease. Under the spring should be cleaned as well. If you need remove that parts and clean completely. goo.gl/sMRuoL Remove motor, clean the spindle and give oil too. goo.gl/jSLhMg Remove screws and remove parts that is holding bottom of the motor spindle. Clean spindle as well as coil and inside of the coil casing. Give motor oil to the bottom spindle holder.

Teddy Hashee that worked a treat. Thanks! Now the stylus quickly moves over the record and to the middle. Do you think that's a worn stylus that needs replacing. I'm so grateful for your assistance!
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 7 лет назад
After you cleaned the parts, you want to make sure to wipe these parts with rubbing alcohol. Otherwise, it will slip and speed will be not accurate. goo.gl/ZL98P7 Top of the spindle and edge of the drive tire. goo.gl/CYMAiF Inside edge of the platter that contact with drive tire. When your tone arm slides to the center as if it is skating on the ice, there will be 3 possibilities. 1) Your needle is worn out too much. You need to replace it to the new one. 2) Your turntable is not on the level position. You need to keep the platter absolute horizontal position. 3) The anti skating setting is not right. Your anti skating adjustment need to be adjusted. If your changer has anti skating adjustment like this, goo.gl/SfYWYw here is how to do it. 1)Keep your old worn out needle on the stylus.. 2)Check your platter is absolute level position. 3)Set old worn out LP record, do not use good record that you do not want to make any scratches. 4)Play it, then while tonearm is on the record, adjust anti skating until the tonearm stays in the same position. If your changer does not have anti skating adjustment, then you replace needle with the new one, then put turntable to the absolute flat position, then playthe record. It should be OK. Here is a good info about anti skating. musehelix.com/anti-skate-explained/

Great video, Teddy. Well organized, informative and it helped me quite a bit. I recently began work on a similar BSR changer in a Panasonic unit. The factory grease application was a bit out of hand on this one. Repeated application of degreasing agents did not free up the sticky subassembly components. I was forced to disassemble several subcomponents only to now learn reassembly is near impossible without further disassembly (c-clips hidden and tensioned with springs in inaccessible areas). I find myself in the predicament of rebuilding the subassembly. The big discovery is BSR (the Panasonic version is worse ) service manual are little help in describing reassembly. How deep have you been down the BSR changer hole and can you recommend a decent reference for how to reassemble the changer subassembly? Sorry for the long winded question. Really stumped on this one. - Dave

When My Tonearm On My Bsr Returns It Doesn't Auto Shut Off.
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 6 лет назад
It means you need to remove old dried up grease from shut off mechanism. The end of the cam cycle, it kicks small probably metal parts that connected to another metal plate, in this action the metal parts that is holding the power switch free, then it will shut down. When this happened, on/auto start knob will goes to the off position at the same time. All you need to do is remove platter, flip the changer, check the all metal and plastic parts that has grease, removed all of them to make all moving parts free. Then test it again. If it goes well, then you want to give a small portion of new grease to the moving parts. It will take around 2 hours of your time from start to complete the job. Hope you will be able to fix your turntable problem.
