We appreciate you leaving the mistake in brother Slade. It keeps us from making the same mistake Wish everyone on this platform would do that. It would save us all a lot of headaches. That was another fantastic video my friend.

Looks good with the new gear. This is a second request for the rebuild video for a 68 speedo with internal fuel gauge.

I’ll be doing the 68 speedometer soon. I just didn’t want to do two different ones back to back.

The new video equipment looks good. Tip; I use random size tubing and tube fittings, sharpen the ends and use as a punch for making small round things and holes for gaskets. Thanks for the vid.✌️

Just a thought on lining up the bright light tube (and keeping it true) during reassembly: Use a chopstick as a guide.

Hey! That is really a good idea. Thank you so much. It’s a little tricky getting that together.

Nice! I might do this over the winter. I've seen some speedos with an yellow colored turn signal indicator. Any idea what it's supposed to be officially?
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 11 месяцев назад
It’s supposed to be green, but honestly, I would put what color you like.

I would really appreciate it if you could do a video on speedometer removal. I have a 1973 super beetle and I’ve looked in several repair books and watched numerous videos and nobody does a video on removal procedures. Thank You for your time

Slade, did you double up the “gels” or are they thick enough to show the color and not the light bulb?
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 11 месяцев назад
No, there’s just one layer, they are a little thick. But I put the light behind it, and they seem to be OK.

The 67 speedo is different than the later ones. The later ones have more plastic parts.
@SladesVWBeetle

Thanks my friend! I wasn’t aware of that. But somehow I’m not surprised by it either.
@4Rhouse

Well done! what kind of grease do you use? some greases will cause some plastics to swell.
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 11 месяцев назад
I use silicone grease, which can be considered the perfect plastic lubricant.

Going to do this on my 69 Dune buggy speedo, but had a thought. a hole punch or 3 hole sheet paper punch would probably make a faster and nicer lens for your red & green lenses.

I did a body off resto of my '62 sedan during the pandemic but the Speedo runs about 10 MPH slow, which I find odd, since it's mechanical. anyway, thanks to this video, I'll rebuild it and see what happens. 😊
@4Rhouse
@4Rhouse 11 месяцев назад
Addendum; took it apart and the milage is mechanical but the speed is not. There is a round magnet that spins inside a steel sleeve that is mounted on one end of a small spindle with the speed indicating needle on the other end, so the only reason I can think of for the inaccuracy is the spindle bearing is dragging. (or the magnet has weakened?) I'll put a drop of oil on the bearing and see what happens! on my my '62, the little color pieces were glued to the back of the face plate so replacing them will be easy!

@@enriquechavez6546 I don't have a video on a broken one. But if I did, I would definitely start repairing the little gears inside.
