I appreciate this unique perspective on Kindred Lore videos. Discussing the lore from the perspective of a hunter is really interesting. Even if this is all lore I already know, it's refreshing enough to have it from such a specific perspective.

The Salubri are a tragedy no matter how you look at them. The gentle healers are hunted and now exist in a cycle of perpetuation and self destruction, the noble warriors have lost themselves in their rage and pain within the Sabbat, and their antedeluvian Saulot... I think the point is made.
Tremere is bipolar his corrupt soul lost the fight with saulot he is back but really more like a fusion of the diablerist and saulot who has chosen self exile now without a leader maybe a similar issue will manifest all across clan tremere with foreign memories confusing their minds.
We are not all monsters. We Salubri offer mercy to our kin; in one way or another. As a childe of Samiel I can attest to this. My Grandsire's possible creation of our enemy, if true, most likely occured when he cast The Beast from himself and paved the Road of Golcanda.
I just started getting into VTM, and my Storyteller had me take the quiz to determine what clan I would most likely align with. Both myself and my fiance turned up Salubri. Watching something like this really puts me in the Salubri mindset, where I'm thinking about how I might convince a Human vampire hunter to avoid harming me or my husband. It makes me wonder just how many Hunter players are here and reading this, I'd be quite interested in hearing replies, whether you'd take a hardline against all vampires, judge each one based on situation, or have a soft spot for the kind hearted, regardless of being vampire or human.
The one clan I’ve play for well over a decade. Playing a Salubri is fantastic, as long as it’s not fifth edition, playing one now is such a pain in the ass. Not only am I one of the few morally sound vampires in WOD, but The Masquerade doesn’t mean a damn thing to me. I’m already hunted, might as well team up with The Kine and gain a bit of Holy Retribution
I've played a Salubri a few times in revised and V20, and now I'm playing on in V5 and it's actually been quite a good experience so far. I've started using them as SPCs as a ST. I do miss the healer/warrior/watchers distinctions, but v5 for me feels like a good system. Probably the best system they've developed so far.
@@brjannonlatunen4975 I can’t say I agree, but we all have our own taste. I much prefer to be able to truly play the role and experience the story, not just be a plot point. I just felt v5 really did an injustice to many of the clans and bloodlines, and made trying to play several far too much of an annoyance.
As a Salubri, I am glad there are more of us out there and that there are mortals who *see* us. It may seem foolish but I derive comfort knowing that truth and compassion still exist in the dark night of our world.
The way that kindred can feed without killing, even without lasting or even short-term damage, really hammers home how dark the world of darkness is. And it is sadly realistic, since amorality ( debatable for immorality ) provides a definite advantage on a group level over morality, as evidenced in real life.
Back in the day when I would run my game. I would change the origins of the Baali. I would make a mysterious Antidelluvian who survived the flood as the true founder of the clan. When Enoch fell this mysterious Antidelluvian personally blamed Caine for it and thought that Caine doesn't deserve to rule as God King of all Vampire kind. The progenitor wanted Caine's title and power but knew it would be suicide to challenge him given that he personally witnessed many second and third gen Vampires challenging his rule only to suffer a painful final death. This Antidelluvian would search for answers, and by doing so. The Vampire discovered the existence of Demons and the knowledge and power they share. Knowing of their existence. The Antidelluvian would make pacts with Demons in order to find out ways to one day usurp Caine. When Salout discovered his kin survived and knowing they have fallen from grace. A war between Salot and the Bali founder would wage in secret. Only to have the Baali founder have his victory by using pawns to trick Tremere into killing and diabolizing Salut to make the Tremere their unwilling pawns to wipe out the Salubri for the Baali founder.
The Baali don't really have a concrete origin. I am guessing they just left that open so people could speculate and make stuff up. I always liked the idea that they are from the Crone bloodline. Not Baba Yaga who just took that name but the original Crone from the book of nod who was said to have forced Caine to embrace her through a blood bond.
I see the Baali as a mistake some kindred tried to scare infernalists straight into the righteous path by revealing the elder evils of the world of darkness to them only to break their minds into a chaotic mess.
Your first videos where way too short to properly cover the topics. Those longer videos are way better and im very glad to see your new pursuit. Its a nice concept, to let a hunter to tell the lore of WoD, especialy through Joshua Graham. Good job, keep going!
I played a Salubri once she was a nurse before her embrace, and her goal was to travel to Tokyo, and potentially take up residence there. Through out her journey she never killed a single thing usually talking her way out of trouble or hiding until she could get away. At the end she became sort of a legend among the kin and by the time she made it to Tokyo she became a primogen for the clanless as well and kind of a chaplain to preach humanity and console those who needed it.
An truly awesome Canon Lore video regarding my long time favourite Clan, Clan Salubri! Your video and the research behind it is very well done and I think you nailed it perfectly. This is one of the few videos on the subject that actually speaks about Clan Salubri and does the Clan justice. They alone amongst all the vampiric Clans is a fading light in the darkness, a single candle still burning bright and representing Hope, Faith, Mercy and Redemption for all of vampire kind and a true source of goodness, positivity and enlightenment, even now on the brink of extinction. My favourite version for playing them would be the V20 and VDA20 editions that actually treats them fairly and with respect. Its been a blast to play one in the past but with V5 giving them such a bad treatment and unbalanced Bane I'm afraid their popularity might dwindle. For this reason I am extra happy for your wonderful Lore video, please keep it up, would love to see more Clans get this kind of treatment. All in all I would give it a 10/10! Here's to hoping for more juicy content in the future! :D
@@TerrilliumV Tzimisce are so cool and I want them to be my favorites but its so hard to imagine being one as they are so OCD and torture and self mutilation is basically mandatory.....they dress and act super class but underneath its all nipple clamps and genital piercings!

Bear in mind that the Salubri are, at the end of the day, still vampires. They seek to transcend their condition by achieving Golconda, and while their particular path of enlightenment focuses on embracing their humanity and its positive attributes, no creature in Hell or on Earth can compare to the wrath of a Salubri Healer that has been roused to anger or succumbed to their Beast. The Salubri Warriors are a testament to the depths of hatred that those original Salubri, revered as blessed Saints among the Damned, must have felt all those centuries ago, as their righteous fury still burns within those Childer and their Childer's Childer even into the Modern Nights. Woe betide any fool that would rouse such a creature to anger, and may God have mercy on anyone so unfortunate as to be in path of a hungry Salubri on the warpath. But above all, fear what will come about when a Salubri has made peace with themselves and achieved Golconda, because just as they need no longer grapple with their Beast, so to are they bereft of the need to cling to their humanity, and what will they see of us humans then? Will we be lambs, lost and in need of shepherds? Livestock and cattle, to be fattened up and slaughtered mercifully and efficiently? Ants to be stepped on or stepped over at a whim? Or will we be naught but grass to be fed to something else? The Cappadocians, even in death, sought to devour God and assume his role, so one can only shudder to think what would come of a Cainite Buddha.

After the division of his Clan, Cappadocius expressed his desire for the remaining Cappadocians to explore the mysteries of death in pursuit of Diablerizing the Abrahamic God, and he specifically chose those who would be loyal to him and this cause. In fact, the last surviving member of Clan Cappadocian proper, i.e. those who were not part of bloodlines like the Harbingers of Skulls, the Samedi, and the Giovanni, was noted to have such strong faith that she is one of very few vampires to have ascended to Heaven upon Final Death, as her body was consumed in holy light and her vitae burned her would-be Giovanni Diablerist like holy water.
@@TerrilliumV and the scary part? Saulot was the 1st to acend. What is to say saulot isnt dead via diablerie? Rather,he exists in the inmaterial realm. What is to say,saulot has been guiding his childer,in his vengeance upon all vampire kind who forsook the healers. And what is to say,the salubri do not have this potential as well,to acend in similar form given time. A cainite buddha is terrifying sure but think about something else. Remember that its said 7 salubri exist? The salubri are the few who know and actively pursue golconda. What if the salubri exist in bigger numbers. But those 7,are merely a facade for the daywalkers.
@@lolbots686 In my Chronicle, one of the players has a Thin-Blood Salubri. The player and I worked together in character creation. The player doesn't know the number of Salubri, but if he's a 14th Gen Salubri, there must be quite a few. His ambition is to find more members of his Clan with the hopes of being allowed to Diablerize one of the Salubri Clan members. Unbeknownst to the player, I have his sire watching him from afar, awaiting the perfect time to present themself for Diablerie. That will make the player a 13th Generation Salubri. 🙂
if there are actually only 7 left, then there would be no embraces and it wouldnt be mentioned in the books. but it is. and if you want to defeat your enemies, you need numbers. so why would the salubri limit themselves? this is subterfuge. a salubri would find the best human he could, then teach them everything they'd need to know and keep building an army. But i do believe that saulot created the baali, probably by accident but it could have been as a test to the salubri.
I agree there's not 7 but probably less then a few hundred. It's very open ended of saulot is evil. I like to believe he is and the remaining salubri have caught on to his games.
Up until V20, this was only a rumor, and clearly not correct. Revised reintroduced the Salubri Antitribu as a "new" but upcoming branch within the Sabbat. V20 kind of fucked up much of the Salubri lore and made the religious "7" extremists that everyone hated.
- Damn, Tremere are so awesome, but why did they have to do Salubri so dirty like that! So many other clans that deserved to have their big baddie diablorized and their clans name dragged through the dirt but they had to do it to the Jesus Vampires! That also means that pretty much all my favorite clans are contradictory and hate each other, Salubri, Tremere, Tzimisce, Baali....I'll never see them chilling at a party just living their best unlives :(
The Tremere were fledglings and weak*, they had no choice but to target the weakest clan ( both martially and reputationally ). Not that i doubt they would have targeted Saulot regardless, he's the most human/stable psychologically, which means greater control over yourself and your clan. *Relative to their power as mages
They did the Salubri dirty because of Saulot :) They became nothing more than old baggage to be cast off as failures by an antediluvian who'd moved on to something new.
From my experience nobody likes to play as Salubri because of Banes , i once emailed a suggestion to a friend of mine to change 2 things about their Bane their eye only bleeds of overuse of disciplines and drinking too much blood from a Salubri from a kindred can cause damage...boy that would open that clan up quite a bit
That would be nice. It's a hard bane to get around I agree. I think in V5 theyve changed it to just their blood is really tasty to vampires and you have the third eye.

Ash to ash. House tremere thought they destroyed clan salubri. They were wrong. So very,very wrong. The children of saulot rise,to finish what was started centuries ago. Vengeance.
Did you mentioned that all Salubri are diablerists? Maybe I lost it in the video, sorry. Their aura has the marks of it and their generation from the start is 8 or 7 if I remember correctly. It is said that is a result of diablerie which every Salubri member performs on their sire which leads to having always seven members in the clan (also this explains why their vitae is so delicious). I may be wrong, because this clan always was unpopular to play because you will be betraied after other kindreds learn the truth about you.

The Seven represent a branch of the Healer caste that, at least according to the V20 books, even other Healers consider weird and extreme. There is no consistent 7 Kindred among them, but rather each sires and prepares a Childe to succeed them. A member of the Seven may persist for around a century, seeking Golconda. When they judge their Childe ready, they willingly allow themselves to be Diablerized. Keeping the Childe's Vitae strong, and granting them power. It is said that one who has achieved Golconda cannot have their soul devoured. As such, the Seven see this cycle of genesis and cannibalism as a form of spiritual release. According to V20: Lore of the Bloodlines, the Seven sometimes "misjudge" progeny, or else lose track of them. As it turns out, not everyone Embraced into this cycle of cannibalism is as enthused about it as the Seven would like, and so run away. Indeed, that book presents a 6 pt Flaw, called "The Eighth", to represent a Salubri PC who was prepared to take their sire's place in the Seven, only to run. Now hunted, not only by the Tremere (and by anyone seeking their 9th generation blood), but by the Seven and their allies.
@@hassanhassan-os5oq low or high, I forgot how it counts in VtM. Simply saying your usual kindred belongs to 13th generation, while salubri clan members belongs to 8th or 7th generation, which is more powerful
Ah the Salubri. Interesting lot, well, maybe a Sau-lot. Honestly not the ones to go to if you're looking for a fun time, even before the whole Tremere thing the Salubri had kind of a habit of being pretty stuffy and full of themselves, after it, well... kind of put a bit of a persecution complex in em' too, not that I blame them for any of that. Maybe it's just me being a little too bestial for such high minded concepts, but personal advice when dealing with Salubri? Do right by em', help em' out if they need somethin', but always have an excuse to dip when they start getting on that soap box each one of em' seems carry around.
So to play a salubri do you have to have that third eye ive never played an actual game with anyone but id want my character to look physically normal. Also i know most people dont like you playing multiple clans but i think playing a salubri who after his kin being hunted and alone like s human took on toreador traits of giving into whatever indulgence and person to fill thst lonliness snd plsy like a redemption path. Idk
I imagine this clan is one of the most regularly house/golden ruled to operate differently. What do you guys change about them? I prefer the idea of the third eye being ethereal/spiritual rather than simply physical. Only seen by certain special gift level vision. The literal third eye was always too 'on the nose' for me. 😉
I like the physical third eye honestly. It being physical is nice gameplay wise since you need to actively hide it. Which is also very fitting for a clan that is in constant hiding just in general. Also being visibly unique is a cool feature and i enjoy that about the ones that do. I like just looking at a vampire and knowing instantly what clan they are not so much lore wise but in art n stuff lmao.
@TerrilliumV Don't forget that with a spiritual eye, they would still very much need to hide it somehow from the main groups they want to hide from in the first place. Tremere among others and the odd elder will typically have strong use in Auspex. Even simple use of 'sense the unseen' while looking at them would reveal the truth to some extent. Added to this, the v5 companion Salubri have 3 different Banes which seems rather extreme and needed toned down a little. I might have the third eye become physical in my games in extreme circumstances like with one who is close to golconda, or a surviving elder from the original purge/genocide. The physical 3rd eye as standard was just too cheesey and goofy for me. Having more mystery around clan identity allows more mystery and intrigue, which is a huge core of the game, so feels more on brand, as Victor Temple would say.
I think V20 was pretty terrible with the Salubri. Traditionally, the developed the 3rd eye earlier than any other Kindred that developed their Discipline(s), and had a moral objection towards drinking blood from some sources. The level of mastery of their Obeah/Valeran varied slightly, but anyone that developed those Disciplines would likewise develope the "dragon tear" at some point (3 or 4 dots, I believe). Some random Tremere and Caitiff did as well.
