Short and sweet, love it buddy! About to replace mine on a '67 so your setup looks a little different than mine. Taking the seats out probably makes it easier to work on right? At least one seat
The pin will NOT go back in for me. The handle was missing, got an original replacement but yeah it won't line up with the bracket for anything. I'd probably have to file down the tab on the tunnel since that seems to be the issue, it sticks out too far for the gear piece that sit into it. I dug up a bolt that's a tiny bit less thick and I can get it to go in, but I need a longer one so I can put a lock nut on the end of it, so it can't fall out.
That’s really odd. There are a few things that could be causing the issue. Someone could have painted that area, and the pin won’t go in because of it. The bracket could be bent. Last, are you sure they sent you the right year for that chassis? I’ve also seen people put different year body’s on older or new pans. That’s always fun.
@@VitosFix It's a 64. I bought the handle from a guy when at his house (he has sheds full of parts). Being an earlier car, he said it takes that one due to the handle being very long. It's about 1/32" off, if that. It's mostly likely the original pan/chassis and body. It has 64 doors/windows, link pin front end, swing axle transmission, etc. The engine is from a 65 based on it's serial but the rest seems pretty original, aside from being baja converted. The handle is in fact very long but it doesn't interfere with the shifter at all, so it must be correct. 64 didn't have the heater control handles by the parking brake, it's on a little spin handle further forward, and that's what it has, so it's obviously a 64 chassis. Maybe it's an older handle and they changed the measurements by 1mm at some point or something? It's not a big deal, that big bolt seems like it should work fine, I just need one 1/2" longer and a lock nut so it can't wiggle loose.
@@VitosFix I think the gear plate is probably wrong. I just saw a picture of two styles, one with a deeper slot for the tooth on the tunnel and one with a shallow one. I guess the guy grabbed the wrong plate. Not too big of a deal, I can just grind/file out the plate a bit to make it fit properly.
Is this a new cable? Old? I replaced my cable because I installed a longer axle. There are a couple different part numbers out there that are slightly different lengths. So if you have a new one, that’s the wrong part number, it could be too long.
Had a similar problem, but with my clutch cable. I have a '72 registered Ghia which turns out to be a '71 and the clutch cable is 1" shorter. Didn't know this until I fitted the long one. 😮. Fortunately as with a lot of other parts on the car it is easy to remove!
