Yup agree 100% i have a vw golfmk2 im one of the biggest fans in fact,and i have a volvo and its broken down,but the golf starts after sitting for a year in one try.
Großartig :) Hab meinen (heliosblauen 1.6er PN von 1989) seit April '14 und er hat mich bis jetzt nie enttäuscht. Wahrscheinlich eins der zuverlässigsten Autos, die VW je gebaut hat. Schick, schnell genug, macht total Spaß zu fahren und er läuft und läuft. Und man kann noch was selber machen, wenn was kaputt sein sollte. Aus solchen Gründen sage ich immer: ich muss kein altes Auto fahren - ich will ;)
Mein 1990 CL (den ich 1992 von meinem Vater übernommen habe) mit 4 Türen läuft und läuft..... Alles original und nie Probleme. Ein Auto das ich nicht hergeben würde :))
I drive such a Golf since 1991....until now I've driven 410.000 miles...,first engine,first gearbox,first drive shafts....6 timing belts,2 water pumps, 2 clutches,12 shocks,2 radiators...the usual maintenance....nothing extraordinary.....still going strong- driving it every day...come snow,hell or high water......great car .
I'm the owner of a 1990 mk2 vw golf gtd madison with almost 600000km. it belongs to my family for almost 21 years and it's my daily car for 1 year.. what a strong car! regards from portugal
Simply a great car - I drive mine since 1991 - and it had and still has to do work a lot, meanwhile there are 302.000 miles on the dash - first engine -first gearbox and no oil refill between oil changes . Recipe ? Let it idle for 3 -5 min in very cold weather,swift gear change as long as motor is cold, good oil- always with filter every 7500 miles and until now 6 timing belts,although the motor would not be damaged if the timing belt teared - enough space between valves and pistons... Wäre die Ersatzteilversorgung noch länger gewährleistet würden wir noch in 40 Jahren die 2er auf en Straßen sehen! Ein Dank an VW das ihr uns zwingt neue Kisten zu kaufen!
30% of all cars in Bosnia are Golf mk2. I own a 1987 special TD, daily driver close to a million km mark, all original parts under the hood. it's fantastic.
my odometer stoped working shortly after this comment but i guess i travelled no less than 60 000km with my golf from the time i commented until your reply :D nothing else broke in the meantime it still going very strong
Nice video! sadly enough my old 1991 Golf is gone. had an 1600cc carb engine in it. Well taken care off. had 292395 KM on it when it needed to go. Still miss the car! :(
andre ferre Another idiot rammed into the car and made it unable to drive. Engine was still good. Car is gone... Engine is still standing here waiting for a car to be put in. Im now busy with my Mk2 16v
andre ferre Depends on the amount of rust and the engines health. I don't actually know if its more reliable than a 190D or a 200D totally depends on how you drive with it. If you just take good care of the car and engine you can easily drive over 350'000KM.

My dad had a 1988 vw golf 2 1.6 diesel GL and he make with this car 700000 (7 thousands) of kilometers with no big problems. Great car. Sorry for my bad english.
volkswagen just makes people happy ! my dad owns a 1989 mk2 syncro and i learned to drive in this mk2 :) i now own exact the same mk2 but without the syncro version ! both 3 doors 1800cc :)
My father has a mk2 1985 - 1986 1043cc carbulator with mechanic steering wheel and we have it like a new one! I am 16 years old and I learned to drive on this car from 8 years old! My uncle owns a GTI 1,800cc with 3doors and DOHC ENGINE. This engine is very very strong if you know... When I am 18 years old he will give it to me for present!
Glad to hear it... Where are you come from?How old are you? The front glass broke from a lignite peace and I am so nervous(nervy)...Second time this happens. My dad works at electricity production and there the trucks that carry lignite are speeding and some peaces of lignite are dropped out of the truck so... SHIT ! ! !
Mk1&Mk2 Golf gti`s were the finest,most beautiful Golfs.The day will eventually arrive when an `original`gti will cost more than the latest `computer wealth`n`safety boy`s`models & only those aficionados who really understand driving to the absolute limits`will know why.

it is unbreakable but what joy do u get from riding when u can't hear the person next to u and it takes a lot of muscle just to turn the wheel!! my grandma has it and i used it quite often but i prefer modern cars
i kept mine till it fell in pieces 20 yrs of loyalty the engine still lives i didn't let it shred in cash for clunglers program but kept all good parts and sold them to the "Liebhaber" i made less money but I found it better this way cash for clungers goes against my pricipals
My first car was a Mk2 89` Manhattan, and it was amazing..good memories yes.:) Since then i`ve been loyal to vw, golfs in particular, and now i`ve an also fantastic Mk4. to @KGWOLF77. In Latvia the is still a large number of Mk2 ;)
Bestes Auto sowohl Diesel als Benziner unzerstörbar bei minimaler Pflege. Karosse unschlagbar was Haltbarkeit und Rostschutz abgeht. Mein 5er Golf hat quasi Null Versiegelung und fängt leider an überall zu gammeln. Dagegen der Golf 2 von 1990 nirgends am gammeln überall fett versiegelt. Aus der Heckklappe läuft immer noch Wachs raus.
O jā,es ar savējo gribētu savest kārtībā!Iet kā bitīte,bet sapuvis kā ābols!Bet nu tagad youtubā skatos video 2 vēl trakāki golfi kurus restaurē,vienam vispār visa aizmugure nogrizta un jauna iemetināta,otram vēl tā,bet nu!Mašīna laba,palaist vēja žēl!Ņemot vērā,ka tā mašīna tika iegādāta viena gada,mēnesī,datumā ar manu dzimšanu un vēl joprojām ir pie manis,tad palaist vēja tiešām žēl!
Tad jau gan vēl kādi 3 gadi līdz piekļuvei pie statusa?Man jau nākošgad. Bet nu jācenšās saglabāt cik vien iespējams,pārdod jau neparko netaisos,bet nu ar gadiem golfi maksās vairāk nekā,ka viņi bija jauni! Un nu ir kas runā sliktu par volkswagenu,bet manā skatījumā labāka auto par vw nav,man bija 2 volvo,tagad tika nopirkts vw touran,praktiski golfs tikai nedaudz lielāks,un iet vismaz pagaidām tik pat labi kā man golfs. Kā arī es golfu kautkad ja nemaldos septembra beigās pamēģināju pielaist,un ar pirmo pieleca. A mans bijušais volvo vienā vakarā gāja un otrā rītā vairs jau pat neleca,man tas volvo arī patika,bet uzvar tas labākais,tāpēc arī palikšu pie volkswagen,jo nekā labāka jau nav!
