@@ags911 In most of the countries it is solved in some way, also new Diesels with 2 catalytic converters and DPF are able to produce less CO2 than petrol cars. Diesel is safe for atleast 5-10 more years.
If someone told me that Skoda's would ever be as high as 32 grand + in the future back in the 90's, I would have laughed my ass off and called them a fool.
I was about to say that hahaha! I reviewed the 520i Sport I loved it but 520d was way better suited with the Diesel engine. I could not review the 520d for some reason but if I were to buy a 5-Series I would possibly take the 520d because our traffic here is so bad -_-
Yeah 200hp petrol vs 200hp diesel, but with 300kg cargo like in real life (people, bags) That is why diesels always kill me on a road trip. Turbo torque wins
Probably the best race I've seen in a while. The guests were perfect for this, sounds like some really cool and funny lads. Bring them back another time
Skoda looks the best, but I would say that.. I have the hatch back petrol vRS in that colour. Shame about the noise or lack of it but I love the thing.
What a beauty to that Skoda 🔥🔥 The best looking car than that VW or BMW . And it did well in the race even if it was the heaviest of them. Do more of Skoda drag races. Love watching them
Skoda’s just don’t try too hard, it’s Vanilla ice-cream. Everybody will appreciate it. It’s just that amongst older people, the old image of Skoda is still imprinted in their minds, that’s why not so many people buy them. That and the fact it’s a very unfamiliar brand.
@@magnustan841 what do you mean by not many people buy them? Octavia was best seller in czech republic, poland, austria, croatia and bosnia... Fabia is best seller in Slovakia and Octavia is in top 10 best selling cars in europe in 2020.
@@dougiemiller5030 Not only that, but the Octavia is much more practical, is comfy, spacious and a perfect daily driver; and finally, it's also good looking!
@@DavidGarcia29497 imo the best looking one from the trio. THough I gotta say, I dont like people calling it a hothatch... I mean its a pretty large car, how is it a hatchback? I wish skoda would make the scala in RS, so it would move into this territory of hothatches instead of the octavia.
@@Smzxe They are all new cars that are on the test. It’s irritating how he wins 99.9% of races then acts all cocky and smug after. In other words the races are fixed for Matt to win.
It'll be nice to see some of the DERV and petrol car equivalents from manufacturers go head to head. For example; BMW 340d versus 340i. BMW X6M50d versus X6M50i.
@@blackcashew3278 dude... I know. But then the comment above me should say "well done Jozef Kabaň" Without Volkswagen, the Octavia (or any Skoda for that matter) would've never seen the sunlight. They fund the Skoda design team, they make the final decisions etc. That's why congratulating Skoda for designing a good looking car is pointless. It's either the man himself who drew it on a paper, or VW who manufactured the car itself.
Ordered my new Golf GTD through CarWow last week, I even negotiated further discounting. £31,500 with met paint, pan roof, rear camera and 19 inch wheels. Oct delivery, Which has now been delayed to possible end of December.
I really love BMW, I actually own two of them, E87 (first gen 1 series) and F30 (3 series), but I am really upset how BMW ruined the 1 series. They were such good cars in E and F series, but this new one is just bullshit.
Would love to see some tuned diesels. Darkside Developments with their tuned A6, and DieselpumpUK with a number of high hp om606 cars. Of course my favorites are big American diesel pickups.
@@gishg3833 would it? I had the 123d coupe and then a 7 gtd. bimmer was certainly a bit faster and noticeably faster above 85-90. However this new 8 has 200bhp and if the new r is anything to go by maybe closer to 210 or 215. I was a bit shocked at this gap in this race. VW playing down true figures methinks. Id fancy my bigger heavy b9 a4 40tdi to give that new 1 er a close race 🤣 so poor was its showing here.
10 less HP and higher drivetrain loss from the gearbox. It's expected. It's similar to when the auto Focus ST was dragged here against DCTs, though that box has horrendous gearing on top of being a torque converter.
It's not actually marketed as a hot hatch in the same way the GTD or vRS are. It's just the most powerful diesel 1 series but I doubt they've done anything else to it.
I think it'd be worth mentioning the brand of tyres when you do the break test as a standard thing. It's been mentioned several times that the Michelin outperform the Pirelli
Sometimes I forget how crazy a sentence like "Here comes the Škoda, it's gonna get past the BMW!" would have sounded a couple of years ago. It's mad what they've managed to achieve since being purchased by VW.
Matt been watching Carwow for years and your reviews are golden. I have a Golf r mark 7 and reckon rolling race with 240hp Golf Gti- will be the closest and most surprising drag you could do. Please rolling race this with the leon cupra 290 for comparison 👍
Ha ha. I was one of these minus the gangster with the previous gen gtd but a manual. This will probably be the last golf gtd and i think will be far rarer than the 7 which was literally everywhere.
Not really, on your everyday sort of cars the other brands have been faster. But they where never as fast as bmw around corners (just thinking of bmw of before e90 and older.)
I've got a list of diesel drag races you should do. 1. Mercedes S350d vs BMW 730d Vs Audi A8 50 TDI 2. Mercedes E220d vs BMW 520d vs Audi A6 40 TDI 3. Mercedes C300d vs BMW 320d vs Audi A4 40 TDI 4. Mercedes A180d vs BMW 116d vs Audi A3 35 TDI 5 VW Golf 1.6 TDI DSG vs Vauxhall Astra 1.5 CTDI auto vs Ford Focus 1.5 ecoblue 120 poweshift 6.VW polo TDI vs Vauxhall corsa 1.3 ctdi auto vs Ford Fiesta ecoblue.
I'm actually surprised... I know what a delight the 320d can be if you pull away from a traffic light and you need to get ahead so that you can switch to the lane you actually need to be in, while being super economical in daily driving. Big-up to the Golf and it's Skoda cousin, even beating the beemer in the economy stakes (today). I was not expecting that.
i really want to see a drag race between something with 2.0 modern car and something with a v8 from previous generations(mercedes a45 vs bmw m5 e60 or mercedes w221 s63 or a mustang 5.0 etc.The scope of this is to see if olders cars are still in form,or v8 is something from the past already. Also it will be a cool ideea to compare something small and fast with something comfy, powerful and heavy (mercedes a45 vs a rolls-royce wraith or ghost).
BMW M550d against all the other stock diesel engines of the world 😁😁 I think we are underestimating some actual diesel engine, even Mercedes is working really well in the performance diesel engine world! Really curious to see other diesel's drag races ❤
I know times have moved on but I still find it amusing that 20 years ago, something like an EP3 civic Typre R hot hatch had 200bhp....whereas now a Golf 2.0TDI has the same power.
Nice video and very pleasing to see from an owner of a GTD in Kings Red. However, how stock was the GTD that VW supplied? The reason I ask is that according to the current brochure, you cannot (and never have been able to) get a GTD in Lime Yellow in the UK!
