I think the original was absolute train chugging. This one chugs too but they are being a little more playful here and messing with it a bit. I think the original has that real chug feel made with a vst probably running under the whole performance. I don't think this one has that. The original performance chugs like crazy but there's also a chug loop under the whole thing maybe put on in post, maybe played to. Dunno. You can hear it in the original when the band finally pulls up to the station and chugs down. The vst loop thing chugs on a little.
So may things make this great. Woody’s solo, Theo’s delicate use of the hi hat, the subtle compression on Cory’s guitar and the pocket. Great live session. I hope there are more that came out this. I noticed Theo’s 335 in the room so may be a clue.
looks like he was totally in control of the rhythm and opted to start on the half beat of 4th in his first measure of his solo! seemed like he wanted to throw everyone a curveball
Vulfpeck uses a huge watermark in the dead-center of the video and literally nobody gives a damn. That's how you know people care about the music so much they don't care if there's a watermark in the worst possible place ever. Not sure if there's a lesson to taken from here, but I don't care either. The funk has taken over my body completely.
Good call recording this Vulf style and releasing it under this channel. Yet another reason Stratton is one of my favorite bandleaders/managers. Also one of the best live vulf recordings I've heard. And do I sense a little Vulf Compression in there?! I believe I do.

Neva clicked so damn fast blah blah blah wow it's do minimalist and low volume. Good to know Cory remains in fourth position. Who's aye for them studio collab w/Knower?!
This might be bizarre... but I would be down for hearing some Vulfpeck on the American Cowboy Bebop remake if Yoko Kanno isn't composing (also... making a big asssumption that the remake won't be trash).
It’s not directly comparable, but listening to you play these lovely thick chords on the piano, makes me long for you guys to record a cover of ‘Don’t let it get you down’ by the Crusaders. I think you’d nail it. Please?
Nice understated boogie woogie phrasing, plus that one little piano glitch with the "arrghh" groan, which actually wasn't (a glitch I mean) just added something. Perfect little dash of sax. Just so much fun. Think you could do something extended with this thematically (maybe incorporate our girl Bethanni on trombone?) Thanks again for such a cool groove.
