VW Golf Broke Shift Cable Repair Bushing Fix, Quick Cheap

Thank you !!! My daughter is in DC and had to have her 2012 Passat towed to a repair shop. They were going to charge 1000.00 for the full part and 800 for labor. I started to do some research online for the single part instead of having to buy the whole shifter and came across this video. I ordered the part on AMAZON and had it shipped to repair shop. It was 29.99 for the part. They did charge me 350.00 to put it in but I was stuck as we live in Florida and had to rely on them. Still better than 1800.00!! Thank you so much for making this video.

Hey there! I'm so glad I came across the video. VW Jetta 2015 here - EXACT same issue. The VW dealership here in Daytona Beach wanted to charge me $1500 to replace the entire cable! I attempted to explain that it's a little rubber piece that goes in the cable. "No Sir - it's part of the entire cable." I went to bushingfix.com, ordered the part, it arrived 2 days later and I'm back up and running. $24.95 vs. $1500 .... no brainer. Have a great one!

Thank you so much for this video. Helped me fix my 2012 Golf. I used a dremel tool to file down the flange on the bushing to make it easier to push into the cable. It’s still very tight so it’s not an issue.

So my shifter is feeling really nasty. VW is trying to charge me $2,267.19 for the gear shift mechanism and also to buy the cable. That's without tax and labor. I had a look at that bushing, and sure enough, that bushing is like a hoola hoop! Already ordered! Most likely this is my fix. Thank you so much! You're a cool DAD!

Thank you so much! I was stressing out for 2 days trying to figure out why I couldn't take the key out of the ignition and the car seemed like it was in "Park" but it kept saying "PUT IN PARK"....i was going nuts! I looked in the engine bay and BAM! There is the issue. Thank you!!!

Perfect fit on my jetta 2012, i recommend removing battery and battery base its alot easier.

Just used this to fix the 2012 Passat! You saved my bacon on this! I would HIGHLY recommend undoing the 10mm bolt on that model though, reaching in and round nearly got me a few times, and dropping this piece is a NIGHTMARE. I would also recommend starting the insertion at the joint of 2 pieces where there is an opening, it makes it a bit less complicated to get it all the way through the eye.

I literally had the same problem I have a 2013 Jetta I’ve had it for a week and one day my dad was going to the store and my gear shift was stuck exactly the same way as your golf I was so scared my car was broken 😭 luckily I have a mechanic neighbor he found the same problem and I just put the new piece in today
