Lisbon is known as the 7 hill city and actually people make that an obstacule to have more bike riding on it. The time trial on the starts on one edge of the city and goes through the coast to end next to a beach so it's pretty flat and wind might be a factor. I'm gonna be there on that day, hope you guys are too and we can eat a pastel de Belém!

I was going to provide the very same explanation. I will just add that Lisbon has so many wavy, labyrinth like roads with cobbles that are somewhere in between Roubaix and Flandres. They could have made an amazing stage.

Stage 2 is going to be interesting. Leaving Cascais going north can be super windy at times. I rode my bike there 2 years ago and it was a block headwind more or less for a long time.

The middle part of Stage 1 goes through my local roads. I'm so excited to see the WT peloton doing some of the roads I use for training! Also, the beggining of that stage has some notoriously dangerous points (road condition mainly), let's hope nobody goes down in the first kms of the Vuelta.

If it is going to be Vingegaard vs Roglic I wonder what advantage Jumbo will have given they must have so much info about Roglic strengths and weaknesses. They might know details that the public doesnt. Also, I think Skjelmose will be competitive against Roglic in the small steep finishes. We saw him in Fleche this year getting second behind Pogi after a bad position. But then again, I might be biased since I'm Danish.

Portuguese here: S1) ITT is flat along side the river/sea, so expect wind, on the right side of the riders in normal scenario. S2) Loads of wind in the first 40KM! could be issues due to seasonal forest fire in the last KMs S3) If the arrival is the same as th local volta, it is a fast narrow uphill drag with Cobblestone.
@JCNvid

stage 3 is also forest fire prone.

Yep - keeping kits / colours similar is right. For too long cycling teams have been unable to build a brand due to the way the sponsorship / team name thing has worked. Its was nearly impossible to build fan loyalty like in Football (soccer) for instance. Wolfpack kind of cuts through this - remains to be seen if it does if the team changes name / sponsor from Quickstep and with that the brand colours etc.

58:29 "Yellow B". In my area there is a ~196 mile running relay race from Mt. Hood to the Oregon coast. It began in the early 80's, and in the early years a team of elite runners named Killer B's were frequent winners. Then a new elite team named Black Flag upset them.

As a Portuguese fan, all 3 stages, even the TT, are a bit underwhelming. They go right besides Serra da Estrela where they could have used the Torre climb, one of the mythical Portuguese climbs of the Grandíssima. I guess the organizers wanted to have a steady start with stages for sprinters here, because they chose not to host them in Spain 😅

@rdklkje13 7 месяцев назад
@@rossmurray6849 Oh, I certainly didn’t intend to be harsh. For me these are simply the most obvious, precisely cos a coastal (capital) city isn’t even an option in such countries. But especially cos he lives in (very close to?) one of these capital cities and sees those Andorran mountains every time he looks out the window 🙃 But I guess that’s far away while in Brisbane, as is Canberra by the sounds of it 😂
@rossmurray6849
@rossmurray6849 7 месяцев назад
@@rdklkje13 I'm just having a bit of fun. Australians love teasing each other whenever they detect a silly mistake. But I take your point. It's hard to tell whether overlooking the country he was raised in, or the one where he now lives, is the more egregious. FYI about why Australia's capital city is Canberra. Up until 1901 the six states of Australia were independently governed colonies. When they voted to join in a federation the two largest cities, Sydney and Melbourne, were both unwilling to agree to the other one becoming the capital city. So a new city was built in between them to become the capital. It's closer to Sydney, about 300km to the south-west from it.

I'd guess the Vuelta isn't going to the Pyrenees because France has the Olympics and to do many of the climbs you'd have to enter France that's a no no because of the policing cost. Also with the Basque Country having the start of the TdF last year and being quite heavily in last year's Vuelta (as well as Catalonia having the start, and being a catastrophe) they are staying away from it this time.

@hisdadjames4876
@hisdadjames4876 7 месяцев назад
I think both…. The more variable the gradient (eg incl descents!) the harder it is, because there must be sections way above average gradient. The more constant the gradient (with wide roads and extended draughting possibilities) the easier. Always compared to the climb’s defined length and average gradient, of course.
@MDP1702

Usually they are harder because there are steeper sections than is would seem and semi-flat/descent sections.
